Thank you Knuck. Good to know. It did however sound like he believed what he was telling me.

Any news on this yet? Edit: Actually, I just spoke with one of the top private dealers of Sony products here in Berlin. He told me that they have sold more than 80 A7rii cameras and he has not received one report of over heating. He went on to say that he feels that this is some kind of 'internet forum' issue. So yeah.

Awesome Cinegain. And that's a word that I almost never use. Thank you!

Kubrickian, do you have a middle grey value that you would use to expose for non caucasians? South Asians? Africans? The sigma/ c100 combo really shines in those low light scenes you shot. Nice capture by the way. However, seeing as I'm viewing all of this material on Vimeo/ Youtube it really is hard to know what the camera is actually rendering? Does anyone know where I can download some uncompressed C100 MkII footage so as to have a look at it on the big monitor and get a better sense of it? And Bob, this ties in with what you said about applying an s-curve. What really become very apparent to me over the last weeks in my research is just how ugly the 'buzzing' in the shadows can be in some clips folks post of their material from various cameras. I can imagine this noise is amplified by the Vimeo/ Youtube compression. Correct? Is this also partly caused by cameras with low bit codecs that don't survive the Vimeo's/Youtube's extra compression? Because if it is, I'm still seeing this 'buzzing' (compression artifacts) from much higher end cameras as well. Can anyone weight in?

Solid Kubrickian, Bob. You guys are my new gurus! Really appreciate you guys jumping in the way you have. I promise to make you guys proud. I'll drop a note with my thoughts in the morning, totally shot here.

Kubrickian, what is the best way to to expose for c-log in low light? Over expose? How many stops? things to keep in mind? In the next days I'm going to hit the ground running under difficult circumstances and with little or no online support until I get my housing and net sorted. If you could impart any real world tips to make this light box sing, I would be most grateful.

- "I've found C-Log to be pretty noisy in low-light. Wide DR seems a lot cleaner to me, at high ISOs." Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks guys. The Canon bean-counters are so funny... having folks tinkering around in the C100 menus through formats like this. Hackers of the world unite!
-
Thanks Kubrician. This fits with my research as well. If this is the case, then I wonder if it would be best to leave it in MP4 as it means one less menu function to enable for 60p seeing as the camera needs to be in MP4 to shoot 60p. Also, Is the 60p assignable? I'm betting it's not and that the camera has to re-boot into 60p from the menu. Correct? I also hear something about AVCHD taking advantage of Dolby sound. Correct? Not that I know if that would make any difference to my project.

C100 MkII AVCHD (28MBPS) or MP4 (35MBPS)? Editing in PP CC on a 2013 Macbook Pro. Lots of motion? Grading? Which one is best and for what and why?

Aside from the wireless options, Franz put me onto this as the juicedlink (Lil darlin') version is hung up in a legal battle over patents. http://tascam.com/product/dr-10c/ I love this unit as an option to the wireless units. Only issue is you absolutely have to make sure that you've got your lav mic mounted and protected decently or the audio could suffer. I've been looking at this product: http://www.rode.com/accessories/invisilav for a while but from the youtube clips I've seen it does not mitigate clothing noise even though the mic is fixed inside the silicone. Here is one of the best videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D85HmR825wM) I've found that shows lav mounting options. My current situation is that I'm working without a sound person and I'm chasing after people with a mic mounted to them on the outside of their clothing. I want to find a method of hiding the mic but making sure that it is not picking up clothing noise while they move. The subject that I will spend the next year with will be a woman so I'm hoping to drop the lav between her breasts and that will keep he shirt off the mic. Any thoughts?

Hi Paul, good to hear from you. Have you been able to try another version of the same lens? I myself can't exactly see a use for continuous right now but really appreciate one shot auto focus. Can anyone else weigh in here?

Hey Matt, thanks for jumping in here. Good to hear that Sigma have made the update so the lens works at all apertures. Great insight on getting a recent lens as well to avoid having to grab the dock unit. Thanks for that. I've considered the 17-55mm f2.8, just trying to get a sense of the difference 'look/ feel' between f4 and f1.8 on a 35mm sensor. I know this on a full frame only. Never tried the 35mm 2.0 but love my 35mm 1.4L but it is having its ass roasted by the new Canon 35mm 1.4L II and Sigma 35mm 1.4 offerings. With regards to your other suggestions, I don't really want to look so closely at the 24mm f2.8 IS and 35mm f2.0 IS as I need a something wider for the C100 crop sensor. I do however like them for their smaller form factor. A small 16mm pancake could be interesting though, but I don't want to go near anything fly by wire. One part of me likes the Canon 16-35mm as I would be able to use it with my 5DM2 or other full frame sensors down the road. Ya know.

Got it. Than you. I hear you on panning, there is a formula that equals success. Can't remember it exactly... 30% of something I can't really remember anymore. Actually, I was thinking of going with the the FSB 6 because it's several hundred euro cheaper and half a pound lighter as well. Also I'm not sure that I'll really build a rig much over 13.5 pounds for what I'm doing. Do you really think that the FSB 8 will somehow be a better match for the C100 Mkii with little or no extras? On a the doc side of things, met these directors last year, solid work: Alrighty lights out here... more to follow I'm sure. Thanks again for your insights Bob...
-
Nice set up. Serious head you got there. I'm moving towards the FSB 8. Even with the exchange rate, it's a good deal in Germany. I have the same Gitzo Legs. I'm curious, do you use the WC top plate and arm because the Canon one is shite? Or you want better stealth? What I'd like is less height and to include a mic I would want to get a top plate and then mount a shock mount mic holder to the side of it over top of the hand grip like seen here:
-
Thanks again Bob. Nice mics. I hear you on the bargain aspect except I'm putting a whole kit together, in Europe and getting killed on the exchange rate in the currency I'm using. Do you have a a photo of your camera with your set up? Would be good to see how you've mounted things without the handle. I want to lose it as well.

Importantly, how does the C100 Mkii 'one touch auto focus' work with the Sigma?

Nice one Bob. 128 bucks to get my Sennheiser 416 running. Sometimes I think that I should have gone with the ME66. Also, I sometimes find the 416 a little too directional, especially if I don't frame the subject so that the mic nails them. Hypercardioid could be my next word of the day.

Apologies for beating this C100 Mkii/ 1DC horse to death but... I'm trying to decide between the Canon 16-35mm f4 and the Sigma 18-35mm 1.4. I understand the differences but I'm wondering if anyone here has used both and can comment on which one they prefer most for general use? I'd be using it on the C100 mkii and although the Sigma doesn't have IS, I'm not so sure that it really bothers me because the combined weight of both camera and lens has a tendency to reduce the micro jitter, and I'm pretty well versed in my steady-cam tai chi duck walk. Does the f1.8 really make for more cinematic-esque images over the f4 on such a wide lens?
-
Optics meet physics, I guess.
-
I doubt it but, can the C100 Mkii 3.5mm mini jack supply phantom power to a mic?
-
Wow. Now that is science

Anyone tried this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hxKqzkP6CI

Thank you for jumping in here Shield. Good points you raise. Some might say it's hard to find a sub 10k camera that handles colour and skin tones as well as this one does. I've heard Dave Dougdale say the same with his 5DM2 when comparing with a GH4. Does anyone have a reason why could this be?
