  1. These companies and their strategists know exactly what they are doing and know exactly how to position themselves by what they enable and disable in their products. I began to see this trend emerge as early as 2004. Pay more you get increased functionality, pay less and you end up frustrated and looking for work-arounds. It wouldn't surprise me at if if these companies form strategic alliances with long range roadmaps to swing buyers in and out of their products... especially given the considerable expense of such items as lenses, it become highly profitable motive.
  2. Yes, this is exactly what I've been waiting for someone to step up and talk about.
  3. Hi Greg, I work solo a lot of the time. It sounds and appears (by your work) that you already have a good deal of what you need (gear and knowledge) to do the work that lays ahead. When planning your approach to collecting the material for your thesis, will you require equipment that you don't already have? For example lights? If not, keep the Canon. I kept mine because it's a solid photo camera that just works and will keep working. God knows about the Sony stuff and what the depreciation will be like on it in the next year or 2. But if you've currently in a cycle where you don't feel the need to shoot stills for the next period (say a year or more) then maybe it's ok to dump the Canon for something knowing that you will pick up something better down the road. In the end, you will make/ find more money down the road to buy new equipment anyway. Hope that helps.
  4. I don't know ya know. For me, aside from all else in this whole world... I would have really love‘d it if that old Canon dude would have given those two sissies a massive karate chop. Really.
  5. I asked a similar question here and failed to get any answer, so I‘m guessing it‘s not possible. http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/8600-sony-a7s-audio/
  6. Nice topic Gregor. I love films that take us to far away places. I think it's understood that it's the people in these places that pull us in and give us something to relate to in this our shared human experience. They make us feel in a way that a mountain or fluttering leaf on a tree can't. Contra the heard and focus on character development.
  7. Same type of thing with my unit. I'm also interested in knowing what causes it? To clarify, I am not getting the same type of lose connection sound in your Vimeo clip 00:00-00:07, but I do get that interference sound even when only a short distance from my subject. And sometimes the unit even is susceptible to the coil/ condenser electrical impulses of old motor vehicles.
  8. Interesting option Cinegain. I don't think I would have come to on my own. And good to have your insight as well Dahlfors, agreed. Thank you both. They really wonderful thing when building a new camera/ sound package is walking into a store that has everything your need right in front of you. Nobody can beat B&H for this. Sitting on a plane for 12 hours is probably worth it in the long run, but I'm still open to options.
  9. Actually the lowest price in this example is http://www.avprofshop.nl/ as Julian mentioned: Sound Devices 720 = $2590.84 (tax inc.) USD - avprofshop
  10. Thanks again Cinegain & Antonis. Look Like CVP is the cheapest option in Europe so far in this example, but it's still $1305.12 USD more than B&H. Sound Devices 702 = $2228.29 (taxi inc.) USD - B&H Sound Devices 702 = $4203.38 (tax inc.) USD - Wellen-Noethen (Berlin, Germany) Sound Devices 702 = $3533.41 (tax inc.) USD - CVP I'm also on a Canadian dollar, so that stings as well, Ah well.
  11. Very good Julian. Thank you. I'm curious if you can tell me, what is best shop here in Europe that has the good selection on audio/ video equipment for sale? Like B&H in New York. WHere do people buy their gear in Europe/ Berlin?
  12. Thank you Cinegrain & Julian. Julian, I'm curious why do you don't feel it's a 'proper' solution?
  13. Hello folks, I'm a Canadian currently living/ working in Berlin. I'm getting ready to drop some serious cash on new gear. But when comparing European/ USA/ Canadian prices, they are always significantly higher here in Europe. I'm considering flying to New York (B&H) to save on the purchase. I'm wondering how and what folks do living in Germany/ Europe to make purchases so that they save cash on larger purchases? Example: Sound Devices 702 = 2228.29 (taxi inc.) USD - B&H Sound Devices 702 = 4203.38 (tax inc.) USD - Wellen-Noethen (Berlin, Germany)

    Sony A7S Audio

Hello folks,I don't yet have an A7S and want to understand something on its audio possibilities.Suppose you ran a Sony UWP-D11 into a SMAD-P3 Multi-Interface Shoe Adapter. Could you, at the same time, run another on camera mic into the cameras 3.5mm mini port and have control over input levels via the cameras menu control? In other words, I'm trying to understand if I have to buy the Sony XLR-K2M XLR/ Sony XLR-K1M Adapter and Microphone Kit OR can I go with the above?
