I think Canon is acting pretentious, it reminds me a lot of Nokia. In the early 2000's/late 90's it was unthinkable buying a phone that wasnt Nokia, every other phone was "crap", so they kept doing the same thing, phones barely upgraded between generations and in a very short period of time, Iphones came and smartphones....and no Nokia has 1-3% market share. Canon is getting left behind, and when they decide "its time to move" it may be too late, because you need time for try and error, and they will loose so much ground (I suspect by this time, next year, they will have lost probably 50%). The rebel line is good enough for beginners/enthusiasts, but even that market is getting shadowed by the uprising of Iphones and other samsungs. IMO they deserve everything that its coming, they spend most of their time crippling their own equipment so that they can protect their overpriced cinema line. *I upgraded to the NX1 about 2 months ago, and even though im still getting used to it, I dont consider going back to a dslr. Might get an a7 or a7s if the price is right (around 500-700€ thats what im willing to spend).

Yup, works the same here, dont really know why it does this, but I think its like that in every camera..
-
As suspected, price is quite high, 599$ isnt the same as 739€ + Shipping, this defeats the purpose of getting it, since we pay almost +50% for it.
-
Ahh, didnt know that, if that so, then it does look incredible.
-
Looks verymuch like 8mm film, weird colors, and no bokeh at all, but that can be due to the lens.
-
This was a great watch, Im glad to see that most of the transition effects, he has done them in camera, instead of in post.
-
I would love to order one, but where can I order one from Europe ? It seems you only have them available in the US, and even with the free DHL shipping, wouldnt I have to pay tax and customs ? that would increase the price by almost 200€, which is quite a lot.
-
I had seen that yesterday, it does seem like a good choice. I have a question though, how can I focus with one of these ? doesnt it wobble if I touch the lens ? can I add a follow focus or something ?
-
I've been seriously considering buying one of these light gimbals, they would come really handy, since I spend so much time stabilizing in post, which destroys the quality of the image, and is very time consuming. The problem is, I already know 4 or 5 models of these, and getting more and more confused.

The NX1 video frames do look a lot like still photographs, heres a few shots I took from 4k video - http://imgur.com/a/CCBXl - it is so outstanding how sharp the image is (please note this image has grading, still WIP, but its not raw image). What I've realised too is, the camera handles bokeh differently between 4k video and 1080p video (or even photography), making it look like FF almost when in 4k. You can make the footage look as filmic or digital as you want. **The reason why theres very few actual good footage of the NX1 is due to the marketing structure. Many people bought it and use the kit lens and are amazed at the "out of focus background", this is a pro-sumer camera, that was marketed as a "bigger" higher end point n' shoot, besides its a very very new camera and system, very ew people actually risk going for it, considering lens selection and completely new system. Let me share with you a few great examples of how amazing this camera is :

Of course a feature film with this style would be nauseating, but for smaller videos, it indeed an incredible style

Im reading this, very very helpfull, thanks a lot This sort of thing is exacly what I wanna know, since im "amazed" by this sort of thing, I just want to understand how its done, and maybe try it myself.
-
I wasnt refering to the individual techniques he used (such as hyperlapse), but the actual "stiching", the transitions, he seems to use fast blur with sideways/up&down transitions, and masks, speed ups/downs. I do realise this style cant be used for everything, but for some stuff it really makes it look "magical".
-
So, I discovered this video, and I find this incredible...the way its edited, the shots, everything is top notch...of course I want to know more about it, and how its done... Is this a thing ? A particular style ? does it have a name ? where can I find more like it ?

GH4 has much lower detail than the NX1. I agree with you though, the Canon colors are great, but I find the NX1 very very versatile, its easy to grade and look great, however, you need decent lenses...most of the footage I see are shot with the kit lens, this is probably due to the bad marketing, and with the kit lens, it makes the camera look close to what an Iphone @ 4k looks like. Pair it with decent lenses, and you have an amazing camera, that can look filmic or not, depending on what your needs are.

