I find the defensiveness of the GH5 crowd very entertaining. Specially since some of the loudest used to rip pretty hard om the gh4 but are now willing to die defending the exact same issues. And I mean this in a very positive way. Its good to be passionate (Edit: I feel I must add that I have never spoken badly nor positive about the gh5. Otherwise I risk getting caught in the crossfire )

Not all sensors can handle all numbers of FPS. There has been plenty of cameras out there that didn't get the sales they could have due to 30p only. And it isn't just a firmware thing, then they would have done it. Its a limitation of the sensor. A good example of testing this for myself was the Panasonic CM1. Best camera phone to date imo. It shots 30p only. But was API2 capable. So easy fix then... just download Cinema 4K or Open Camera and force it to 24 or 25p? No, not that easy. When forcing the camera to do 25, 24, 23,9, 26, 10, what ever. Anything but 30p resulted in..... 60p! So I discovered slowmotion, yey for me! But I also learned first hand that the reason that Canon for example has 30p only in what could be a legendary camera, the GX1ii, isn't because they aren't aware that 25p is the world standard. Theres probably more to it than that. But we all know this already. Name one camera that hasn't been ripped to shreds on forums by people convinced they know more from a glance at a spec cheat than the engineers, strategists, economists, etc, etc that spend billions making the stuff.

The mount could have been a bit sturdier imo. And the ND wheel could have been a stepped switch instead. Startup wasnt super fast if I remember correctly. -

To be fare, like all cameras including the fs5 there are some negatives that one should identify to be able to work around them. But when you do you get a hell of bang for the buck. -
The ricoh does. Nothing fancy but standard HD. I know Bigheadtaco uses it alot for vlogging. But that's probably for the size.

Ive always worked fulltime for companies or governmental agencies. Any freelance Ive done has always been for the fun of it. All my stuff and the YouTube have been for personal projects and to keep my shooting and technical "know how" up to speed. Ive never "needed" to use personal gear for work. Even if I sometimes have because it was good stuff I will still have a camera for stills and what not. But lately I haven't owned any good video shooter since they arent very good with stills. An xt2 would be nice but the xt1 is just far to affordable. Any who, went a bit OT there. If anyone is thinking about the LS300 all I can say is that its a great camera. -

No I dont have it. I dont have any personal video gear. Decided to switch jobs after 7.5 years as a producer. At the new place I will also shoot a lot of video. So no need to do that as a hobby anymore. Will rent for personal docs and such. For jlog I just ETTR. That usually fixed it. And if there still is a bit of noise is ok with me. -
Thats awesome. I used to have the original M Monochrome. Nice camera for sure. Right now Im enjoying the Ricoh GRii. APS-C and no AA filter makes for very tasty B&Ws, pocket sized
-
On my screen it looks very nice. B&W can never be over sharpened imo. And refreshing to see some nice monochrome video. A format used far to little these days.

It was €2800 when I got it last year. It was a EU wide sale. Might come again. -
Review of the service Stolen Camera Finder!
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Update 07-04-17 Sad day in Sweden today (now its ok for you to speak about Sweden Mr Trump, but please don't...) but at least the story of the stolen Leica came to a somewhat happy ending. Yesterday I received a selfie from the original owner with the camera and he seems very happy. He then not only reimbursed me for the shipping but also a pretty healthy percentage of what I lost. Im not gonna talk numbers here but it was a very reasonable finders fee. He is happy, Matt from stolencamerafinder.com is happy, Im happy. In other words a happy ending to a sad story! -
I guess its because Im old fashioned and started out in TV a long time ago before the DSLR boom. So Im used to professional gear where setting a custom white balance is an easy thing that an ENG-shooter does ten times a day. Same with focus. I need it to work, so use manual. I guess thats why I shoot so much film and prefer cameras like Leica. Less fiddle faddle and instead focus on the craft and cteating. We all like different things and work in different ways. You said once you liked to use tele for street shooting while many if not most of us like to get in close to the subject. Nothing wrong with either approach. Just different tastes.

Disclaimer: I dont have the camera, Im not saying its good or bad. I haven't watched Max, Kens or any other AF test. Personally I would never use AF anyway. Its to slow and imprecise for my way of doing things. So this comment is not about the AF in the GH5, its about AF in general. But, If it really comes down to "learning" how to use the AF its at least safe to say its not great. Ive said the same thing about WB in Sony Slog. Some say it requires practice and testing. Bullshit imo. A $3K camera that needs special treatment for something so fundamental and simple as WB... thats just a bad WB. An AF in a $2K camera that needs more fiddling than MF just to get it going... sounds like a pretty mediocre AF imo. Again, not saying the camera is bad, so take a deep breath before defending. All AF is mediocre at best imo. I dont use AF on any camera. I hardly ever use it for stills (to slow) so I couldn't care less. I was just thinking out loud about what Ive read in this thread. There are far more important things to factor when deciding on a camera imo. AF in video isnt at the top of the list. In fact, its not even on the list.

Maybe so, but I cant remember any camera ever being hacked until there was a firmware update file available. No such file has ever been released for the 1DC. At least so they said.
-
Same reason they haven't done it on the 1DC. They don't know how. Canon haven't releases a firmware update file yet for them either. Without that they dont even know where to begin.

