Ha ha ha, exactly!

At least its not as bad as when some of us calls out the broken products Sony released. Lately its gotten better but there still are many protectors. Same with the NX1, even though they are very few. Its refreshing to see that Canikon doesn't have many broken products and when they do the users aren't hiding in the sand about it. Just look in the xc10 thread. But the phenomenon as a whole is always there. In smartphones (currently Samsung), what music to listen to, soccer team to route for or why not Trump vs Hillary. It was probably the same thing when they discussed pottery in ancient Egypt.

The very underestimated problem of RADIOACTIVE lenses
Mattias Burling replied to Junior's topic in Cameras
Im not a radiologist like Saadawi but I did some tests a while back. -
Just looked quickly on the G80 price, it seems it was the kit with a 14-140mm that I compared to. A couple used C100i Ive found are/where a few bucks cheaper. So my earlier post still stands, if it would have been me I would have gone for the C100i.

My Review of the Zhiyun Crane 3-Axis Gimbal
Mattias Burling replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
BTW, Zhiyun has a smaller version coming up. -
Thought we where over this camera x is better than camera y. No camera is better than another, it depends on the user. If you ask Iron Film the FS5 is better. If you ask me the c100ii clearly wins. None of us is right or wrong. To answer the title question. Me personally I would look at a used c100i. Here they cost about the same as a Panasonic g80/85. Crazy value. And then I would have lots of spare cash for sound gear, lenses, or mayby just a vacation if I already have everything I need. But thats just me.

Casio had up to 1000fps in their compacts 6 years ago. But I get what you mean

Those aren't exactly easy to get a hold of. I put my name on their waiting list just for fun. It was months ago.

If I ignore the low bitrate, the no mic input, the massive moire and the dreadful 30p only, my E-M5 was very fun to shoot. And the colors where just f....ng insane! Pen-f was also cool. The xt2 seems nice. Fuji colors are just as good and its a very competent stills camera (I guess better for my type of stills). But, I dont need my stills camera to very good at home since I use film. At work my camera is provided. And that IBIS really is something. So in conlusion, I have tested some footage from the xt2 and its a top pick. But if the flat file from the Olympus delivers, which I suspect it will, the Oly might bring it home.

Just checked the price for the rx100v here in Sweden and compared to a new rx100iv its pretty much a no brainer. But people like me that prefer buying used will probably still see a competitor in the mark iv. History shows the mark iv should drop a bit in price and then I guess the V is in i a good spot. Either way, pleasantly surprised by Sony pricing this time. Usually I feel they raise it a bit much between each model even if they generally get a lot of new feature (that may or may not work as expected).

Like all promo footage from all cameras Ive seen they go for the sharp and contrasty look. But I definitely think I see some potential in it. Given how the Pen-F and E-M5 worked Im pretty sure I could work with it. And then there is the flat profile to really make it shine. This has made my expectations bigger

Yes, raw can be compressed, absolutely nothing strange about that. And just like with stills you have lossless or lossy compression. Lossless: No information lost, kinda like winzip to make it easier (even tough its not exactly like that). Lossy/visually lossless: Where some information is lost but nothing that a couple of eyes could ever spot. Uncompressed raw: Not very common, I can only think of the 5Dmkiii, the 2.5K BMCC if it has the original firmware or the Digital Bolex. Might of course be others but those are the three I know. Seems some would like to know they ins and outs about raw, this article is pretty in depth: http://www.hdvideopro.com/columns/help-desk/formats-explained/#

Will this iMac be good enough for 4K video editing?
Mattias Burling replied to Mat Mayer's topic in Cameras
Final cut would handle it lag free on an old mba without a dedicated gpu. Thats one of the reasons I switched from Premire to a FCPX/Resolve combo at home after 6 years of Premiere. -
My old Red camera could record 4.6K Raw and 3K Raw in 60p to an old CF-Card (Lexar 8GB x300 from 2008) and BMD does HD Raw in 60fps to SD. So some flavor of Raw would be able to go onto the SD card. The bottle neck would be in the cameras processing.

Definitely use something like Rawmagic. It takes away that long process you speak of in After Effects. The files convert to DNGs very quickly and then its smooth sailing in Resolve. Switch to BMD-film and grading is a piece of cake. BTW, If one really wants to use After Effects, my tip is to set the shadows, mids, highlights in After Effects and use the Visoncolor Raw to BMDFilm conversion and export. Then its as easy as grading BMD Prores.. which is what it is. I made a tutorial once, but Im sure there are better once out there and as I said, I recommend Rawmagic and then using Resolve. Then the process is no longer than the NX1 or some AVCHD that needs converting anyway. Sounds cheap, I see them regularly for $1100-1300 depending on accessories and such. Its a good deal imo, same price as the NX1 plus the S-Zoom and a couple of primes or a BMPCC plus full kit including lenses etc. A whole lot cheaper than it used to be. Im waiting, I want it sub $1K. So far only seen two for that low price and I was to late... but Im in no hurry.

I got a confirmation from Nikon support back when it was announced that it will not have the flat profile. If thats still true it might be the dealbreaker for me. The d750 and d5500 looses minimum one but probably two stops of DR when going out of the flat profile. Its night and day imo. Same with Sony. (I know some say cine has the same DR as S-log, but not according to my eyes.) And at least according to the spec sheet, the Panasonic LX10/15 doesnt have the Cinelike profiles either. Which would most likely break the deal for me there as well.

I think alot of still photographers would make that trade. Long exposure photography is extremely popular, especially among hobbyists. And pretty much the rest of them hunt for SDOF. And hobbyists is a much more profitable target audience than pros. So imo it makes sense to have the A7iii, A7riii and the more specialized A7siii.

Well, brought the rx100iv home today and set it up just the way I like it. Went rather quickly since its my third iv and I think seventh rx100 in total. Hopefully third time is the charm. And my new tactic of treating it as an HD only camera might make it a keeper. If so, maybe a mark V will be bought after its initial price drop.
