Solid. Thank you once again Oliver

First class Oliver! Thanks. Sorry, one more question: Have these issues you‘ve experienced been reported by other FS7 users? Yes I agree this camera really holds a lot of promise. Of course manufactures will conspire to build in limitations and compromises, but it‘s good to know what some of those are based on previous iterations. And maybe we can 'hope' that Sony will work some voodoo in the FS5 to knock these out.
-
Hi Oliver. Thanks for jumping in here. Do you understand why these ‘severe issues‘ showed up? Under what conditions? Are others having these issues also? Is there a way around this?
-
I'm trying to get a sense of just how this camera‘s image is going to look in both 2k and 4k while we wait for examples other than that hipster VW fluff that released with the camera‘s announcement. Does anyone recommend looking towards FS7 material as an approximate gauge?

Would have been great to see the mic that is located in the handle, placed into the camera like the Ursa Mini. Throw a little Loxia on there and you are going places in 1080 10 bit 4.2.2 style. This thing is going to run with mucus!

Happy to hear that Don. Really. With that, I begin to wonder if you have let your camera run long enough for it to actually shut down? And if you haven't, would you be willing to try that to actually know if it is the 'cards' as this Sony Rep is suggesting? I'm climbing through the specs and functionality of a great plethora of cameras right now trying to to determine what will hold up best in a very hot climate over the next few years. If I knew that the A7rii and the coming A7sii won't overheat it would bode well for my selection process. I really appreciate your sensibilities on this forum and look forward to your thoughts?

Hmmm. I wonder if someone out there tonight who has never had an overheating issue with the A7rii because they are using a particular card? Can you imagine them under lensing up another back lit fluttering leaf and giggling their mofo ass off?
-
Would she really go on record to say that it's the cards if it were untrue? Could it actually be the slower cards that caused all this commotion?
-
I'm not so sure we need people feeling 'special'. It denotes a kind of superiority which can lead to things like... war?
-
Narcissism run amok, on both sides of the camera.

Thank you for you comments gentlemen. All good info. For the price, size and image the A7rii & A7sii camera are unique and I really want to like them. Unfortunately I feel they are so full of bugs for run and gun doc work. Overheating, screen dimming after hitting record, lame battery life etc. Sony really know how cripple what could be a real powerhouse.
-
With no heat sync being attached to the sensor because of the IBS process, I‘m curious who here already thinks that the camera is going to have overheating issues in 4K?
-
Nice test Zak. I'd be curious to see how just how much different it would look if it wasn't recorded to the Odyssey. Can you comment on that?

Oh I don't know, several broadcasters are now on board with my doc which began shooting on an EX1 and a 5Dm2. But for sure they probably would like it to have been shot on something better. But if it had, I would not have the film that I do. Everything is a trade off. Darwin's Nightmare was shot on a Sony PD100. It was broadcast around the world by all the big broadcasters.

This will be a beautiful and very versatile image making device that will hold up over the next 5 years. I'm not sure one could say that about many of the other current offerings.

I found it interesting when I learned that Canon actually didn't really foresee that including video in a dslr was going to take off that the way it did. In other words they were not planning for it, it just sort of happened. And they made a mint on it. I think this reflects on why they never really pumped up dslr video specs, aside from the 1Dc.

Wonderful real world and insightful post Joema! Hats off to Fuzzy and Aaron for your insightful notes as well. In light of the current FS5 and A7sII announcements today, I think the playing field as been changed yet again. For sure it'll take some time to see how this new tech translates and what it's actually capable of, exciting times ahead! Looking forward to everyones thoughts in the days to come, and thank you again for sharing your insights and experiences as you have.
