  1. Interesting. It seems like you really don’t need to overexpose F-Log to get a clean image at base ISO... hmm. If that was sLog2, it would have been a noisy mess. How accurate is the Kelvin WB? Any shifts needed?
  2. Yeah, I highly doubt it’s going to get 10bit Raw internal... with what container? I mean, it doesn’t even do 10bit internal now with h.264. Plus I don’t know how great 10bit Raw would be anyway. It sounds like a storage hound without the true benefits of a Raw image. With that being said... God I hope it does. If anything will get me RawLite in a future Canon DSLR/MILC, it will be Nikon giving internal Raw on a $2000 camera. And if it doesn’t kick Canon in the ass, Nikon Flat is one of my favorite picture profiles, so I’ll happily get a Z6/NinjaV for ProRes Raw... any news on when that update is coming?
  3. This topic intrigues me. One of the reasons I switched to Raw was due to the texture of skin, tree bark, etc... With that being said, have you tested an external recorder with the X-T3? I realize that theoretically it shouldn’t matter but better bitrate and less compression of ProRes could help... especially since I didn’t notice the waxy skin with the professional short films that Fuji released. Have you tried using Midtone Detail to combat it? The X-T3 is on my short list as a hybrid but this waxy skin issue is a cause for concern. In the end though, if you’re shooting narratives, you’re better off shooting Raw at this level anyway and shooting with a dedicated cinema camera. I love that Hollywood are starting to use hybrid cameras like the a7sii to shoot The Possession of Hannah Grace but they have the budget to counteract the pitfalls that is non existent in no budget features. I liked what you did with your GH5 feature, how was the skin texture with that camera in post? I know Zak Forsman is shooting BTS footage for Hollywood films with a GH5s, so I assume that camera is pretty clean.
  4. Phase detect takes processing power, which generates heat.
  5. To add to what @Michi just wrote... after spending some years reading this site, I think the most logical approach for many forum users here is to go and buy a cinema camera and use the right tool for the job.
  6. I’m not that optimistic either, but the EOS-R, with its faults, surprised me with some of the features. We’ll know more soon enough. And we’ll probably be let down until we see real world samples and everyone goes... hmm... that does look pretty good. If it sucks, protest with your wallet.
  7. The discussion was in regards to B-Raw? But even their current Raw offerings, I assume most people are shooting 3:1 Raw and not full Raw? Btw, I don’t know if this has been asked but since you’re the noise artifact guy, have you noticed any difference with 1080p ProRes on the P4K? It’s an internal downscale, right? So the noise artifacts should be lessened?
  8. At the end of the day, IQ is all that matters and I can’t say that the EOS-R has the worst IQ of any camera released last year. I like the image from the Z6 but I think the EOS-R has it beat... same with the a7iii. In fact, I’d say the X-T3 is the only image that rivals it for pure IQ from last year’s options... not including P4K.
  9. The beefy all-i codec is a must have for me going forward.
  10. Interesting analysis. The way I see it, Canon released their 2 cameras, like Nikon and Panasonic did, just not on the same day. But instead of catering to the professional market with one model and the semi pro with the second model, Canon went semi pro with the R and the enthusiast with the RP. Obviously, it’s way too early to tell, but the RP could be the “video” model in the same way the Z6 is the video model for Nikon. The real question for me is... does Canon give us Canon Log in the RP? If history tells us anything, then NO. If Canon is following what their competitors are doing, then it should be a resounding YES! But most likely Canon Log will only be available for export, if available at all. That’s not a deal breaker since there are so many picture profiles available for Canon cameras. I’ve said in the past that I think Canon built a lens system first and threw a camera together to introduce that system. Whereas Nikon built the camera system first. Also remember that even though the EOS-R is a new model, it was still last year’s model.
  11. Yeah, this is pretty uninspired. Other than the 4K 60p and no crop, the EOS-R is more interesting. Boring.
  12. I guess that’s the question... is a camera even considered released if only 100 of the thousands of preorders are filled?
  13. RE: comparison test... IMO this test should be performed outdoors where the BMPCC shines. Also, the test should include IR Cut filtration... with and without. I have noticed what appears to be IR contamination in P4K footage and others online have thought so too, but the believers adamantly fight against its existence. I’m very curious to know if I ever get my hands on one, if I’ll need an IR Cut Filter. Another question with the P4K compared to the OG is that the P4K does not handle highlights as well... so a test shot showing highlight rolloff would be excellent.
  14. There are plenty of things I should have never done.
  15. The rest of your reply has valid points but I’m not sure I agree with this last bit. To this day, when I am out and about, and I see people with interchangeable lens cameras, 9 out of 10 times they are DSLRs and I love smack dab in the middle between NYC and Philly so I do see a lot of tourists in my travels. DSLR sales may be dwindling but I don’t believe there is any proof, that I have heard of or saw, that mirrorless is picking up the slack. But I may be wrong, just an observation.
  16. The bottom of the the Slik quick release is a 1/4-20 tripod hole. The cage has both 1/4-20 and 3/8ths holes, so I used a 1/4-20 screw through one of the 3/8ths holes. Of course if I was doing that now, I would probably just buy the SmallRig Monitor attachment because it is hinged and I could just fold the monitor down for storage in my bag.
  17. Canon’s IS Lenses are pretty damn good handheld... the 35mm f/2 hasn’t failed me yet.
  18. Well Canon isn’t closing their doors anytime soon. They’re still the biggest camera manufacturer in the world and they won’t lose that title overnight.
  19. Honestly, this whole statement seems odd to me. Why would they invest so much R&D into the RF line only to stop producing cameras? I think what you are seeing is the beginning of their camera line consolidation that has been rumored for awhile now. They will not continue with so many lower end consumer models while still investing and producing the mid tier and pro models. Personally, I think the RF Mount was a dumb move and they should have stuck with EF. They could have introduced some great primes and internal mechanisms that would have benefitted all of their current lenses. As is, these new filter adapters (which are really cool) only benefit the EF Mount or lenses adapted to EF... so their main camera mount cannot benefit from it... it makes no sense.
  20. Did you buy a C200 or rent it?
  21. And never put a lens infested with fungus on your camera... it can spread to your sensor.
  22. Yeah I would definitely be interested in the X-T30 if they give us some of the higher end video features of the X-T3. How about 10bit up to 30p and 1080p up to 60p, all-I. That would just be enough for me to save the few extra bucks since it will be my glove box hybrid. For me, anything less and I may as well wait 6 months and get the X-T3 for $1200 or less. Now I agree, IBIS would be a genius move and may indicate that they intend on combining the XH and X-T... lines.

    Lenses

Correction... it seems he IS shooting 1080p on the a6300 and still with only one lens. He shot this with the Sony 20mm in 1080p sLog2... it’s pretty detailed, I thought the 1080p on the a6300/a6500 was supposed to suck? This one I quite liked as well. I assume he used the same lens... I still prefer his T2i work but I must say... the guy is talented.
