  1. Good finds today. A 100% mint 15mm f4.5 that covers most full frames. Viewfinder and awesome rearcap included. Total cost $250. Sample using T-Max 100. Also a Fujinon 12.5mm f1.4. Very solid and good price. No sample so far, will use it on the Bolex. The M6 will also use the 15mm.
  2. Ive had the same cameras as you use to wow your friends. I've also had several 4K cameras that outshoot it in every way. Still 4K isn't anything more than a feature in my book. Dontvsee what exactly it is that I/we don't get? Isn't it just that I/we have a different opinion than you? Isn't that OK? I just don't see how you could be "right" and we just "don't get it". (speaking of blind tests )
  3. If the b-cam is 70% to get additional features an only 30% to get a two camera setup, I would go for a BMPCC, 5DRaw or what have you. But if its 70% to get a second angle over time, I would make it easy and cheap with a second NX1.
  4. Imo it was about the DR before 4K. And before HD. And before SD. And before Beta Max. And before colored film. Its always been the biggest focus on DR, still is and still will be tomorrow. DR has been the buzz word for as long as I can remember. 4K resolution is just like a slider, a flash, an EVF, 120fps, its just another feature. Until it becomes a standard. 720p took 10 years to become a standard, not in the world, but in a big enough part of the world. Now we are waiting on 1080p HD to become the next thing. After that maybe 4K will catch on so much that its a "need" instead of a "nice". But if it doesn't have the DR its not gonna stick. 50% of the Oscar nominees are still shot on film. And it isn't because of resolution.
  5. I would like to flip the earlier question and ask for an example from the NX1/NX500 that looks better. I've had both those cameras and imo they can't touch a bmcc/bmpcc/5d. Also "camera moves" in post does not look good. I get it if you are shooting an interview alone and didn't have time for B-roll. But you could do that within HD if you really needed to. It should be an emergency tool, not sop.
  6. You don't concider f3.5 as fast enough for Medium Format? Yup, if using the latest firmware, there are no Blackmagic that shoots uncompressed.
  7. For me resolution is nowhere near the top of the list of what makes a good image. When I compared the 4K NX1 and RX100iv to the 5Ds HD Raw, the Canon won. The BMPCC or Bolex runs circles around GH4s and Sonys, imo. Same thing happens with still cameras. Plus I don't know how many times I've done blind tests and not even the biggest 4K evangelists of this and other forums can tell the difference. Now, if we have HD vs 4K and all else is equal, both shooting Raw, wide DR, nice color science, etc.. Then 4K might come in handy. But its not needed for any of the work I do personally. Not until its a standard, and thats years from now. So with that said, I still buy HD cameras and have gone back and forth from 4K many times.
  8. Just use it and let it get scratched up. A little patina never hurt no body.
  9. Here is my example. Take a magazine cover, take a pair of scissors, cut out a crop of the cover. Did it get darker? Did the DOF change? Did the compression change? Or was is just a crop?
  10. I shoot MF, LF as well as s16 almost daily and your right, it took me 5 minutes to figure out that crop factor on aperture is the dumbest rumor on the internet.
  11. Yes it included a Bolex, that I used the other day for my next D16 review No there is no need for IR Cut on the D16.
  12. FF is not MF in the same way that a Smartphone isnt a Large Format. Your not gonna shoot a portrait of three people from head to toe at a six feet distance in a small room with a 105mm lens on a FF, no matter what the math say. Yes the DOF and exposure is the same no matter what the sensor size is. Adding crop factor to the aperture is BS. The difference is in usage. Can I get the DOF in combination with the perspective I want from the working distance that I want. Thats why MF and LF is "better" for portraits. You can get the whole person and the room from a short distance with the lovely perspective of a 105 or there about.
  13. Or use a scope and/or properly set monitor.
  14. Could have had more cameras like the c100ii, c300, Red One, DB, etc, etc. Which are sub $4000 or even $3000. But I get it, can't include everything. BTW, when I voted 5Dmkiii in one, I don't mean only for raw. The regular avchd is still good for lots of applications.
  15. I buy my from ebay as well. As always one needs to look around and not just at the top of the list. I'm making a "how to buy cheap on eBay" after I've bought the once I have my eyes on
  16. Kern Paillards are sweet for sure. And one can by a set of three for peanuts. Used the 16mm switar as well as the 25mm and 75mm for this. I'm looking to buying a new set. Found all three plus the 10mm for $100.
  17. Have you tried it? In my experience the DR is just fine, lots of info to bring out in the shadows and just as gradable as any 8-bit footage.
  18. So when the camera breaks down due to software issues and discharges a full battery within minutes like some smartphone its a user error? Or a battery that after only a few weeks looses 80% of its capacity... Nah, thats bad gear, not a user error. I don't find it all that difficult, the button is broken. Unless he stabbed it with a knife or shot it I think its safe to say its a bad button. BTW, I've started to notice that a big portion (at least 70%) of all the still shooters I talk to are having the same experience if they use Sony. Most seem to regret switching to Sony. Some even call it (loosely translated) the "Sony Scam".
  19. Only user issue is your reading, I had a iv not a iii
  20. Quickly tested the ISO800 and Im very happy. I was very satisfied shooting ISO 200 and 400. One gets used to it. I shoot a lot of film and my leica M8 likes ISO160 but its not a problem. After a while you learn to live with in, both in daylight and nighttime. I get why people want A7s ISO capability, but if they just took the time to learn it wouldn't be such an issue like some make it out to be. Even the BMPC4K was usable in very low light at ISO400. One just had to watch out for the FPN. I underexposed the Digital Bolex at ISO800 and pushed the footage in post. Of course I got a lot of noise, but pretty close to the amount from the BMPCC. And unlike the BMPC and, from what Ive heard, the Micro, NO FPN. Plus, this is with zero NR and Im trying to see the noise. With a simple curve adjustment I could get usable footage without Neat Video. A bonus is the new Color Matrix, its awesome. This is 100% not graded, straight from the camera. Looks very accurate to my eye. No magenta bias like before so no need to switch to BMDFilm Gamma. Will shoot something more interesting soon. And again, please note, the test was to see noise, so expect noise.
  21. Both A7sii and RX100iv jammed, froze and needed battery pulled almost daily. Never happened on Canikon or Panasonic.
  22. Have only had my new D16 for a few hours and shot just to make sure it works. But damn.. The iso 800 looks pretty darn OK to my eye... Need more testing though. Feels nice to have CCD on both stills and video.
  23. Nope, the T is a real Leica from the ground up, not like the strange Panasonic things. Leica T, X, SL, M and Q are all legit.
