I sure hope so Kai. I had also heard some time ago that some theatres were using under powered bulbs as a way to save on electricity costs.

Cinegain, Kaylee, much obliged and thank you for confirming functionality on your sides. It's like you suggested Cinegain, hitting play while in auto and then switching to 2k on the fly works. Never had this issue before. Wtf Vimeo?

Spot on. I recently watched a beautifully shot doc projected digitally that was absolutely lifeless. All the work that went into making it and it came out flat as a pancake, tragic. The sparkle of celluloid on a silver beaded screen is feast that younger generations will, most probably, never know. Progress.

If I select 2k to view my work, the page just sits there pretending to load - new white circle spins - but never plays. Chrome and Firefox. Anyone else have this happen recently?

Holy smokes! Nice work Ben.

I've found myself imaging how to handcuff this woman to some tough old tribal women as they work the fields for a year.

This one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. She sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies

Nice thread. These years, I throw myself, or am pulled in, where I have to go from zero to 100 right away. I love the thrill of this but there is a ramping up until I'm in synch. Being paid is a great motivator to push myself... but the real magic comes when the project is close to the heart and the material is for something larger than just me. Short vignettes with interesting people seems a good way forward. If it gives you goosebumps, or makes you laugh, you are on the right track.

They are also actively pushing their bullshit on Fb: Canadian Diversity Film Festival https://www.facebook.com/events/173197406692112/ Having passed many years in South Asia, with first hand insight into the staggering level of corruption - bordering on moral and ethical bankruptcy - it's not surprising as to the jokers behind this. And knowing just how challenging it is to make a film, I'd love to catch each of them in the lawless street from which they were birthed.

This performance makes me happy every time I see it and the best part of it is the fun everyone is having. I'm happy that it is just one guy with what is probably a smartphone on a gimbal and freestyle approach and that as a professional - with every tool available to him - he went small. It's not always about how much money and gear you can throw at something... we know less can often be more... and this is about the performance and crowd engagement. That to me is worth more than anything else. I spent half of the last 10 years in, around and moving through Golitzer - which we affectionately call the human ashtray - this lo-fi approach captures the mood and feel of the place extremely well. To each their own... and all that techno-jazz.

It's dubbed. But if this got passed you, all the better ;)

Proving once again that when it's good... it's good. Happy Friday everyone :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKFbnhcNnjE

Lots of good insight here folks, thank you for your patronage. There are as one can imagine, many variables. In going forward, I venture to say that: - I'm going to have to try and get a sense of just how much upcoming work there might be before buying. Hard to know at this point, or ever. - I've already got a fairly decent collection of Canon FF L glass, but if Canon arrives with a silent mirrorless body (beyond their current limited offerings), will this same glass be compatible, me thinks not without an adapter. - It would be great if the potential camera was as much of an all-arounder as possible - stills and video. - I think everyone would agree that it would be smart to move towards an upgrade path that will hold for some years... many of us are quite fed up of having to change out cameras every 2-3 years... part of me is somewhat elated that I've gotten as much time out of the 5DM2 as I have... but the future is knocking hard and fast.

Yep Mercer, I'm thinking that the rumors could be true. As I mentioned, the other set photographer was running a Fuji XT(2?) and she's been on dozens of jobs... so I think she must have done her homework. She mentioned cost, size, weight and quality.
-
All insightful and worthy comments folks... I expected nothing less. Robert... you make a good argument for that A9's tech. But I'm not sure I'd be a fan of lens adaptors... or Sony lenses. And then there is that price tag you mentioned. But yes... it's fast and silent! Somebody give Ironfilm a bottle of whatever he likes best. Kai... I'd only be heading back to the camera store 20 minutes later. Anyone else?

Thanks again hmcindie. Somehow there is always something with Premiere... which is why I just sort of hung on with CC2014.

I've recently been roped in as a set photographer. I was using the ancient mirror-slappin' 5DM2 (with a decent collection of Canon lenses)... so no shooting during sound recording. Until now I've paid relatively little attention to the mirrorless market for photography... the other set photographer was packing a Fuji XT something. Is the Fuji XT (something) a smart investment on the road ahead. Lenses? Good video would be a bonus. Any thoughts?

Thanks hmcindie... I figured there must be someone here who could weigh in in this. It seems as though there may be little other way forward... so I'll most probably give it a go. Tell me, is PPro 2018 duplicating media as you move it from project to project? Is PPro 2018 working well for you?
-
Just marry a Russian oligarch and you can be on your way too ;)
-
So nobody here is using PPro 2018... moving sequences between different projects? No editors here? Tisk tisk.

Axel. Danke. Yes I have backups of the media on other drives. Yes I want to split up the project, that's why I searching for solutions. Of course I'll leave Mountain Lion when a decent way forward presents itself. Agreed that it's better to keep the the Media Cache/ Preview files on a separate ssd drive. Yes the smaller the project the better, but tell this to a feature documentary editor and you will come to understand that many doc editors are all facing the same issue. There is no easy solution. Premiere Pro 2018 ability to have multiple projects open might be the solution if it does not duplicate media when moving sequences between multiple project... this is the thing that is currently holding me back for upgrading OSX and Premiere. Adobe seem to be aware of this 'duplicating media' problem, not sure if there is a fix, many like me are watching/ waiting. Andrew. Danke. No Resolve on this side, the current project is too far along to switch over. But I will keep it in mind on the next one. Yes, editing is about editing. I have started culling files (and sequences) that might not make the big cut. Kai, appreciate the insights. Yes Resolve sounds promising, though I think we know that it's not the tool for the long form doc... but I'd be happy if it was.
