  1. "For no particular reason at all?" Is that really the best you can do? Tisk tisk.
  2. Maybe become a writer: http://www.dw.com/en/alleged-mastermind-of-frances-heist-of-the-century-in-court/a-42556498
  3. Interesting thread, I can speak to what I'm seeing. Despite the rising interest in documentary films, we have been witnessing the slow erosion of tradition market (ie broadcast and state media) funding. Many have been hanging up their guns and I'd be lying if I didn't say that it's got me deeply concerned and a cinematographer and director who is carrying a long term passion project to the finish line. As a point of reference, the Documentary Association of America (and German equivalent) did a study a little while ago and determined the industry to be largely unsustainable. Poverty actually. It seems to me that the pressure is on to somehow develop a new funding model from some kind of web based model before the broadcasters fall apart or are able to transition... to what? Even lesser funds? The real here trick is to find funding in non-traditional ways... for example, building in a story angle and using it to approach NGOs. But that could suck hard also. Things still looked reasonably ok up until 2010, not so anymore. The good news is that a few years ago I caught wind that it was possible to make a decent living working as an actor playing a Christian church minister at Chinese weddings in China. I know this would be far less demanding and probably pay better than doc film. Grow a beard and get laid all the time. Develop a drug habit... start really living again. You know. Your film buried by a Netflix algorithm where retards click whatever they see first: http://www.indiewire.com/2017/07/netflix-amazon-algorithms-destroying-the-movies-1201853974/
  4. I'm waiting for Canon to put out a toaster oven, so I can shoot a film with it.
  5. I went with a Singh-Ray 77mm Vari ND some years ago and I'm not sure I liked the image I was getting running a 5DM2 with 35mm L. It seemed to steal a lot of the colour and flattened the image. Not sure I'd run a Vari ND again. For me it was another vote for a camera with internal ND filers.
  6. Everyone talks about landing on the the moon, but nobody talks about landing on the sun. The sun would have those 10k lumens he's lookin' for.
  7. This is exactly what continues to keep me interested in this as a 'second' camera.
  8. Nah, not so, plenty of people shoot with just a C300 + lens and not much else (although yes, there are also people who massively rig it up) The Canon Cxxx cameras are made for handheld work. Expose correctly with the C100MKII and it's ever bit as good as the C300. I'd reason that it is actually even better. The Cxxx line lets you focus on the story you are trying to tell, and that is far more valuable to me than a bit more colour depth or resolution. And with so many millions now clamouring towards 'filmmaking,' one's approach to the story (and sound design) will draw more people than anything else. But we know this right gang? Maybe before all this camera stuff, take a moment to ask yourself what are your intentions? And actually, how personable and well-rounded are you with your fellow human beings? For it is this here, in this space, that really decides who will prosper at what they set their hand to.
  9. I doubt he blazed anything. Reports suggest that he had been huffing human faeces from a polyethylene bag before the show. Some kind of global trend.
  10. “Look into the eyes of a chair kicker and you will see real stupidity. It is a kind of bottomless stupidity, a fiendish stupidity. They are the most horrifying, cannibalistic and nightmarish creatures in the world.” ― Werner Herzog
  11. It's no secret that we are certainly seeing a fragmentation of distribution. But if it helps me find films that I actually want to see, then I'd be happy to forgo the Hollywood schlock. Of course seeing great films in theatres still warms my heart, but not when some troglodyte is kicking the back of my chair. I've been collecting images of people who do this and may start a website to compile them. Starting with this guy at CPH:DOX World Premiere of The Look of Silence.
  12. Line them up... along with all the others.
  13. This. The studios used to take chances, in the 70's.
  14. Oh I'm just 'over analyzing hyperbole' then. Whew. Good to have than sorted.
  15. Oh? I'd be curious to hear who has said this. I'm mean, maybe for gimbal work. But if I heard this from a doc shooter, I would send them home to their mother.
  16. Well said. This is exactly where I'm at.
  17. I would have liked to see a 'middle' codec as well. But in times like this, I stand up and walk over to the window and remind myself that there is a whole world just waiting for me out there. Then I come and sit back down again. With God's help, I hope to beat this horrible affliction.
  18. Lots of good insights here for documentary folks: http://filmmakermagazine.com/104291-bob-richman-the-price-of-everything/#.WmOoW4FrnqB
  19. I know hey Dave. But try to think of the guy with bike in the first frame as a Canon sales rep, and the bike as a 1DC. A condom would equate to focus peaking, histogram etc. Except... there isn't one.
  20. Oh I don't know about that. To me it's about them placing the camera in a certain echelon. Could they be thinking that folks who appreciate and can afford a camera like this, can also appreciate and afford to have regular servicing at an extra expense? 1DC owner: Yeah man, I took it in for servicing and the rep said 'You are so fucking cool for buying this.' And I leaned into him and said, 'Yeah I know.' Guest at party: 'Wow man, choice.' Who knows. Like this, only with a camera... but still somehow different:

  22. People say violence never solves anything but I wouldn't mind a clip surfacing of this asshole being punched out by a decent citizen of the world. Logan is in the eye of a media culture shit-o-cane. In fact, he is the faeces.
