Hey Ren, didn't you say you use Natural profile? Do you dial everything down, except saturation?
-
are you still looking at the milvus?

I recently picked up the 50mm 1.7 and it is a nice piece of glass. I hope you enjoy yours!!!

The first draft of Goodwill Hunting was a spy thriller. It carried the same theme within a different genre. Maybe you should rewrite the script a little and make it a comedy. Satire could probably really help your theme resonate more.

When you first started talking about this film and showing tests, I thought I remember you saying this was for the Sanders campaign. A lot of my criticisms were based on that memory. It now seems that it is a piece about personal thought hid under the guise of the presidential election. I am confused by the piece because I am unsure what message you intend the viewer to take from it? Is it merely a piece that shows how the average person may come to a decision, or are you trying to promote Sanders? I feel you are successful with the former, but the latter needs a little cleaning. All of your thoughts and ideas are justified... Even the Jew line... Obviously not politically correct but definitely something to consider... A Jewish Socialist running for President may very well be unelectable. Or may be his electable? I don't know. I do know this is an interesting piece where you have to walk a thin line for whatever your intended message is. Just my opinion.

Just go to the forum and post a link. Ask for their thoughts. As you can tell from this thread... People love to give their opinions. I have one more suggestion. Ditch the Trump will destroy the planet and she doesn't want to live on Mars lines. It is so hyperbolic that I feel it makes her look stupid and depletes your message. Unless your motive is that people who support Sanders are dimwits?

And here's a minor quibble that is barely worth mentioning, a part of me wishes the girl would smile when she made her decision. Or at least look content. I think she needs anti-depressants.
-
So, I guess I'll be the voice of dissension, the first version was better. I liked the grade and the subtitles way better. The distraction of the subtitles worked with her character's thoughts being all over the place.
-
I think you are misunderstanding me. In Ed's piece, the girl thinks, at least 3 times, that Bernie Sanders is unelectable. So he is using the rule of 3 against his own thesis.
-
It's psychology. A person remembers things more when they are told 3 times. So, by conveying 3 times or more that Bernie Sanders is unelectable, then there is a good chance the audience will remember that assertion more than a positive about Bernie Sanders.

Love the top picture.

I'm afraid you are taking this too literally. This IS a fictional character we're discussing... Right? I doubt Ed's objective is to send a message that this woman seems flighty and uninformed. Not to mention, I believe this piece is supposed to be pro Sanders, yet on at least 3 occasions, the character thought... "Bernie Sanders is unelectable." In screenwriting there is a Rule of 3, if you want to transfer an important story detail to your audience, you show or tell something at least 3 times. So, unfortunately, what I took from this piece is... A woman, who seems undecided and uninformed believes Bernie Sanders is unelectable but she will vote for him anyway because he is the best of the worst. It just is not a very strong message in my opinion. But this is just my opinion. The footage is great and the idea is very clever. I'm sure the intended audience will go bonkers over it.

I don't think you can use the sigma art with the 5d, I think they're made for aps-c sensors not full frame. I would think your Nikkors would be great for the 5D.
-
You're right, I should have written... Uninformed, undecided voters shouldn't be allowed to vote.
-
I like the look of it. It has that gritty, Hell's Kitchen, 70s NYC feel to it. It strangely felt like the opening credits to The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The content, I could not care less about. If anything, it unintentionally promotes the notion that undecided voters should not be allowed to vote. But it was well shot and the premise was good.
-
Well, how are your tests looking thus far?
-
idk. I hope all of this customization works out for you. But I think you may be overcomplicating and spending for what you will end up with. Have you seen the results Zak Forsman, Lintel and Squig have been getting with the BMPCC? For the amount of time and money you have spent, you could have a fully rigged pocket cam and a few shorts in the can by now.

Looks great. IMO, it is some of the best stuff from your new set up. Nice shot. Is that a grab or a still? I love those old Taks. I picked up a 35mm f2 yesterday. Can't wait for it to arrive. Actually, I bought 2 yesterday. The first one was a great price, the second one was just cheap... Stupid cheap. I'll keep one and sell the other. Cha ching. I've been obsessed with M42 lenses lately, which is ironic because when I first started shooting, all I could afford were M42 lenses. I've sold most of them since then and now I find myself buying them up again.
-
Did you sell all your FD lenses? What will you have to shoot with in the mean time?
-
Totally see that. Smart move to have your actor dressed in all black too... Which is spectacularly inky. I didn't realize how much the blacks could be pushed with the pocket. Is it an inside joke that your alter ego actor gets the shit kicked out of him in most of your films?
-
By no means am I an expert in Zeiss lenses, but if you want to get your feet wet, for a modest price, then get the 50mm f/1.7 Planar. If you want to dive head first, and use a little of your kid's college fund, then go with the 28mm f/2 Distagon.
-
That's a great price for that lens!!! Looks like you got a nice sample too. It really softens up that NX1 sensor nicely. I have a small set of FL lenses, I actually like their character more than the FDs. My favorite one being the 35mm f/3.5... I have the older model with the rubber focus grip.

So, you're getting a sharper image because the disc is essentially the opening of a 3.2 on the short side, but on the long sides it is nearly wide open for the speed and shallow depth... Brilliant. Any plans to make a budget line using Takumars? Hell, how about adapters that can use the oval discs? M42 to micro 4/3rds... I'd pay for one of those.
-
Haha, I think I recognize him from some of your other work... I meant to ask you before if that was you or you were brothers or some shit. Anyway, the bmpcc has a 2.88 X crop factor, right? That Trump should look nice at that longer length. Are you guys shooting your next feature with the pocket or the micro?
