That sounds like a great collection. I started collecting some Contax Zeiss, but quickly realized they were a little out of my range for a whole set. And thank god I never got into anamorphic. Which Takumars do you have? I have a few, the 35mm f2, the 24mm f3.5 and a 55mm f2. Awesome lenses. Since I wrote this post, I found a box in the back of my closet full of Olympus FTL lenses. If you're unfamiliar with then, they were a set of mysterious Olympus M42 lenses that were released right before the OM mount was released. I think they were discontinued in less than a year. They were designed with a clickless aperture. Nice little lenses... Damn. In fact the 28mm f3.5 was the first lens I paid a hundred dollars for. At the times I almost crapped my pants, when I saw I won the auction.

Thanks, but I think I am pretty set on the Voigt. I really like the switch that changes the aperture from clickless to clicked. But I need to sell some stuff and do some more research.

It's not necessarily a financial issue as it is a utilitarian issue. Since I only use the same 5 lenses, all within long wide to normal range, then why do I have a brand new Canon FL 135mm f/3.5 sitting in a box collecting dust?

Stupid question... If a color program has a color temperature slider, do you have to slide it to the same temp that you shot with to get the same look as you did in camera, or does it only affect the image if you change it?

Yeah, but you're probably a better photographer than me. But seriously, my collection is getting out of hand. I have lenses that I can't use on any camera. I just want a simple set up and a few lenses. I think if I sell a quarter of my collection, I can raise the capital for a near mint Voigtlander. In the end I'll probably have 10 lenses. I can't let my 28mm f2 Minolta go. And I just picked up a brand new in box Takumar 35mm f2 for 150 bucks. It's yellowed but looks great in b&w. And then there's the Nikkor 28mm f2. But really that's about it. I don't need a lot of focal lengths because I rarely change lenses anyway... I just move. Do you know how the Mitakon 25mm is? Is it even comparable to the Voigt? Yeah it will be awesome paired with the 5-axis IBIS on the GX85. Yeah... That looks amazing. And wide open... Stunning!!! Yup, it's getting ridiculous over here. My closet is filled with boxes full of lenses. I'm up to my eyeballs in silica gel packets and adapters. I sold my NX500 the other day and I wouldn't sell it unless the buyer took all of the adapters. It would have been a deal breaker.

So, is the Red 18-55 your one lens. But yeah it becomes about collecting then more than using them. I find myself doing rando lens tests just to justify their existence.

Not to be depressing, but I got my first camera (a t2i) right before my mother got sick. I didn't have the time to work on any projects, so I wasted time buying lenses... In some ways it was cathartic. Over time I sold some and bought more and better ones and now I have this stockpile of lenses in case the camera apocalypse occurs... Or should I say when...

Yeah, I was looking at those TV Noktons. This was meant to be a fun question, but as I was going through my gear, I thought... Why do I have all of these lenses? I do plan on making a short, or maybe even a no budget feature one day, but it's really just a hobby for me. Right now I have a ton of decent vintage lenses, but I usually only use the same 3 and they are all in the normal range in FF terms. If I thought about this yesterday, I would need 30 of my 50 lenses... Now I'm thinking 5 or 10 should do and I should get one really good lens... So I've been looking at a bunch of videos from the 25mm Voigtlander... Damn that's a nice lens.

Good idea, the G7 is awesome. But be warned, after a few weeks with the G7, you may be eyeing the GH5 instead of the 5DIV. Just sayin...

I just sold my nx500. I was kinda sad to see it go, but I haven't used it since I picked up the G7. But I think I am going to get the GX85 for the 5-axis IBIS.

So, I decided on the stand alone version. Even though the plug in seemed to make more sense, I just couldn't stand the sluggish workflow. Thanks for everyone's input. I learned a lot.

Interesting, I have only messed with test grades and haven't graded a finished project yet, but I know with Color Finale you can do a title grade (I forget what they call it) where you drag a Color Finale Title over top of your scene or your sequence and can do a finishing grade.

The trial version has the ability to import XML files/timelines, but I never messed with them before. The plug in version does sound like the easier way... But the stand alone interface is so much nicer. I guess I'll test the plug in again before I make up my mind. Thanks. To be honest your GM1 video is what made me give it another look... and the sale. I'm so used to the waveforms and the curves in Color Finale, but FilmConvert does seem to have everything I would need. Do you change the histogram range at all? I barely know how to use a 4K camera... Let alone a screen.

As you guys probably already know, FilmConvert is having their annual NAB 25% off sale. That with Noam Kroll discount is a whopping 35% off regular price. I have had the trial plug in version in FCPX for about 6 months but due to my small screen, the Color Correction tool isn't easy on the eyes. And my slow computer brings FCPX to a crawl. But when I heard about the deep discount, I decided to give the Stand Alone version a try and I must say I really do enjoy it. With a neutralizing LUT applied during transcoding, I was able to bring the unedited, prores footage right into FilmConvert. With some quick and easy tweaks, I was able to get some very nice results. This one is the ungraded 4K image, from the Panny FZ300 that I converted to 1080p prores with EditReady... And here it is again with just a few tweaks with FilmConvert... Anyway, I really do like the program and was wondering if other users have the Stand Alone version, or the Plug In? If you use the Stand Alone, what workflow do you use... edit in NLE... correct and grade in FilmConvert?

Yeah, I assume it's like LUTx, all of your LUTS are stored in a gallery format and when you go to select one you can swipe through the image to see the original image and the image with the LUT attached. It's a nice feature. On LUTx, you can actually swipe the FCPX viewer as well to see the original. I don't know if you have tested LUTx yet, but it's a pretty nice plug in. This and the ability to adjust the highs, mids and lows, independently, is another amazing feature. But in my computer the plug in is too power intensive and slows down FCPX. Hopefully, Mr. Riddle will implement both of these features into Color Finale, because it is a much better plug in overall.

Yes, but they also make it sound like you don't need the power module unless you want to use two batteries. It seems like intentional vagueness.

This is cool, but the more I think about it, it kinda pisses me off! Their whole strategy is mandatory up-selling. If they implemented an SD slot into the HD module and a record tone so I could synch my audio, then it could be an amazing way for me to grow into a system. Also, is the handle needed to record internally? If so, that's some bs too.

It looks cool and could be a winner. Obviously, there are a few issues... 1. This is just a computer render... Not a big deal, but they probably don't even have a prototype yet, so their deadline is VERY ambitious. 2. The modularity helps to keep the cost down, but most are needed and if not needed all the time, who will ever lighten their load since the multitude of electrical contacts create a lot of situations for damage. Basic SD storage should be made available for the S16 sensor model, so the additional module isn't necessary... For smaller budget projects and to compete with the BMPCC/BMMCC. 3. The audio module should be an add on for external microphones only. The video and website literature makes no mention of onboard microphone. So, without an onboard microphone you are really forced to buy the audio module even if you intend to synch double sound. 4. Why aren't they at NAB? It is expensive to attend a trade show, but the amount of press and investment opportunities outweigh the costs. So, I would be very interested in this if they worked out a 4th configuration between the action model and the HD model, or updated their HD module to include basic SD recording and an onboard microphone. But it's still early so who knows what may happen.
