I hate, absolutely hate sound, this microphone seems like it will take away some of the chore out audio work. The in camera recording sounded pretty damn usable to me, for run and gun work and then the wav recording is just icing on the cake... Or vice versa. Thanks again for posting this thread. I never would have found this mic without it.

Thanks, liork. I thought I had read that somewhere. I must assume ETC mode doesn't shoot 4K? I have a couple nice c mount lenses I would love to use.
-
Yeah, I am really temtpted by this camera. I have never owned a 4/3rds camera though, so my questions are all lens based. I know they have a 2X crop factor, but does that 2X hold true for 4K? I use all vintage glass, on an aps-c, the crop factor puts my lenses in decent ranges, with 4/3rds, it changes everything a little, but I guess you get even less edge distortion. Of course speedboosters are always an option. Ugh. Decisions, decisions...

Thanks Sanveer, I saw this in my google search, but for some reason I couldn't get it to play. It played fine embedded here. This was definitely helpful. The dual recording function is ingenious. I always preferred in camera audio, for ease, and in this scenario, you seem to get the best of both worlds. And the quality sounds pretty damn good. Do you use similar settings? I only wish he followed his own advice in the test and had his camera set at manual. Anyway, thanks again. Now I just have to wait for a deal, I was pretty convinced I was going to get the MKE-400 until you posted about this little monster. If I could get this for the Sennheiser money, I would be a happy filmmaker.

If they offer a body only for $699 or less, this will probably be my next camera. I would love to be able to score this and the FZ1000 for less than $1200.
-
If Canon was more supportive of the mirrorless, I would love to see them put out a 2K, or 4K version.

I just edited a little lens test of my eos-m and Minolta mc 35mm 1.8. That truly is a great camera for the under 200 dollar price tag, I paid for it and with Minolta mc's... Just spectacular.

Not to be too contrarian, but I think the new Colorista uses a new GUI, but I am going to invest in FCX in a few months, so I will probably just use that. Thanks again.

Canon S100 is fantastic. Easy to use, 24p, built in ND filter, customizable flat profile. And cheap. You can pick one up for less than $200.
-
Cool, thanks guys. Out of curiosity, what is bad about Colorista? It looks pretty straight forward and it's relatively inexpensive. Is FilmConvert just a color grader, or is there color correction tools as well?
-
It sounds like the G7 and the FZ1000 could be a great low budget A and B camera set up.
-
How is Colorista for FCX?

For all we know the writing on the wall could have been added in post, but if anything, I think it's suggestive symbolism.
-
Sanveer, that's great, thanks!!!

After more thought, I am torn... This movie is essentially one big car chase. Under most circumstances, a movie like this would suck, but the style and direction put into the film elevates it. Is it a good movie... Not sure. Is it a great action sequence spread out across 2 hours... Definitely!!!
-
Good point. As I said, I enjoyed the movie for what it was... A stylized action flick created by a good filmmaker. And in some ways that is where it's brilliance lies. But it was smart to create just enough symbolic imagery and art direction, to create fodder for blogs.
-
But it's an interesting theory and quite smart of Miller to create the possibility for post movie diner talk.
-
Interesting theory but I think he may be overanalyzing. Honestly, I don't remember a part in the movie when it is confirmed that this world is the outcome of nuclear war, which his theory hinges upon. But, I thought his name was Immortal Joe, so I could be totally off base. Call me crazy but I don't think there is much depth to the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it as an action movie but I think any symbolism was pretty surface level. Obviously the ozone layer has been depleted and the trees all died making the oxygen level unhealthy. And obviously Joe purified the gene pool too quickly, creating this race of cave people with genetic defects. The son, who rode with him was normal, all of his other children had defects, except for the unborn child, who was... Possibly... Born beautiful. Beauty was the dying commodity.

Sanveer, do you have any links to samples with Shure. I have been reading a little about it and heard a few tests but none of them really show it's potential? I would love to hear a clip plugged into a dslr, plus the same recording using it's internal recorder? Do you have anything like that?

The Story of Luggage... or... how NOT to make a movie!
mercer replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
I would say one of the smartest things you did, was to make lemonade. By making new trailers/teasers as you progressed was a spot on move. -
I'd stick with fcx and substitute motion for after effects.
-
Saw a private 3D screening of it the other day... Pretty good action flick. It was funny at times and visually mesmerizing at other times. And sometimes it just moved from one car chase scene to the next with little islands of just enough story to keep it intriguing. Really not much to say.

The Story of Luggage... or... how NOT to make a movie!
mercer replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
Jonesy, great story. It makes me want to go make a movie, or bang my head against the wall... Sometimes both are equally fulfilling... What picture profile did you use? I assume neutral or prolost neutral? Don't fret man, I predict this will do well. From the trailer alone, I can see the talent. Just plan your festival strategy, or get some names of distributors and this should be an easy sell. You also have one of the hottest Asian women I have ever seen in your film... So that never hurts. -
What would a lens test be without an annoyed and ambivalent pet... I use my cats, but even they can be as demanding as any actor. Good news is the 25mm works beautifully. Really nice as always.