Review of the service Stolen Camera Finder!
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
You can enter the serialnumber manually. No need to take a pic. Easy to say but I hope so. If it was something very expensive I guess it would instead strengthen my tenacity to track who originally stole it. All I felth was that it wasn't the original owners fault. He has done absolutely nothing wrong. I could have done more research. Also it would be a crime (litterally) for me to keep it, use it or sell it. I dont want to be the criminal in this story -

Im pretty sure thats not JVC I will report it, youtube usually removes stolen videos very fast, thanks for letting me know. Ebay will probably just tell me to file a police report about the seller who most likely isn't the original thief either. I will contact the seller to let him know and see what he says. -
Review of the service Stolen Camera Finder!
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Yeah its been mentioned in media and on blogs from time to time. But still I think a lot of people don't know or remember the site exists. Thats why I decided to spread the word. I would love for it to be common practice to always post serial numbers on eBay etc so everyone can checkout. -
When you buy and sell used camera gear you need to be careful. A lot of stolen stuff floats around and markets like eBay makes it easy for them to disappear. That’s why a service like Stolen Camera Finder is a godsend. http://www.stolencamerafinder.com/ I recently bought a Leica T. A lovely camera. For street shooting I would say its the best camera I’ve ever used. Totally in love! But this is not about the camera. The price was fine, the seller had a long history, everything seemed legit. He even provided the serial number. When I got it home I tested it out and everything was fine. The day after I had to leave for a tripp and I naturally brought the camera. It was not until I got home that I remembered that I should just do a routine check of the number on Stolen Camera Finder. Why I didn’t do this beforehand, like I usually do is beyond me… Stolen Camera Finder works by crawling the internet and sites like Flickr, registering EXIF Data. In many cameras the unique serial number of the camera and lens are imbedded in the data. You then simply drag-n-drop an image on the site or enter the number manually. If the crawler gets a match its BINGO! You can: Find a stolen camera Report a found camera Checkout previous owners of camera Track stolen and reposted images So What Happened? I entered the number manually and… Bingo! It had been reported stolen in Spain two years ago. So I filed a report of a “Camera Found” and waited for a day or two. Since I didn’t hear anything I contacted Matt, who runs the site. He has now put me in touch with the original owner who lives in Italy and we are working out the details on how it will be returned! All in all I will probably loose a bit of money since the seller probably wont pay up and/or used a fake name etc. But I will certainly gain a bit on my “Feel Good Account”. And at the end of the day, I would love it if the same thing happened to me if anything ever got stolen. A bit of a sunshine story imo (now back to searching for a new Leica T, like its slogan says, "Easy to use, Hard to forget".)

My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Yes very polite. Very very polite. No passive aggressiveness. No opinion forcing. No cheap puns. Not trying to get the thread closed or anything. Just politeness in its purest form. I've had a smile through out the whole thread, and still do. But definitely not as super duper polite. No joke, I have never experienced such a big chunk of politeness. Its the politest ever. Like ever. Polite. (Better put this here since some people are on edge it seems: ) Anyway Im out. I started the thread to see if some where interested in the adapter and tell my thoughts about it. That is the thread title. And not the constant bickering that lead me to many months ago put "The Video Movement is Dead" under my profile. I wrote a long post last summer about how this movement has taken the same turn as all fads do eventually. Most have moved on to other fields. Pros are at work. Enthusiasts and artists are out shooting. Very few of them attend forums, most never do. Left on the forums is just a few people trying to keep the ship floating while the "Assburgers" try to sink it with the never ending stream of arguments and forced opinions about specs, Canon, idiots, Philip Bloom jealousy, etc, etc, bla, bla, bla... It seems to me that even Andrew is starting to loose faith. I wont read any more response to this thread but if someone has a comment or question about the actual adapter Im happy to answer as best I can (If so, contact me on YT, I turned of notifications on all forums years ago so there is a very big risk that I never see it.) Also, to help finance a Leica version of the adapter I might consider selling the Sony version. So if someone is interested they know where to find me. -
My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
There is no point. Again he completely ignores what anyone says, don't respect others opinions, don't even try to understand what others think. Instead he tries to close the thread just because some don't share his views and wont let his opinion be forced upon them. Doesn't sound like reason or discussion in my book, more like a mild form of terrorism... -
My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
And wood tones. You are absolutely right. I've totally given up on trying to discuss with him now. He ignores my questions but demand I answer his. I tried in various ways explain that some full frame cameras cant use higher ISOs than small sensor cameras (it varies from camera to camera). I tried to explain that not everyone is willing to change shutter speed because that effects the motion blur. I tried to explain that for example a 12mm lens is more likely to have barrel distortion than a 35mm. I clearly showed (what most of us know) that exposure doesn't change with sensor size, the notion that crop factor applies to aperture is a myth. But most of all he doesn't comprehend that this is for ME and not HIM. If he don't give a rats about ISO noise, use NDs or only shoot landscapes then that's fine. If DOF is all that matters then he can go ahead and calculate any way he wants. I don't care. But I do care about the endless amount of beginners contacting me and asking if its true that their phone can do everything that a FF can. Or the countless beginners who are told that they shouldn't consider for example a BMPCC because they then "need a f1.8 lens just to match the exposure of a f4". Only to find out later that it was total BS and that exposure remains the same. Not to mention the guys (in my experience most girls just shoot and don't go on about meaningless specs as much as guys) who says "there is no wide angle for the BMPCC" just because they don't get that comparing formats is totally useless. A 12mm on s16 is a wide lens and the shooter shouldn't give a crap about what a 12mm looks like on an old box camera with glass plates and a gunpowder flash. They should learn to use their camera.. that's all. So your right Tweak. In order to remain sane I will stop trying. He can believe and think what ever he wants.
