  1. These are some cool ass topics you are posting but sadly they would probably see more traffic if they were posted on the main board... sadly a lot of folks around here have zero interest in short films or actual finished projects. A shame really.
  2. The Varicam is nice but it's no Arri. The LT easily beats all of the non cine cameras, but I'm unsure, for my tastes, if it beat any of the cine cameras, except for the FS7... her skin looked horrific. The problem with the Varicam was the blown out highs... but a lot of the cameras have that problem in that test. The real surprises for me is how well the Pocket faired against the Varicam and how good the Ursa Mini 4.6K looked at 2 stops under. With that being said, the Varicam looked excellent.
  3. Also, with digital ISO, it states you get better highlight roll off with -0, if true, does it introduce more noise?
  4. Stupid question to more advanced ML Raw users... can I change the WB and ISO using the 5D3's physical buttons, or do I have to go through the ML menu? And gradual exposure... on or off. I'm mostly using the 24-70mm f/4 lens if that matters? Also does it matter if I am shooting with a manual lens?
  5. Although I'm not in the market for a GH5, there are some used ones for sale at BH if you want to save two to four hundred dollars... depending on condition.
  6. It's difficult to really guess the price because we don't know enough about the features. Based on the size alone and believing it's S35, we have to assume they are going after the C100ii and FS5 market. But until we know if it outputs Raw, or even a compressed Raw, we just don't know. With the competive price to feature ratio of the GH5, I would assume it will be on the low end, between 4-5k. If they release it under 4K, this should be a grand slam for Panasonic. Also we don't even know the model number/name... if it's an AF200, it should be on the lower side. If it's part of their Varicam line, it will be on the higher side.
  7. Good to know, thanks. Not worth the risk then.
  8. Yeah, I think anything over $5000 would be a big blunder by Panasonic. I think it will be between $4000 and $4500.
  9. Has there been any movement with ML Raw on the 80D? Canon is selling refurbed 80Ds with the 18-55mm for $829. Could be a great b-cam with DPAF ML Raw.
  10. That's a fair price for it though. So good on you! I love mine. This is the first time in a long time where I haven't felt like an incompetent shooter/colorist... so I can only imagine what some of you guys can do. Also looking forward to testing the 4K Raw next week.
  11. I was interested in the Tamron, but went with the Canon 24-70 f4... the IS is tripod steady. As you know, it's like a point & shoot Raw cinema camera now with the Raw histogram and ETTR hint. I was looking at some Contax Zeiss lenses this morning. But I think I'm just going to continue to grow my Nikkor set. The oval disks do sound pretty damn cool though. Is Rich doing that for you? I do think I want to start another set of manual lenses though. Maybe Leica R. Or maybe I'll go old school with some Taks and Helios.
  12. Nice! Are you keeping your Micro/BMCC? Planning a new feature with ML Raw?
  13. Great advice too, you and Hyalinejim saved my ass with part 1 of my short shoot. What batteries do you use? I have the original Canon battery and it lasted almost the entire first day of shooting, but the Wasabi 3rd Party batteries I bought drain pretty damn quick. Any suggestions?
  14. Yup, I never noticed moire, now I cannot believe how prevalent it is on network TV... usually local news. Anyway, very inspiring video. Actually, not to piss on the GH5, but when I was deadset on preordering it, your Oregon Summer 5D3 video was crucial to me changing my mind and going with the 5D3 instead... I still kinda want a GH5, because it seems like such a great tool, but I don't think I would sell my 5D3 for one... maybe next year when the price settles a little.
  15. I think it was Minolta. Because I went out and bought the 50mm 1.7 because of the video. I wasn't aware the adapter needed corrective glass to reach infinity... I probably didn't know what infinity was to be honest.
  16. Really nice work Luke. It has a very nice modern Alexa look. It kind of reminds me of "The Witch." I have been a fan of yours for years. Right after I got my first DSLR for video... the t2i, I saw one of your Oregon videos shot with Minolta lenses... or was it Yashica? Anyway, I remember telling my girlfriend that I hope to make videos that look as good one day. After seeing this piece, it looks like I'll still be saying that.
  17. Dave thanks for the info, don't mind these pricks... they know not what they do. Everything you've mentioned seems very plausible, Canon is known for their tier system. They also believe 4K is not the be all end all for all shooters, so it would make sense that they retire the C100, drop the C100ii price, and bring the C200 in at the original C100ii MSRP. Thanks again, can't wait for Cinegear.
  18. So just use Arri LogC instead of BlackMagic Film in Resolve?
  19. Is there any way to get ML footage as LogC other than MLRawViewer. Once I updated to Sierra, it doesn't work anymore.
  20. Is the price drop an indicator that they may not release a lite version of Resolve 14 for free?
  21. Yeah that looks good. The greens look excellent. What picture profile?
  22. Maybe it has a built in speedbooster or a multi sensor size like the LS300... either way it's interesting. Or should I say the camera is interesting. I love the image out of the AF100... the 1080 still holds up today in my opinion.