The Nx1 is an incredible piece of tech, an incredible camera (I keep telling this to everyone), its the most underated piece of gear in ages. I did think the a7rII would come close to it though, surprised to see its so far behind, this just confirms my opinion, the NX1 is the best 4k (and video) camera around up until the tens of thousands in price, and even then, it compares quite close. Great test btw !

I bought the NX1 a little over 2 months now, I think. I too had to send it over from Italy (I live in Portugal and it wasnt released here). I believe the Nx1 is probably the best tool for film making for the pricetag, up until the a7s2 or a7r2, the image coming out of it is indeed incredible, and feature wise, it superior to the NX500 (which has a crop of 2 I believe ?!), using the NX500 as a B camera is great, but as a main camera, I wouldnt suggest. Go for the NX1 or RX100IV.

All the footage, apart from some night scenes in NY streets, look awfull, really terrible, so I think Ill just ignore all of this and wait for better reviews.

Thank you so much ! I do think its the best thing anyone can do, and should do, specially when starting. Having a limitation, glasswise, will make you feel comfortable while shooting, you'll become so used to it that eventually you'll just know exacly what you're gonna get without looking through the viewfinder. On these types of job, what I like to do is just walk around, quick 5 second clips, get lots and lots of dif. shots, details, and "blend" with everyone, so they dont notice im filming, I shoot from the waist, and tilt the screen up most of the times, I want people to be as comfortable as possible. Lately I've been doing weddings, but its not what I want to do, I'm now starting to do some music videos and have a couple already lined up, but my main goal is to eventually move out(I live in a tiny Island called Madeira, and working in videography here is very very hard and expensive) and work more seriously on films and shortfilms. I can share with you my first shortfilm, done 1.5 years ago, of course I've progressed since then, but Im still quite happy with it, and one should always look back and look at how you started : https://vimeo.com/111478234 (this was based of an animation I had done previously). -
I used my NX1 for a full day (10h) of wedding with 1 battery and 2 powerbanks, even though I dont feel safe using the battery so much, it behaved perfectly.

Wow, such great response ! Thank you all It was indeed shot on a T3i, I still think this is an amazing camera if you put decent glass in front of it. I agree with you, the blacks are dark grayish without detail (not enough DR), but it was an artistic choice, I just liked how it looked in the end. Gear is important, but not as important as we think sometimes, its hard not to get "drunk" with all the gear talk, upgrades and all that, more DR, more resolution, more detail. Most of my gear is "beginnerish", and im glad it is, having quite a short selection of lenses (just the 24mm Samyang and the Canon 50mm f1.8) made me very comfortable with them and the FOV. Of course its a bit uncomfortable, when you get to a job and guests have better gear than you, but hey, what matters is the end product -

Thank you very very much Glad you enjoyed it. This was all filmed hand held, I believe walking with a monopod and tripod/slide is too troublesome and heavy, and I cant afford a steadycam, although I believe having a shoulder rig is a good option. So all the shots are actually stabilized in Premiere CC, and if I need a more advanced stabilization method, I use Mercalli. I believe having wide lenses help quite a lot (I use a 24mm and a 50mm), I tried using an 85mm and a 135mm but it was impossible to get smooth action. -
Hey Everyone, Last month I finished editing my last job with my T3i (since then i've upgraded to the Nx1), most of my jobs are weddings, even though I like doing some of them, I'm burnt from having quite a few this summer. So I've been doing some tests lately with Luts and finally decided to grade a job with it, I very much liked the end result, got a "cinematic" feel, but theres always room for improvement, so I'd like to know what you guys think of the video in general (editting, grading, filming and so on). Password : Memoryshop Thank you guys

Your grading looks impecable, as it always does ! I'd love to see you do a tutorial or walkthrough on how you grade, absolutely love it. His however, I find the end result a bit lacking, the face is filled with grey/green casts on the shadows (near the hairline and left eye), that simply dont look too great, although his original footage wasnt the best either.
