  1. I've done an interview of a talking head. Half the face is exposed correctly, the other half of the face is underexposed. In Magic Bullet Looks I can easily fill in the underexposed side of the face with Spot Exposure. Problem is of course that the talking head is moving around. So, is there a way to have this Spot Exposure track the talking head so that it look reasonably normal? Is there another tool in Premiere Pro that can do this or help with the task?

    Vimeo Export

Exporting a file from Premiere Pro using: H.264 2560x1440 Key Frame Distance: 1 Contrary to my post above, I'm getting choppy playback using VLC 10.2.4 but it plays fine with Quicktime Player 10.2. It also has choppy playback on Vimeo. Anyone know what the problem is? Key Frame Distance?
  3. No sweat, happy to assist. Yes I definitely get an audible 'clicking' noise as the lens adjusts itself through it's focal range. I'd say it's somewhat 'stuttery.' I've never used any of my lenses in DPAF mode so I might not be the best person to comment on this. In a quiet room the sound would be picked up by the onboard mics. However, I just compared the sound between the Sigma and a Canon 16-35mm f4 IS and they seemed about the same. Hope this helps. I've never used an STM lens - which are, as we know, is somehow new technology is supposed to be quite quiet.
  4. Hi Lintelfilm. I just check this for you on my combo with no issues. All clear and working well even when I manually roll focus during DPAF.
  5. Yep, it certainly seems a requirement. But adding the audio recorder (plus wireless units) and you are moving towards a bit of a clunky rig... for my needs anyway. But there is no denying the image. The C300 MkII will probably be where I head once the price drops.
  6. If it only had focus peaking built in I would have been on this camera years ago.
  7. I'm running the C100 MkII and love it. Sure I wish the files had a little more heft but I for what I do I shoot - run and gun doc in difficult situations/ locations - I'm happy to a decent balance between file sizes and image quality. Hands down my favorite lens is the Sigma 18-35mm. Partner this with the 24-105mm and you are fairly well covered. Sure I wish the 18-35mm had IS, but given the combined weight of this lens and the C100, I find it a very stable combo if one can keep off the coffee. Given that the 24-105mm is a full frame lens, and that the C100 is a super 35 sensor, the best part (centre) of the 24-105mm glass is used. I love the long end of this lens. I'm sure the 70-200mm would kill. I picked up the 16-35mm f4 L for when I need wide IS... but still the Sigma gets more love.
  8. Tech Tool Pro has a interval that can be set to SMART test the drives. It was set to 1 hour but it did not feel at all like an hour had elapsed between tests. But it's pretty easy to cook off an our without noticing the time so maybe. However, I just opened Activity Monitor when the drives kicked into their strange read/ write mode and saw that Tech Tool Pro had jumped to the top of the active processes. So I'm pretty sure this is it. Strange though that yesterday I had unticked the SMART test for these external drives and somehow today they were ticked again when I opened up System Preferences/ Other/ Tech Tool Protection. Maybe there is some strange preferences thing going on. In any case thanks for jumping in Dahlfors.
  9. Yes exactly. I just checked Tech Tool Pro (Smart Check) and I think this was the issue. Thanks for confirmation no_correction
  10. I had been editing with with Seagate 2TB drives in the Lacie. Everything was sooth as silk. Recently I switched over to Hitashi HGST 4TB Drives. But now, for some reason, every 15-30 min the Hitachi drives in the Lacie enclosure begin doing some kind of reading/ writing process that interrupts my editing. I imagined that the drives have some kind of firmware that makes them undergo some kind of read/ write procedure. For example, as I understand it, some drives have firmware that stops them from spinning after a certain amount of time if they are not being written to or read from to save power. There is even software (Keep Drives Spinning) to prevent the drives from powering down and I tried this but to no avail even though the drives were being already written to and read from while editing, so they shouldn't go into sleep cycle in the first place and then need to be woken up. Does anyone know what could be causing the Hitachi drives to light up (read/ write process for a minute) in succession every 15-30 min? 2013 Macbook Pro, Lacie 5Bay Thunderbolt, Premiere Pro CC
  11. You keep bragging about that camera and I'm going to take it away from you and stick it up your ass and pull the shutter release until it goes 'click click.' And you will be looking back... with a tear in your eye... for C-log. Ain't never going to happen.
  12. Yeah, won't be long until he is going full tilt on his blog about Ebrahim like he did with Phil. He loves that
  13. No you are not missing anything Mattias. It seems that Mr. Independent has got a big chubby on for 'serious to the point meaningful shit' today. God bless his little armchair warrior heart.
  14. I've got AVCHD files that have been converted to ProRes 422. From these files, I'm having to select and export hundreds of smaller files that are being uploaded to Dropbox so that a language translator can download them for translation. Under most circumstances I try to export audio files only. But when the translator needs to see what is happening I export audio with the video. Problem is that when I export audio with the video it takes quite some time to export. Is this a bug with this version? I haven't been on this version so long. I'm exporting from ProRes 422 1080 23.976 to SD 480 to save on Dropbox space. But I'm open to other suggestions as long as the video is of half decent quality. Does anyone know how to get PPro to export a/v faster? Settings?
  15. Interesting post Ebrahim. Thanks. I can imagine that a light color grade will be enough to blur the difference between the C100 Mk I/ MkII. 8 months ago when I was trying to decide between the A7(s/r) and C100 I put of material up on a big projector screen, the Canon stuff really won hands down.
  16. Do you have an example of any FS5 material that you think stands out?
  17. I couldn't have said it better and this is exactly why I went with the C100 MkII instead of the 1DC and a SmallHD. And, in my style of shooting I often love to just let the camera roll knowing that eventually something interesting IS going to happen. At the end of the day I know that the story I'm telling is more important than the minute differences in image quality. But I love the idea of having the stills and video in one camera... if it only had decent sound options. Alas.
  18. Since the topic of motion cadence has been making the rounds lately, I just came across this music clip and it stood out for me. We are given a visual of a smaller Canon camera at 00:39 and 04:35. Then a larger studio camera at 07:37. {Edit} End credits mention Telecine so that explains things though the studio camera doesn't look at all like like a film camera. I can see some kind of compression (artifacts) going on so I almost kind of wonder if this is somehow contributing to the feel of the motion in this clip. Anyone want to chime in with any thoughts on what is giving this clip it's unique signature?
  19. Ok cool... got it. Thanks. Feel free to drop a note on your experience using the 1DC. Many are curious and as the price continues to drop I'm sure many more will be moving towards it. Good luck on your upcoming projects... and enjoy the good life!
  20. Nice work Dave and thanks for the feedback. I love the 1DC but... my concern is in trying to the image focused while the camera is running (during r&g shooting) without the use of an eternal monitor. As I understand it, one needs to stop recording in order to use the focus assist (punch in) to help one focus... punch out and then hit record again. Am I correct on this? Any thoughts on how you will handle this on a documentary?
  21. Maybe have a look at Ebrahim's post in this thread:
