I realise that this is largely a forum where folks discuss/ compare cameras (and I absolutely appreciate this - especially the folks we have here), but sometimes I think that as part of the registration process it should be mandatory for new arrivals to tick a box saying that they understand that there are inherant hardware/ software limitations tied to price points and era (yuga) of development. And more to the point, that it is very often not in the interest of camera companies to give their customers everything they want, even if they could. And if, they did somehow release the dreams 1080 camera now - for a steal, it would impact their 4k sales. So why would they? This seems fairly obvious. Na? Unless it's about beating that dead horse some more.

I've passed 10 years in South Asia with adventures in 40 countries. Nice try.

Since we have forum members from a broad range of countries, I might suggest you use the preferred nomenclature of 'developing world'. Otherwise you run the risk of looking more like the myopic troglotyte that you most probably are.

The majority of content of the companies you mentioned is available in India. That you could not access select shows on Netflix & Amazon does not negate their other offerings or the offerings and availability of the others. But I hear you.

Prototype for Apple's 2018 keyboard. Rumour is that the keys won't be fixed to an actual board, just strewn randomly at your work station where you pick them up and squeeze them to see if anything happens... anything at all. And if nothing happens, Apple expects you to mail a hand written complaint letter to the hospital in which you were born.

Wrong. It is available in India. And India just overtook China as the world's most populous country.

Ed David should be able to weigh in on the 'pretending I'm interesting' part. My thinking is that if your work is good, and you get it out there, others will recognise it and it will take off. Festivals are a good measure as the programmers need to be up to speed on what constitutes good cinema.

+1 JCS, I always appreciate you well placed insights.

Hello to the German members here, I know there a few. I bought a C100 MkII in Berlin in November 2015 and have a small issue with the camera out in the heat and filth of Asia. I'm curious if a German can tell me how long a camera like this is normally covered under warranty? I seem to remember Germans/ Europeans get an extra 1 year extra warranty compared to their North American counterparts. Any thoughts?
-
Part of me has always wondered if the C100 Mk II could be enabled to output 4k with a firmware update. Truth be told, the fat 1080 of the C300 MkII is all that I want. Just waiting for the price to come down.

And the hubris of Ed David leading the charge to reform him. Laughable.
-
Picture yes. But I'm curious about the audio pre amps when you have a moment. Tchüss A!
-
Thank you for confirming that the C100 was the camera in question Dave. I appreciate your contributions here and your quest to rock that 1DC in the best possible way, thanks again for sharing.
-
I know the OP mentioned that there was some softness in some of the matrial due to AF. But out of curiosity, does anyone else think that the C100 material is the material that wasn't focused? It really looks off to me. Anyone?
-
I'd say that many of us have multiple camera bodies, lenses, mics, audio recorders that we can employ under various scenarios anyway. For me the C100Mk2 (with the handles off) and the 1DC are about the same physical size anyway. However, the pre amps in the C100 are solid. The only thing missing are the hi-res stills... and the XF-AVC 305 Mbps. But hey.
-
I appreciate the comparison as well but completely agree with everything mentioned by Garth. And the few but substantial improvements to the C100Mk2 take things up another notch... and I'd even say that it has an advantage over the C300Mk1. Hands down the best combination of image, features and usability for the price.

Back it up a little there Dudeman. These guys are not driven by steroids, they are driven by J-Pop teen queens and lots of 'quality' pharmacopoeia. For God's sake, let's not confuse this any further.

Bring a bottle of Old Monk and take hits off it from time to time. Really.
-
@ Shield3 If I remember correctly, you had the 1DC. I'm curious to hear if you can make a comment on how the 1DC 4k image compares to the C100's once it has been scaled to 1080? I seem to remember someone saying that it is pretty much the same. Any thoughts?

Thanks Cary. My export setting have been Export in 2560x1440p CBR at 90 mbps. Key Frame Distance: 1 I would think that VLC/ Quicktime should be able to play this back with stuttering. With my last export, I set the Key Frame Distance to 24 and it played back smoothly with Quicktime Player last night. However, when I played it back today it began to stutter. Now I'm starting to suspect this has something to do with my Macbook Pro... system memory etc? It's almost as if something somewhere is hogging the horsepower required to play it back smoothly. Could be that I had Premiere Pro open and somehow they are competing for resources. Anyone?

Hi Cary, thanks for jumping in on this. It was my understanding that if you have a lot of movement going in in your video you want a Key Frame Distance that is not so high, so I went with 1. I want to export a file that is 6:30 and I'm getting files that are about 3.5 gigs with the above settings. They look great on Vimeo, they just seem to stutter ever so slightly. What Key Frame Distance do you suggest?

Thanks Tim. I see that Magic Bullet Looks Spot Exposure has some kind of 'mask' controls so I'm currently playing with this. Let's see.
