Ok, let me rephrase my statement: Is anyone expecting a cinematic image from a fixed zoom lens 1" camera combinatoin that has been around for ages and we all know exactly how it performs even before we see a sample video?

We are discussing a piece of camera gear and it was criticized for the "look" it produces. Is anyone expecting a cinematic image from a 1" sensor? There is a lot of content that does need anything more than this and you've probably watched without giving it a second thought. The tool should be evaluated in the context of its intended use.

The EODHD forum's toughest pill to swallow: even the best image quality, the best low light ISO performance, the best AF, the best lightning, the best sound, the creamiest of bokeh cannot sell shitty/niche content. You need a good story/performance or at least a gripping reality soap opera (which can be told by a workhorse HD camera, that has been forgotten by GAS).

The timing of this change is pretty weird as well - you'd think that stock footage/images use would rise during the lock-down.

Moving a vast catalogue is a time-consuming task, that takes away your time to create new content. And what if the next service does the same shit? Losing time again.

My bad. So Sony really doesn't stand out from the crowd specs-wise that much to justify the price. It just has software tricks and those tend to be inflated by PR.

The specs are there, but until a reputable reviewer makes some sample studio scene shots, there is still a lot unknown. Sony smartphones have been famously producing not-flagship-level photo IQ. As for 20 fps - most flagships have reliable DPAF in video, which is 30-60 fps. Not much an achievement, until you factor in the big 12mp sensor that has shallower DOF. Which brings us to the S20 Ultra with the same size sensor that has been plagued by AF issues. So again, a review is needed. And then the question is, how many times are you doing 20fps bursts with 24mm lenses (don't know if other two modules support this mode).

You are overreacting here - huge screens like this will eat through batteries like butter. HDMI cable is the least of your problems, you need to also power it and also ignore anyone trying to reach you while you shoot. This would be a good solution for amateurs, but it is too expensive for that.

I like the Apple approach - keeping all the sensors the same mp count and having a solid base of ultra wide, wide and normal modules with as fast of apertures as possible. EIS on all of them (theoretically all of them should be a bit over 12mp then) and OIS on wide and tele. Keep this basic formula intact and expand on it like increasing the sensor size or adding a longer tele module (but keep the normal one as is). Sony Xperia 1 mark II is one such example, but it is yet to be reviewed. The second approach would be the ultra wide plus wide with insane mp count for telephoto cropping. Not a big fan, but this is a lot better than the stupid depth and macro modules (they should be banned, IMO). The surprising thing with the 108mp module is that even at f1.8 and 1/1.3" size has a pretty darn shallow DOF, so increasing the sensor size and using a bit slower aperture seems to be worth it. The third approach would be the Samsung K Zoom, but with an updated sensor. Maybe go berserk and have an extending lens zoom module for 14-35mm and one for 35-100mm or so. Thick phone, but with a good reason.

Vivo details their gyro sensor stabilization - 3x movement compensation in comparison to traditional OIS. Now, the sample video is fishy: comparing against OIS for walking, which is insane, since EIS produces superb results and that should be the benchmark. Rumors have it that Samsung is creating a 1" 150mp sensor for the S20 Ultra successor next February. The real question is how is that going to affect aperture size of the lens.

Please do do not spam this thread with YouTube links or obfuscate them somehow, since a page full of embeds takes ages to load. Samsung announced a GN1 1/1.31" 50mp sensor that can do 8K25p, 1080p240 with AF and 1080p400 with no AF, gyro IS (whatever that is), HDR and has 1.2 micron pixels with 2.4 in binned mode. Even the Samsung website does not specify frame rates for 4K, but I am guessing 60 fps tops. https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-isocell-gn1-50mp-1120191/ This sensor seems like the best of the two worlds - binning is good for sharpness, but post processing to many megapixels can lead to some unnatural looking textures in foliage and grass for example. The additional 2mp over the required 48mp for 4-to-1 binning for 12mp images will aid in 4K EIS and could enable EIS in 8K as well. The reduced pixel count will ease up the CPU demands and offer better processing on the flagship CPUs. The sensor is already in production and that makes me wonder where it will end up. A good candidate would be the Q4 S20 Lite (S865 for 8K) and hopefully the other camera modules will be impressive as well (no macro or depth bullshit). The current flagship trend it wow with high megapixel numbers, but I am still a big proponent of just making larger sensors and thicker phones for fast optics. Every OEM should reserve one model in their incredibly expansive product lists for a no-compromise photo-centric model.

If the hyped up specs pan out, the 6K price would not be outrageous. It is a HALO product that will generate a a lot of buzz for the RF mount, just like their extremely expensive lenses. They just need a good R6 to sell to the masses. If yo are going to use 8K RAW, you shouldn't balk at that price either, since the expenses don't stop there.

Also geotagging.

I like their hardware choices - make bigger sensors with 12mp and have lots of CPU power to do post-processing tricks. However, they could up the count to 13 or 14mp for EIS with true 4K. This marketing explanation was not needed and they raise some ridicules points like touting digital zooming on those 12mp. I am very hopeful reviews will find IQ and DR great, since the phone is very expensive. In the next iteration they should add a periscope module, but that's about it.

If 8K75p is possible in this format, surely the current gen of mirrorless cameras are capable of 8K30p for a couple of minutes. Poor Sony will have to do downsampling to 8K in their R series if they decide to optimize the a7SIII for the best 4K image and fast framerates. This leaves little doubt that z7 mk II will have to do 8K and so will S1R mk II.

Hopefully, it does some stacking on those 48mp stills or else they are no better then 12mp.

The dragged out marketing hype campaign sure points to specs being overhyped. Seems like Canon is creating this awareness of a technologically advanced body for people to form their opinion on it before any real testing is done and then just brush away the caveats with rose colored glasses.

So far, I've only been impressed with pixel binned 12mp images from the first quad bayer mobile sensor. Every megapixel increase since then has been disappointing. These tiny pixels just aren't doing much in terms of progress, unfortunately.

The FX/FS feature conundrum - it is nice that it's there and that it works great, but how long will it take to trickle down into the a7 line?

EIS and IBIS are to different things and should not be compared. I wonder why Sony hasn't implemented EIS in their cams yet, since they should have plenty of know-how from their mobile division (although it is known their two departments were not communicating much).

Scroll down to this scene and also check out the zoomed in shots. They really are comparing apples to oranges.

The DXOMark review compared the detail of the 18mm shot to the digitally zoomed in 16mm and 13mm shots. I now doubt the credibility of their whole review process. They do the same with telephoto shots - compare the native vs digitally zoomed in from competitors. I'm sure this is the best camera on a phone right now, but not by that big of a margin. Too bad about the proprietary memory cards and lack of GMS.
