  1. Its all down to taste I guess. Personally I have never owned a combo with creamier bokeh before. Not with 0.95 lenses, not M-Mounts, Sony FE, Canon-L or Nikon FX. I just love how soft blurred edges get. How everything seems to flow into eachoter and how "un harsh" bokeh balls become without a bunch of specs in them. Just light.
  2. BTW, Street Shooting at f1.9 with this thing isn't exactly easy. But man is it creamy
  3. You get less crop factor than without. Its closer to medium format than full frame. The Mamiya has x0.62 and the Sony + adapter x0.7. The Sony alone of course has x1.0.
  4. IMO, Wider field of view, sure it has a bigger sensor. But sharper.. Dont get me wrong, I love film and if I ever had to choose between them to use for the rest of my life it would be film. And even though T-Max has a crazy amount of sharpness it cant be as sharp as digital in this experiment. Mainly because the scanner isnt very sharp. And on my screen it shows up that way.
  5. Update 4: Film vs Digital Today I did a little test with the adapter vs my Mamiya 645 Film Camera. The main point of the test was to make sure the camera worked for the same reason as earlier (24h return policy). So no, its not a proper shootout. I used a roll of expired Kodak T-Max400 that came included, no idea how the seller had stored it. Developed a few hours ago in Tetenal Ultrafin and used my crappy flat bed scanner for speed. First of all, some parameters: Same lens on both cameras. Same ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed. I did NOT shot from the same distance. I did NOT focus at the same point (to dark). The Film was Kodak T-Max 400 Developed and quickly scanned by me. The film has been adjusted in post. The Digital has had a “Kodak T-MAx400” Preset added. One question Ive gotten before is if the adapter adds barrel distortion. Looking at the door behind me on the mirror selfie I might say, no, it was already there. Another note is the bigger image from the Mamiya which has different aspect ratio and crop (x0.62 vs x0.7). But I can also bee exaggerated due to different distances. Might be the Mamiya viewfinder that makes me back up a bit. Will test again. Sony Selfie Mamiya Selfie GP with the Sony GP with the Mamiya The Mamiya with the Sony The Sony with the Mamiya BTW, shot a bit of video yesterday. Pulling focus at f1.9 went pretty ok and the added weight reduced shakiness by a lot. Hopefully I will have a video test done this weekend.
  6. Not on my screen. The sheets in focus are infront of her leg that sits just on the edge of focus. And her face is of course infront of her legs. I will make a proper tests with objects at know distances. Sheets arent very reliable imo. But now I know what you are looking for.
  7. I have tried to capture field curvature against huge walls witj lots of lines and patterns. So far Im unable to provoke such an artifact. But I haven't tested all my lenses yet.
  8. I use small sensors like m4/3 and APS-C to get deep depth focus zones from a comfortable distance to the subject. Prefocus is key for me out and about. Much faster than any AF I ever tried. But this is for stills.
  9. My 50mm primes or zooms definitely don't have the rendition of the Mamiya + Adapter. So IMO its very exciting. Its medium Format. In short, I'm blown away by the look and detail. (the adapter and MF lenses also seems to have way less aberration than my modern lenses, but I need to test it more to confirm.)
  10. Cool, but thats not what I need. My goal is to have all the needed filters in camera so I can swap lenses without having to move the filter. I use magnetic filter adapters today for quick swaps of for example the build in ND. But it would be nice to have both an ND and IR Cut (or just IR) built in.
  11. I just tried this because I had never thought about it or heard about it. I can't replicate the problem, I can copy files all I want even when they are in use. What exactly do I have to do the make this occur?
  12. Sweden is a great place for camera nerds in the summer when the sun never sets and the golden hour lats for ever. The winter is of course the opposite. So when I come home from work I can usually see a sunset but then its lowlight photo or no light photo. But I can at least take indoor shots to test my second Mamiya 80mm f1.9 that arrived today. We have a service here where one can return items for a full refund within 24h when buying used stuff from regular people online. So light or no light, I needed to test it. The lens was in great shape. Its of course bigger than a f2.8 version but with the adapter its never gonna be a pancake anyway. Both shots are f1.9 because.. you know... it can. That of course means not the maximum amount of sharpness. But I still really like the detail without looking "too digital" if you know what I mean. I like how when zooming in I can see that GP had a hair stuck in her mouth that goes in and out of focus on its way down to the bed spread.
  13. Yup, pre launch and promotional footage is always very contrasty and straight from camera. And every time its forgotten and people say "To video" and "Crushed Blacks". Every time, for every new camera, forever.
  14. It remover quite a bit of Moire and sits in the camera. It can be used together with the BMPCC speedbooster as well. Some say it also has a slight affect on the image to the positive, gives it a less digital taste.
  15. Sadly Sweden had to settle with only one for Best Cinematography. In other news, the Tech Oscar went to the Sony F65! http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sony-f65-cinealta-wins-tech-oscar-sony-world-photography-awards-shortlist-announced/
  16. And with the BMPC4K you don't have to worry about IR, moire or aliasing either. For the BMPCC one can also consider the Mosaic filter.
  17. Hey, I was just quoting people from this forum. I think its total BS. Yup, and the 1DC is one of them. My tip, bring a 5Dmkiii next time and it will be better But seriously, it would be fun to go on a set like that but with lights and all and try to match it.
  18. You mean "some people". Personally I want full creative control over my images and will never settle for locked frames from a video.
  19. Yey! Im not alone! Great pictures and awesome bokeh! BTW, if someone feel they would like to go for it but not "hunt for expensive lenses" I can say, the lenses are cheap. Like always its about knowing where to look and how. My cheapest medium format lens so far is a 80mm f1.9 for $120 wich included a Mamiya 645 Pro camera. I can sell the camera for $120. So $0 for the super fast 80mm feels alright compared to any vintage glass. I also passed on a $180 Pentacon 6 camera including two nice lenses. Both deals where on ebay but settled outside.
  20. True. No I only recorded internally. All the reviewers I found who had used a Nika or similar said it wasnt much of a difference.
  21. So was the NX1 Not saying they are going to close shop or go under just yet. But getting awards doesn't always help.
  22. I love the Videomic X, really great for ambience, on camera and obviously music. Nice article BTW!
  23. Sounds to me like you might be one of those that couldn't tell the difference and is a bit upset about it... Open question to all, If film was so bad why do many of the best film makers still use it? And no no no, don't give me the old "they don't know better" or "they are idiots", "just nostalgic" Anyone wanting to make such a claim must first present us with evidence to the multiple Oscar statues they have won. I sometimes cant believe that there have been people from this very forum stating that a guy like Stephen Spielberg would have used the Samsung NX1 because of its technical superiority instead of film, but choose not to because he is a "hack" or because he doesn't know the NX1 exist... Give me a fu..ing break!
