  1. Oliver, that looks great! Nice job!!! It's very cool to see what that camera can do in a professional environment. Are you a touch regretful for selling it?
  2. I hope this doesn't turn into some notion that Nikon is just going to put out the NX2.
  3. Over at Nikon rumors, there has already been plenty of talk about a FF mirrorless. According to their sources, it will have the F mount. It will not be available until late 2016, so most likely it will have the Samsung tech. Or from this point on the Nikon tech. http://nikonrumors.com/2015/04/20/new-nikon-full-frame-mirrorless-camera-on-the-horizon.aspx/ I'm hoping Andrew will do another one of his famous comparison videos. This time between the NX1 color and D750 color. Because that will be the next debate... Which color science will the new Nikons have?
  4. I understand that, but Samsung has a very small lens line up comparatively, why would Nikon change the tradition of their lenses because Samsung has some good sensor tech and heat dissipation technology? I can't imagine that this tech is only usable for mirrorless cameras? Why would Nikon abandon decades upon decades for the NX mount? It makes no sense. Loyal Nikon customers and your average everyday consumer do not want to be bothered with an adapter. IMO.
  5. I really don't see why Nikon would keep the NX mount when they have a half century history with treasured Nikkor glass. In the 70s and 80s when Canon, Olympus, Pentax, etc changed their mounts, Nikon designed their cameras around their lenses. Not to mention, think about how much of a boost their lens division will get by the onslaught of new customers.
  6. Not if you look at market segment and who the tech is for. If it is for the consumer who bought a 4K television, then you are limiting your sales to people who buy Samsung televisions. Or is it for enthusiasts? I really don't know what Nikons plans are for the Samsung tech.
  7. Very good points. This tech will really propel Nikon, if the rumor is true, to the next level. However, I wouldn't expect a Nikon NX2. If true, Nikon acquired the tech for Nikon products, not to rebadge Samsung products. I don't know if I would even expect Nikon continues with h.265. For all we know they may be acquiring the tech for their J line.
  8. Unless Nikon has no plans to introduce a new camera with the "newly acquired" Samsung tech until next year, then I would assume they are only sourcing the sensor. It takes time to implement this technology into their current facilities and design.

    G7 Settings?

Last week I was able to pick up the G7 on sale, and I know a few others had as well, so I was just wondering what settings people were using. With my limited time with it, I have mostly used Cinelike D, with everything turned down. Here are a few grabs from my first outing:
  10. You liked the pocket that much? Nice. Look at it this way, you can do a two cam shoot and only need to pay the actors for half the time.
  11. I like the exterior shots, the look reminds me of the cinematography in this season of Fargo.
  12. It really handles the contrast well. The shot of your formal living room/ parlor was breathtaking. I felt like I was watching an old movie. Would love to see a Hitchcockian scene/film shot with that camera. Please, keep us updated.
  13. I am not a photographer, and barely a videographer, but maybe it would be a better idea, since the majority of your work is photography based, to get a D750 for stills, and a separate camera for video (maybe a RX10ii) Sell off your lenses and slowly build a good set of Nikkors and Sigma Art lenses.
  14. Really nice. I love B&W. My favorite part of my NX500 is 4K downscaled to 1080p black and white. Without a doubt it looks better than any other "look." Is the 1080p downscaled from a 4K or 6k sensor?

    Lenses

Has anyone used the Mitakon 35mm f2?
  16. Good point, but what cinched the deal was the ability to use c-mount lenses with it. I got the camera today, only had a few minutes to mess with it, but the conversion was twice as quick as the nx500, which is precisely what I was looking for and the image quality is beautiful. Also, I really want a camera with a mic input for this web series. For some reason though, the cinelike profiles are greyed out, I probably have to enable something to have access to them. I used the kit lens and it actually isn't that bad, but I will probably sell it to bring the cost down even further. Sorry, that response was all over the place. I'm exhausted from Thanksgiving festivities.
  17. Interesting, I had tested lowering the saturation in the past and I had found that anything below -5 fell apart, but that was before I realized contrast should be set to default. So maybe, will definitely mess with this. I haven't tweaked the hue yet either, definitely trying this. Do you have any grabs?
  18. Sorry if I missed this, but what lens did you use here?
  19. Relocation of eoshd? Never mind, I read the whole post. What will be your go to camera?
  20. Slow motion tongue lady supersedes any negative critiques of iq.
  21. Thanks, but if you isolate skin tones, do you do that as a second or third layer, or do you do that first?
  22. I think entering it into a 1080p timeline will crop it even further. With EditReady, for a 30 second clip, it takes about 3 to 5 minutes to convert it to 1080p.
  23. Haha, I got it from B&H... Sorry Ed. But still... Eff them too... Happy Thanksgiving... Haha.
  24. Oh yeah, it definitely is, but the time transcoding it to 1080p. The web series, I have in mind is designed to be a quick shoot, edit and turn around. Doesn't matter anyway, because I bought the G7, should be here tomorrow. Shit, now I have to sell some stuff. Anybody need any lenses?
  25. That looks great Ed. First off I just want to say... the location is great... I'm a cabinet maker by trade, so I love that your studio space is an authentic garage workshop. Very cool. I am very new to all of this and recently, I have been attempting to correct and grade footage. Mostly poorly, but what I have been doing is adjusting my highs, mids and lows using the curves in Color Finale and then using a finishing LUT, usually a Fuji rec709 or an M31, and I have been getting some decent results. I've also had pretty good results using a 3 strip cube, then adjusting my curves, and adding a Fuji rec709 LUT at 50% as a delivery LUT. Would love your thoughts and any tips. Btw, Happy Thanksgiving!!!
