  1. Oh yeah I'm definitely getting the BMPCC, I just like to have a couple cameras for different purposes. I already got the Nikon Metabones because I have a bunch of old Nikkors and Tokina Nikon glass... plus some old c-mounts. I also picked up a Camtree Cage for it last week... I'm just waiting for a check to come in and then I'll order the pocket.
  2. Sorry if there is already a thread about this, but with the release of the a6500 and the firmware release for the a6300 to help with overheating issues, I feel there is a renewed interest in the a6300/6500 cameras... for me anyway. Si I bought an a6300 last week after testing and enjoying the Rx100v but there are so many settings and adjustments, I thought this could be a good place to share your settings and show off your work.
  3. Thanks I'll give them a try... did you leave everything else at default... even the knee? So far I really like the cinema color the best, but I still have a lot of tests to do. That 24mm sounds interesting. How's the manual focus ring?
  4. Haha, no XT-2 for me though. I'm getting a BMPCC next. Am keeping D5500 and deciding if I should keep a6300 as well. Heading out today for some tests. So far, I think I like the a6300 better than the GX85, but I've only tested slog2... today I am giving cine2 a test spin. These consumer 4K cameras have to fill a very specific spot for me... the GX85 has the IBIS but the a6300 has the PDAF. The GX85 has the cool push af button while in manual mode. The a6300 is Super 35mm and it has the 120fps... there's always compromises... Did you use native lenses with the a6300? If so, which ones?
  5. Well... 1. Your Sigma will be more balanced on the G80. 2. You have a few more video options. 3. You already mentioned an external microphone port. 4. I assume since the G80 is a bigger, heavier camera, the 5-axis must be tuned more to its size and weight, so the jump in weight you want to add, the G80, theoretically, will handle better.
  6. Because you're taking a small camera that's main benefit is that it's a small camera and putting a heavy huge lens on the end of it and then wrapping a cage around it... it's going to be as big as a 5d by the time you're done rigging the thing... so at that point, you may as well get a g80.
  7. He uses a hot shoe handle on his gx80 and with his new implementation of the Sigma 18-35mm and metabones adapter, Jase is afraid the hot shoe may break due to the load.
  8. Yeah with your Canon lenses, and interest in the 1DXii, I was kinda hoping to see what you could do with it.
  9. Nice review, but it really could use an ad or two... But seriously, I've had the GX85 since August and since then I have tested a few cameras and think I am going to sell it... I haven't yet. If I don't get along with the a6300, maybe I'll just do an upgrade from the GX85 to the G85... Do you have any recommended profile settings for the G85?
  10. I go here, Noam Kroll's site and Prolost. Occasionally, I'll go to no film school to see the headlines of the day, but that's it... 30 seconds in and 30 seconds out. I would imagine it isn't cheap running this site, most people would rather visit a site that does not have ads, but I think most of the people who don't want them aren't on the same integrity page as you and their desire to keep your site ad free is because ads are annoying.
  11. This is why I said google banner ads... I don't think you should turn it into cinema5D or no film school, but a google banner ad is the least invasive advertising you could have on your site. With each refresh of the page, a different product would pop up... you would have no direct contact with the advertisers and would not endorse any of them... But... I see your point and it's an admirable position to take! Not that this is any of my business... but does the paid content... books, guides and picture profiles, offset the daily cost of the site?
  12. Very few people on this site would do video work for free, in fact many would be outraged by the notion... so why should owners of web sites work for free? I think you should throw up a google banner ad and use affiliate links if it offsets some of your costs... especially if it gives you more of a reason to create more content for the site. JMO
  13. Cine4 looked pretty good. I just picked up the a6300 and am testing some different settings now myself. Thanks for this.
  14. If you get a cage, I would get a lens support as well to take some of the stress off the mounts. But... if you're gonna go and do all that... you may want to consider selling the GX80 and getting the G85.

    GH5 Prototype

I guess there is no chance of swearing off cooked meat in the New Year?

    How do you grain?

I've never denoised footage and only recently attempted to use any grain. After this week, I am finally done testing cameras and just going with the Pocket... like I should have back in 2014. I basically have most of the peripherals I need for it and a few hundred in BH gift cards, so I should have it by Christmas. If my memory serves me you shoot only with ProRes, correct? Do you use 100% zebras to expose it to the right? And if so, do you still get noise? When I had my dud pocket back in October, I shot only in mid afternoon sun and it seemed fairly clean, but I had the micro long enough to know that there are some noise issues, but as you said, it's fairly organic.

    How do you grain?

Btw, I assume Triple 9 was shot with an Arri with Arriraw? Or even if not, didn't you rent an Amira or a mini a while back? If so, how clean are the shadows? Just out of curiosity?

    How do you grain?

Thanks, I will check it out when I get the Pocket (my 2nd... ugh) I just purchased Red Giant Renoiser, during their annual sale, and it seems pretty decent but I am fairly new to grain. This is a shot from the Rx100v. It's my first attempt at slog2, but if nothing else I thought the grain from Reniiser added a nice texture... Btw, your company's new feature... Dead Bullet looks great... can't believe it was shot with a gh4.

    How do you grain?

@Zak Forsman and @Bioskop.Inc with your Micro and Pocket footage, respectively, do you guys denoise your footage before your correction/grade and then add the film grain as a title grade over the entire project... or do you just let BM's organic noise add to the grain effect?
  20. Unless you're having financial issues, then why sell the C100ii? You have one of the best, for its cost, cinema cameras out there with insanely good AF. That camera will pay for itself in less than a year by doing an odd job once or twice every couple of months.
  21. I'm unsure of the file sizes but I have seen a couple really nice videos done with the 70D and ml raw... And this one looks really good too... I've been keeping an eye open for a refurbished 70D but Canon never has them in stock.
  22. Pretty awesome, it was both calming and frenetic at the same time, but maybe a little long? At 3.5 minutes with a passage from an old sci-fi book or something from TS Elliott narrating over top of the music and I wouldn't be surprised if this became a Vimeo Staff Pick.
  23. That makes sense, I just don't want to be a DP. I'm a writer that is looking for another outlet to showcase my writing. So, external monitors and a bunch of cables are too much for my sensibility. From reading this site over the past year and a half I learned a ton, and I care about image quality, but for my needs I don't want to be hindered by too much equipment for my skill set or needs. There's a phrase in screenwriting called K.I.S.S. which stands for Keep It Simple Stupid... and when it comes to the technical element that's how I have to approach it. With that being said, I really respect the craft and skill set of so many people on this site and I am obsessed with learning from all of you.
  24. I had the Micro last summer but didn't enjoy rigging it up for the run and gun shooting I like to do, but the image with old Kern c-mounts was amazing. I sold it, then eventually bought a Pocket but I think it was defective because the camera got so hot that it felt like it may melt, so I returned it. A few weeks back I was messing with the footage and it just looked so much better than anything I had shot. I've been practicing my color correcting/grading skills because I was tired of using LUTS and you have to do more to the image, but the latitude is insane... you really have to try really hard to get those files to fall apart.
