I don't necessarily need CineLikeD but I also don't like the idea of not having it in case I want to use it. It's not like we're buying a $200 camera. For $800, there's no reason it not being there... Especially since it's probably equivalent to flipping a switch to include it.
-
Yes, CineLikeD is not actually a log profile, but it is often described as being log-like... I knew what Sanveer meant.
-
Yeah, the Shure sounds like a great mic/recorder and it seems like it would be great for foley, but I don't think it's exactly what I'm looking for as a possible audio solution for the GX85. Yeah, I think Martin Wallgren must have a pretty good relationship with Panasonic because he has tested preproduction models for the FZ300, the GX85 and I think maybe the GX8. In fact, his video with the FZ300... ... Helped me decide to buy one. I am really surprised that they included CineLikeD on the FZ300, but it won't be available with the GX85. As I tried to say in my last post, but wrote it in too much of a hurry... Even though I know I can get a cleaner image, with better skin tones with the Natural profile, there is just something I like about CineLikeD. And this is my dilemma. I would love to keep both the G7 and the GX85 (if I get it) but I'm not sure I can afford to have both and I'm not sure I would want an interchangeable lens, Panasonic camera without the CineLikeD profile. Decisions, decisions.

Do you think the Shute is worth the $300 price tag? It's funny, with the G7, I know I can get a cleaner image, with better skin tones but there is just something I like about CineLikeD. The video of showing the ibis is by Martin Wallgren and he seems to get a lot of Panny's preproduction cameras. I follow him on Vimeo and he seems to be a fan of CineLikeD, so hopefully he'll recommend they include it. If not Natural dialed down does have some nice mojo to it.

Well, if you go with the ef speedbooster, then the sky is the limit, just get a dummy adapter for Nikon to ef or m42 to ef or Olympus to ef or yashica to ef... Etc...
-
Minolta lenses are excellent, just be careful with 35-70mm... The rear mount can hit the glass on certain speed boosters.

I am very happy you have not encountered such issues with your FD lenses. While I was building my set, nearly every other lens, I purchased, had this hazing/condensation problem that richg described. The OP asked people's opinion on certain lenses. I am giving mine based on my experiences. If he chooses to listen to my opinion, that is entirely up to him. Sorry, obviously not technically correct, but to me... Cleaning the inside of the front element is equivalent to having to clean the inner elements.
-
Haze is caused by broken down glue. Different lens manufacturers use different glues... I suspect that is the culprit.
-
How closely do you inspect your lenses? I wasn't too worried about it either until I learned how to inspect the inside of lenses. Most of the obvious gunk you will find is harmless dust that will never affect your IQ, but the horrors hang out around the edges of the elements. But yes, maybe it's just bad luck.
-
I can only speak of my own experiences and every other FD lens I ever bought had a light, misty haze around the edge of an inner element. But even with the haze, they were great lenses.

It does not have CinelikeD, but it does have Natural, as always. I don't know, it seems like most of the usual Panasonic picture profiles can be tweaked to look like the others anyway. For instance, I noticed with the G7, if you take CineLikeV and lower the contrast to -5, it's basically CineLikeD. Since most people prefer Natural anyway, I am not too worried about it. That's true. I was always interested in that Shure. The reviews seem a little mixed with it though. How have your experiences been? I like the idea of the Little Darling because it is made as a small lavalier recorder, so, since it is so small, it can serve a double duty.

You would honestly do well with most of the suggestions. If it's a set of lenses you hope to use in the future with any other camera, I would go the Nikon Nikkor route. They also have the quickest and easiest resale. If you're looking for great lenses that you can grow into, I'd go the Contax Zeiss route. I like FD lenses, but they seem to be prone to haze. I had a set and every one I bought had a small ring of light haze on one of the inner elements. When it came time to lighten my collection, they were the first to go. Minolta lenses are amazing, well built, characteristic consistency throughout the range, but the wider angles are a little pricy and they are hard to sell. I have had a Minolta MD 28mm f2 up on eBay for 2 months now with barely any views. But if you have zero plans of selling them, they are beautiful lenses with buttery smooth focus rings. Renaissance man is right about the 35mm 1.8, it is absolutely one of the best lenses I have ever used with the creamiest of bokeh. Also the 50mm f1.4 is just gorgeous and sharp.

How much do you want to spend? And how fast do you want the lenses to be after being speed boosted?
-
Actually he said it has cleaner noise in the shadows than the Alexa.

No worries. My main interest in this camera is its small footprint. With C-Mount lenses, or my Sigma 19mm and 30mm f2.8 lenses, and 5-Axis IBIS, I see this camera, for me, as being the ultimate run & gun tool. With an L-Bracket with the new JuicedLink Little Darling recorder and a Rode Micro, this can become a one man band package for guerilla filmmaking.
-
It's actually not off topic, in an earlier post I stated that I would be excited to use my Canon 12.5mm TV lens with 5-Axis IBIS on the GX85. I stated that that lens covered the m43 sensor in 4K. Panny asked to see proof. Is lens choice, with the GX85, not a relevant discussion?
-
Hey Panny, I actually did have a video on Vimeo. This is my first day with the G7, and it's ungraded, so bear with me. But between 1:41 to 2:22 you can see some shots with the Canon 12.5mm TV lens. Actually I have had my G7 and my FZ300 stop recording with both Transcend UHS-1 Class 3 and with Sony. The Transcend had write speeds of 60MB and the Sony had write speeds of 50MB. I finally bit the bullet and bought the 95 MB Sandisk Pro.

Hey Marty, yup it fully covers it and it's IQ is amazing. I do have some footage confirming it, I'll post something tomorrow when I'm at my computer.
-
Yeah the DPReview "Mighty but small," review touches on it a bit. And yes it uses the 4K image to do this for 1080p.
-
Every manual says that.
-
Hopefully their track record will continue. But since this is the first camera to offer 4K with 5-Axis IBIS in such a small form factor, I feel concern is duly noted.
-
@sanveer "2. The Olympus is unable to handle anything more than 1080p, for many reasons. The Panasonic does 4k, but it will overheat (I read it in one of the forums, though I think they read the literature on the Sony, than the Panasonic, since how can the Panasonic literature come out, before the camera does). I am guessing it may have a 30 min limit, also to do with overheating (I hope I am wrong). But, I doubt it will be anywhere near the unbelievably low shoot timings in the a6300 or others." This is my biggest concern. I am ready to buy this camera once there is some confirmation on overheating. If it can last 30 minutes, then my short takes won't be an issue. I have been shooting a little 5-axis with the FZ300 in 1080p mode and it gets warm but not hot. Hopefully, the GX85 4K will fare as well.
-
Yeah I am really surprised how every manufacturer is more interested in 8 bit 4K rather than 10 bit 1080 or 2.5k. BlackMagic solely owns the low budget cinema camera market. It amazes me that Panasonic or Sony hasn't introduced a natural competitor to the pocket with 10 bit.
-
Panasonic makes this so confusing, but everything I have read so far indicates that it is 5-Axis without the OIS lens. Yeah. It looks great. I think it's worth getting now. With it's size, it can be a b-cam or a crash cam once the GH5 comes out.

How is it old news, it was just released? But either way, I like Color Finale too. They work great together. LUTx has a better LUT preview function.
