1.74x - A Crop Odyssey - Canon 5D Mark IV officially announced
Mattias Burling replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah people are the worst, listening to a full time pro that shoots all over the world 365 days a year, how dare they. They definitely should ask the folks online that spend most their time online and haven't touched their camera in years. Their the once that know the specs. Their the once that have all the charts, numbers and statistics. All far more important than experience when giving advice or sharing an opinion. Any who, I started watching Veep this weekend. Funny show. And I totally lost it when this scene came on. Very fun, true and current -
I hope they don't cut the zoom range in half. Not Worth it for the extra stops.

That already exist in other cameras so totally doable.

What I love about Canon and what I hate about Canon
Mattias Burling replied to tomsemiterrific's topic in Cameras
What I love: Deliver what they promise. Hate: Electronic aperture. Im waiting on the prices of 5Dmkiii to come down even more. Meanwhile I bought an even earlier model of the line. It was 100% new and unused, didn't cost much and delivers just as it should. Even features like "look to focus" which I would bet all my money wouldn't work on such an old camera, if it had not been a Canikon (both are solid as rocks imo). And a few good old fashioned "Pet Tests" (B&W was Fomapan200 in Neofin. Color was Ektar dev in room temperature) -
Display units in stores are always broken and man handled in my experience. No matter what brand. No, I think they will stay on for a while still. On the still side its another story. Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Pentax.... This won't last. There aren't enough customers. Samsung is not the last to go.

It should hold value as a stills camera for quite some time. I bought my 1DC for less than the cost of an A7sii and sold it for pretty much the same cost (think I added €200). When I bought it, it was sitting at the very last spot on a market site. It was their oldest ad and looked unsellable. But when I sold it I had no problem moving it fast. I simply called it "Canon 1DC/1DX for sale". When people called and asked I explained the differences and they thought "wow a 1DX for this price and it does some video thing as well!" A 1DX is still much more expensive around my parts.

1.74x - A Crop Odyssey - Canon 5D Mark IV officially announced
Mattias Burling replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
What matters is what the spectators will buy. They are the once that makes money for the camera makers. Not the 50 pros but the 50 000 others in the arena. Now, what do you think they will buy. Is it the same brand as they saw all the pros use? Or perhaps something from the company that makes their heat pump or old VCR. My guess is the former. BTW I work with professional photographers almost daily. So far I have never ever seen anything but Canon or Nikon. Unless we are talking light web content where its mostly compacts or phones. -

High mp isn't the end all spec for a stills camera. -
I night not remember correctly but wasn't the GH4 100mbit in 4K and 200mbit in HD? That's why my first thought was 10bit HD. But again, just from memory and to lazy to google.

Atomos have always said that the Shogun can record raw-prores or raw-rawDNG with firmware. When I asked from what, they said, from any camera that desire to do so. They have just been waiting for a camera manufacturer who wants to do it. And its +2 years since I had that conversation with them. Since then the Raw-prores has already been introduced. (I wonder if the 10bit will be HD only)

Where have I heard all this before....? Oh that's right, after every single camera Canon has released. Same complaints. And all the prior times cameras that where so so hated like the 5Dmkiii, C300, C100, 1DC and XC10 all ended up being loved in the end. Why is that, what was it that made all the hate go away....? Oh that's right, people actually used it instead of looking at numbers and charts. No I'm not a fanboy, don't own a canon and won't buy the 5Div. But I know the story. Same thing with the XC10. It was almost only the fact that it got so much hate that interested me enough to buy it. I was the first to give it a positive review, since I had actually used it. And man did I had to sit through pissed of comments. The reason I think history will repeat itself is that its Canon. People always glance at a spec paper and think they automatically have the whole picture. They think a huge company and market leader like Canon would just put something together and not think it through very very very very very veeeery thoroughly. My money is on they knowing exactly what they are doing. And I don't think we are going to see thread after thread about bad color, fpn, over heating, etc. Personally I might get an mkiii again when they drop. I prepared a bit by buying an even older member of their top prosumer line. So yes, by tomorrow I own a Canon and therefore by forum law I will be a Fanboy-sheep-idiot-uneducated-noob. Basically anything accept someone who likes the camera, because the specs makes that impossible...
-
I wonder how cheaply I can get a used mkiii now... Interesting.

Kodak was bailed out by Hollywood and have financial security for many years to come. Its more likely one of the large digital brands will have to go the Samsung way into the toilet. There are just to many options for the market. I order stuff from Kodak every week, so not ded yet.

