Ah, OK. The t3i isn't great with DR (I have one), and I don't think I ever got much detail with it in the clouds. The waveform tends to be kind of squished. There was another post here on EOSHD of a wedding shot with t3i, it was pretty impressive...you might want to check it out if you plan to continue shooting with your t3i. Edit: just remembered, WRT DR, did you try the Technicolor CIneStyle? I've had some pretty good results with it.

Thanks a lot, Ebrahim, that released it! I was pushing the pin inward rather than slide it away from the lens. So, the adapter works just fine, it was user error...sorry everyone for the false alarm. I change my vote to recommended as I've had no other issues with the adapter. Except of course for lack of aperture control, which some other adapters have, though I believe it might result in vignetting when you go wide. One MAJOR issue I have with the adapter approach in general is that I'm not getting any focus peaking in EVF with video. I know it's possible when using the LCD (you need to click on the little icon that appears on the screen), but I don't know of a way to get it with the EVF. Does anyone know a way? Focus peaking is invaluable for me (and I'm sure many others) as I generally shoot with manual focus, and I'm able to use it only with my Samsung 16-50. I really wish somebody produces a smart adapter that supports this and AF. BTW, Ebrahim, why did you have two replacements for the adapter? What problems did you have? I'm wondering if there are QA issues with the FotodioX that OP and other buyers need to be aware of.

OK, how do you take off the lens? Just push the little button and turn the lens or something else? The button doesn't seem to have any play, and there is manual I can find. It did come out once long ago, but I just can't get it off anymore. And there are others who find it hard to remove, I'm not the only one, so you can't dismiss mine as just a "rare lemon."

It's SpeedGrade. As I said, this is a correction for the skin only, and the grade to correct skin may not work for the rest of the scene depending on what kind of look you want. But once you correct for skin, you can always correct the other stuff like the sky (assuming it's not blown out like here), foliage, etc. to whatever you want. The key point I wanted to make was that if you have people in the scene, you generally start by correcting the skins because viewers are much more offended by bad skin color than say bad foliage shades.
-
This is way too blue. If you have people in the shot, one common way to grade is to isolate the skin and grade it so they line up along the "skin line" in the vector scope. The interesting fact about skin color is that it always lines up that way regardless of the race, so this procedure always works except for extreme black and white. E.g., here's a simple grade of your original (ungraded) shot adjust just for colors. It may not be what you want, but at least it's adjusted more or less for the skin. Grade.tga

It's stuck on the lens, not the body. Looks like others had a similar problem with the adapter, so I would be wary of any similar design (the Fotasy thing posted here looks the same). The FotodioX does have a tripod mount though, quite useful if you have a heavy lens.

I have the FotodioX adapter that I use with my Canon 70-200L. It works well as advertised, except I can't take the darned thing off. It also has no aperture control.

IMO those messages are too techie for the crowd they're targeting. Their core message seems to be: you can get big camera quality with phone size portability. They even call it "light" for the name. I'm sure they'll fine tune the messaging depending on response and as they (if ever) expand into other versions of the camera.

Interesting camera, reminds me of the massive radio telescope they're building out of multiple distributed antennas (http://goo.gl/T6Khyo). I do wish they posted more of the actual images taken by the camera, may be we'll see them soon.

First Job using using Luts C&C are very welcome :D

Looks great, I can't believe you shot this on a t3i. I find your offset a bit high though: the blacks are all dark gray without really adding any detail, but may be that is part of the look you wanted. -
OK, I tested the camera, shooting non-stop for 3 hours, immediately restarting every 1/2 hour with each time limit. Quite amazingly, the camera showed zero signs of problems (was barely warm) and probably could have gone indefinitely. Also, you can use the USB cable for power if you need. Bottom line, NX1 should work fine for arbitrarily long shoots.

Thanks, I actually have the vertical grip with the second battery and a 256GB card, so neither of them should be an issue. I'm mainly concerned about heating (I will be recording in 4K). I'm going to run a little experiment today running it for 3 hours with brief breaks every 1/2 hour, I'll post back what I find.
-
Guys, I was asked if I can cover a 3 hour indoor stage event shoot. It has a series of performances, each separated by a brief (1/2-1 min typically) breaks, but is otherwise continuous. Is it possible to cover this with NX1, stopping/starting during the breaks? I also have NX500 that I'll use as second camera.

Don't generalize: I'm a big fan of 4K (NX1 guy) and don't fancy Canon's strategy, but still hate this video. Why? Because it summarizes with a highly misleading title "The iPhone 6S Takes Better Video Than My Pro DSLR," regardless of what it might actually say in the video. Imagine an article with a title "Experts Agree: Mattias Burling Is Clueless," and in the article you realize the "experts" are a bunch of forum members that don't like you and that even they don't really "agree" on anything - would you be OK with it because after all if one were to actually read the article, they'd know it's bogus?

There's a shocker! I often wonder if stories like this are the result of Apple's marketing push, mostly made up: TV stations switching to iPhone, reviews of iPhone beating Nikno D750 as posted in another thread here, filmmakers making movies with iPhone (with $10K worth of accessories and a big crew, BTW) as we saw recently, commercials by the likes of Martin Scorsese, etc. All to give the completely false impression to credulous masses that somehow this is a new world in which all you need is creativity...and an iPhone!
-
Holy smokes, the iPhone 6S blows lo-res Arri Alexa out of the water! Wow, 4K! What will Apple think of next?

How is this moving horizontally? Anyway, it seems to be moving at a steady rate, so I presume you could keyframe the ends to keep the moon stationary. And if you then zoom in, you should get a steady moon with a cool growing shadow.

I like the first photo, the stars in the background really add to the setting.

Here's a video I made of this week's lunar eclipse. Shot on NX500 with Canon 70-200. I also composed/created the music BTW. If you also shot the eclipse, please post here.

Hey, this (and pretty much all videos with 5D3 RAW that I've seen) are good, but it's a bit juvenile to attack someone because they don't like a look...who are you to judge someone for a personal opionion? And to trash NX1 with comments like 5D3 blows NX1 "out of the water" is out of place in a forum with informed people like EOSHD.
-
The pain with 5D3 raw is the insane file size, which is over 5 GB/min. Comparing with say NX1 (1080p at highest quality), for a 1 minute of 5D3 RAW video, we get 42 minutes of NX1 vide!!! I.e., for a 2 hour video we're looking at over 600 GB worth of SD cards and disk space for 5D3 RAW vs. less than 15 GB for NX1. And I'm not even talking about major features like 4K or EVF. If you feel like a 42-to-1 savings in SD cards and disk space is no big deal or that things like 4K and EVF are overrated, I don't have much else to say.
-
These videos are all good, but why on earth would you go for an old HD camera like 5D3 and a cumbersome raw workflow today for video when you have other better, less expensive, and more future proof options, like the NX1 already mentioned? 5D3 is still awesome as a still photography tool, especially for sports and PJ, but as a video camera it is no longer current.
-
If you have After Effects, try pixel motion blur. I've found it to be quite good, but be sure to bump up the frame count for good results. It is dog slow though, so you'll need to add that to your workflow time. The ReelSmart motion blur is really fast (especially when using graphics card), but produced strange artifacts, at least in my testing.

Well, it's a special day for the couple, and treating them like movie stars should make them feel even more special. What's wrong with that?

OUCH. What a bunch of losers we all are.
