  1. I sometimes like them and make them. It depends. If there is little information about accessories and/or build quality I think they are a good source. There is a lot of things I don't watch, but I don't get angry about it, because I realize that youtube doesn't exist purely for my benefit
  2. Leica is still keeping it real with the M-E that's still on sale with a FF CCD. But it's a big chance its their last.
  3. Now that's what the Magic Lantern team should do. Hack the APS-H M8 or the FF M9 CCD cameras and give them video with Leica/Kodak/DB Mojo I would pay anything I'm very pleased with the colors straight from my M8s sensor. I know it won't happen and is probably impossible, but still....
  4. The D16 was already feature jammed compared to the BMPCC, etc. And today it got some more tools in the box. Full list of features: Display color gamuts Display gammas Accurate display color tuning False color exposure view mode Improvements to image encoding Improvements to ISO accuracy http://www.digitalbolex.com/firmware-1-5-elf-released/ And in case someone forgot what the camera can do.
  5. I can imagine how you feel. A big reason I dont put the same effort into review videos these days is also the toxic atmosphere that now have reached the video gear sites. It used to be a thing among smartphone and computer geeks. I remember Griffin on Indy Mogul saying "a great thing about filmmakers is that they don't bash each others camera choices, like other tech crowds". Well, that time has certainly passed. If a reviewer critique or praise a camera there are 500 people there calling him/her an asshole (speaking of Huffs SL review). There is not one single filmmaker commenting on NFS. There are just trolls. My little theory based on prior experiences with smartphone forums and computer forums is this, The DSLR boom created a fad. All of a sudden every man and woman was a still or video shooter. The industry exploded and so did the community. Like all fads it ended. Most people went on to the next like cooking, cross fit, micro brewery or what ever. The true talent are out there shooting and couldn't give to shits and a popsicle about minor updates in cameras. Left in the community are mostly the assburgers. You know, the peepers who only really cared about having "the best" camera so they could roam the internet and go on about it. You all know the kind. For me EOSHD was a sanctuary where those types often got their ass handed to them. Here most users are hybrids. We enjoy shooting, creating, art but also gear without being blinded by numbers. They also kept away because Andrew is a gear junky like most of us but also an artist who understand that higher number on a spec doesn't mean "better". He is one of only a handfull reviewers I know that don't get side tracked by the specs. The unfortunate part is that I've always been aware that when eoshd grows, the assburgers come lurking. So I've always known its a story with an end. I just hope it doesn't happen to soon. (BTW I'm in a bit of a creative hole when it comes to video. I'm just not feeling it right now. My tip to still keeping the creative flow is stills. Shooting stills is pretty much the same thing but with less stress IMO.)
  6. The reason is that dvxuser has to many subforums. Ive seen it again and again. To many subforums kills forums. Most people, me included, only visit one section of a forum. I'm one of the biggest Blackmagic nerds online and have visited the Blackmagic section of Eoshd less than 10 times. On bmcuser 90% only checks into the general discussion. Have as many sub forums as you like, doesn't matter to me. But I suggest checking with experts first. I know I wouldn't bluntly create sections on a clients forum without analyzing if there are numbers to support it. Its not a decision to be made based on 10 regulars thinking its a great idea. Ask the hundreds of visitors that lurk, they are equally important.
  7. I wasn't overly impressed by my 1DC. Honestly I would rather use a 5D with Raw. So of the two I would take a shot at the 1DXii. But then again, the 1DC was less than half the price of the 1Dxii.
  8. Im more for a b&w setting on the screen or evf, not for the finished product. For stills it's different. Film I love shooting and developing in color. Digital stills somehow always look better in B&W. I'm fighting the urge every day not to buy a Leica Monochrome, and have been since release. If their new screenless camera comes in a monochrome model... The fight would be lost.
  9. It depends higly on which Voigtländer you mean. They make and have made tons of different lenses. Bang/buck their M lenses are very hard to beat.
  10. Yup, on "real" video cameras the EVF is set to B&W. Very helpful imo.
  11. I get realtime playback of Raw on a 8gb Macbook with just an intel card, so it should be fine.
  12. Imo, Don't start subforums, it is what kills forums in general. Just look at dvxuser. Most people, me included never visit subforums. There was even a thread started to summarize the progress so we didn't have to visit the nx1 forum, and it was started by the owner... And there isn't much stuff being sold anyway. Just IMO.
  13. Yeah, imo the drop in DR is as obvious as night and day right there and then on the display. And definitely when color correcting. Same with the Slog3 vs Slog2.
  14. Thanks for the input guys. It does sound like there is a little bit to gain. But is the size really that much smalle? From looking at pictures it looks pretty much the same size as the pocket and with a screen its bigger. I will think about it a bit, but its tempting again.
  15. Been offered a Micro and Video Assist for the price of just the Micro. It was tempting at first but I can't see any reason accept 60p to get it over a pocket. Its bigger (with a screen), more expensive and the form factor isnt for me (never use gimbals or drones). So you guys that has it, am I missing something? Is the image nicer than the pocket?
  16. It looks just fine and will in the future as well.
  17. Its much better but the DR drops already from slog 3 to 2, and again to cine gamma.
  18. I would think 3K 60p and 2K 120p would get you through most music video shoots.
  19. It gets a lot of banding in both slog modes.
  20. Personally I have stopped doing that. I leave the contrast alone as well. Gives me better results than "fake log".
  21. The aperture on Nikon lenses can be controlled with a $10 adapter from eBay. That plus the long flange is what makes them so versatile.
  22. You could probably sell it and buy a used Nikon version for the same price. That way you have aperture control on the NX1 as well as all future cameras no matter what mount. And if you get the ND throttle you will have both aperture control and built in variable ND in the lens.
  23. Thats the infamous Moire from the HD Blackmagic cameras, so that would be the same on the pocket as well. The BMPCC/BMCC/BMMCC Moire is sneaky, usually not a problem, but when it strikes its very strong.
  24. Im only roughly 25% sure I will buy one to try out, but if so, Im waiting on the Silver/Brown with the 20mm f1.7 Kit.