If one is willing to compromise a few pixels the BMPC4K is very close with 4000 x 2160 (DCI is 4096×2160, for Flat (1.85:1) presentation 3996×2160). And of course one can always compromise the resolution and go D16 with 2048 x 1152 (DCI is scope 2048×858 or flat 1998×1080). Both cameras have global shutters and very nice motion.
-
The difference however is that the Canon XA35, XA30 and Legria 40 are all the same cameras and was released at the same time. Just like the XA25 (has SDI), XA20 (No SDI) and Legria 30 (no XLR). So its not exactly their MO to release them separate. Then again, its not exactly their MO to release a new version so shortly after the previous. Either way, any sort of update, minor or big, should lower the prices of a used XC10. Which is of course always welcomed. Hopefully we will know on Thursday.

Oh how refreshing, a sensitive fanboy doesn't agree with someone else's decision and calls them an idiot Also, please link to page, forum or blog where I've said that I have bought 0 canon cameras. I had a discussion at work yesterday and asked the others if they could figure out why this camera (as well as others) is such a hot topic. I mean, do you guys attack people on the streets for not hitting on your girlfriend? Or do you call people at the pizza shop "idiots" for not choosing the same toping as you? All of it kinda supports my theory on it being mostly the assburger part of the film community on forums. The once that sends you a graf or chart when you ask for an example image. Any who, I don't agree with wolf33d that buying a Sony makes one an idiot, nor buying a 5D. Being upset about it on others behalf though... Maybe not idiotic but definitely a bit disturbed Since the thread is already 100% derailed I will wait until footage is out. Feel free to call me what ever you like while I'm gone. My favorite candy is black liquorice, in case you want something to be upset about

Speaking of lies, Please link to a site, forum or blog where I have ever told you or anybody what you/they do or dont need. You can debate all you want but dont lie about me. Because then your just an ass instead of a person with an opinion different from mine whom I would respect. Asses that try to force their opinion on others and turn every single stone to find any half ass reason to why people use a camera accept that they might actually like it, I dont respect at all.
-
If you think Sony is stupid, that's up to you. You can debate from any perspective you want. But if you exclude "weekend warriors, vloggers, Japanese tourists and moonlighting wedding photographers", then there is like 2 people left for you to debate. BTW, if that's the criteria there is no way you can talk about the GH4 and A7x. Its not like they are A-cams on anything above what you just dismissed. In other words, your logic is very confusing to me and I feel that debating you further gets us no where fast. I will continue to speak about the 5Dmkiv for what it is and don't care if you only want to focus on certain perspectives. Your just gonna have to ignore my posts.

So to sum up: Canon are stupid for not focusing on video in whats probably the most successful DSLR line in history. Even though the video shooters are just a tiny tiny tiny minority among the buyers of still cameras. The professionals as well as amateurs that buy it are just stupid and uneducated. No way they could actually like it. Its better to have a +$3000 camera overheat in the middle of a job than to make it work. Me who own 0 products from canon but have bought pretty much every camera Sony ever made obviously work for Canon. The absolute majority of professional still shooters buy Canon or Nikon. But they will now switch to m4/3 because the 5D doesn't have C-Log. Yeah.. I'm not sure. This is my prediction: It will be the most sold fullframe DSLR for the next 5 years.

The specs so far look great imo. I could imagine myself buying it. The Codec is the main selling point for me. Also the crop is welcomed. The only downside so far is the earlier models low prices. The 1DC I had was much cheaper and probably not far off in quality. And in the end I choose the even cheaper 5Dmkii and sold the 1DC. 5D had more features and raw. And now when the 5Dmkiii is almost sub $1K and definitely will be as soon as the 5Dmkiv is out... it looks like the better deal on paper. But again, paper and specs doesn't mean anything at all. The only thing that matters is the actual results. So its to early to judge the camera. Specially since even the specs are simply rumors.
-
Lol, I rest my case
-
You where talking about processors, where are those facts? Roumered specs won't do, I want the facts you have. A7rii... No thanks, had both the a7sii and a6300. Had to return one and sell the other. Their codecs aren't up to standards in 2016. And that's just one of the many problems they have imo.
-
Please link to the facts you have. Im not a Canon fan. I don't own any Canon products. I only have Sony and Panasonic. But I say, specs don't mean jack. A 5 year old 5Dmkii produces way better looking images than any Panasony and with more features. Canon are still outselling Panasony with their 5 year old camera. At a very high price as well. But I guess all the people buing them are just "blind" or what ever... Jealousy comes to mind here... Your just mad because you failed
-
I don't know about joke. None of the competitors offer anything like it. I guess the Sony AX100 could be considered a competitor but boy did it underwhelm. Nah, nothing from a GH4 I've ever seen matches ML Raw from a 5D. If you have any examples I would love to see them (and no charts, images ). 4K from a GH4. Sony A7s or other low bitrate shooters doesn't look as good as upscaled HD from a good camera imo. Ive done so many blind tests and people always fail to identify the 4K anyway. even the once here that claim to always see it. But hey, nothing wrong with 4K, I use it all the time.
