Canon XC10 versus Sony RX10 III. The Canon is underrated!
Tiago Rosa-Rosso replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Love this form factor and ergonomics. I'm waiting for it to be interchangeable ef mount with a bigger sensor and to have DPAF. I know it will never happen, but that's ok. -
If you were to design a Canon 5Dc, what specs would it have?
Tiago Rosa-Rosso replied to Michael Ma's topic in Cameras
I would definitely take the mirror out. Then I must say I like the ergonomics oh the xc10. But they should put a ff sensor there and make it ef interchangeable mount. Sensor readout 3ms or global shutter DPAF UHD 8 bit 4:2:2 2.5k 10 bit 422 c-log That would be cool -
Is the Alexa still king? (Actual question, not an argument)

But when you mean the codec is superior, you mean in IQ or in the ability to compress and still give you a nice IQ? Because I think pro res 422 and 444 maybe is quite inefficient in compressing but from what i see, i didn't played with it yet, the IQ is better with much less artifacts, feels more organic (whatever this means) and is edit friendly, but maybe I'm wrong, as I said I did yet played with c300 mark 2 footage. -

Pro h.264? Do you mean H.264/AVC? Or pro h.264 is a different codec? I'm confused here because I never heard about Pro h.264. -

True. But it feels like one. The sensor extremely brief readout time, minimises (though not entirely removing) the problems of a rolling shutter. -

My dream camera is a global shutter that is able to record 2868 x 1612 down sampled to 2048 x 1152 for ProRes 2K 16:9. It's as simple as that. That's an Alexa. No 4k, just great color science, wonderful DR, good ISO and proper motion. -
Don't you get strange motion with 1/500s?

Requesting a 4K 5D Mark IV! Werner meets Canon in Germany
Tiago Rosa-Rosso replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
What are they actually saying? Nothing. Forget about it. They are talking about the decline of something. The point they are trying to make it's something like this: you go to a coffee and you ask for a coffee without cream. The waitress replies: Sorry, we don't have cream, but we have milk, can I give you a coffee without milk. The costumer replies it's 2016 I need 4k, why aren't you trying to sell me 2.5k global shutter 10 bit 4.2.2. It's surrealistic, but in the the end what we need to take into account it's that nothing is always something. -

Don't get me wrong, maybe obsession is a strong word. I know that the companies that sell 4k tvs are pushing us to buy 4k cameras. And I have no doubts it will be the future. I just claim they are pushing in the wrong direction. I think 4k is easier to brand than color science, or motion, and the market is driven by marketing, by what is sellable. I'm not against 4k, and i know there are some benefits in shooting 4k, but I think the market has been driven by this push for resolution (also crazy ISO) instead of color science, motion, etc, merely because it's easier to brand and it's sellable. I would like to see a push in other directions. For me more important than resolution is motion, color, the quality of the noise, DR, and a light workflow. And by the way A7rII and A7sII bought have overheating and rolling shutter problems and they are not lower end models. -

I don't understand this obsession for 4k. I understand the frustration about canon not delivering a better camera. But 4k is full of issues, overheating, rolling shutter and the sharpness sometimes is not flatering when filming people, not to mention the workflow issues. The old arri alexa was 2k only, marvelous skin tones, great DR, very nice grainy noise, global shutter. I think canon should push on that direction. A small body, ef mount, ff sensor , 2..5k with dp af. It would be like to have a pocket arri alexa. -
No doubt. It would be nice to have it, but I'm perfectly conscious it wouldn't sell. The majority wants 4, 6, 8k. Personally I think this chase for resolution it's ridiculous. My guess is that we will end up having 8k cameras that still deliver 8bit- 4.2.0 with horrible RS and overheating issues.
-
Please canon don't give us 4k, it will overheat and the rolling shutter issues will ruin your reputation. Instead give us 10 bit 422 at 2.5k with a good sensor readout (3ms), in different codec flavours with different storages rates. It would be nice to have the possibility to record to hevc 10 bit 422 and also pro res 10 bit 422 HQ. The rest you already do right.

What I meant was, this XC10 design is for me more appealing than the so called c-line. I like this compact design, and it would be great if you could use other lenses, more fast and compact. I know that the c-line offers you this possibility and it would be stupid from canon to lunch a camera that competes with their own cameras. But from what i saw on your review this camera is more light, compact and less intimidating than a c100 or c300, also the color science is good, the rolling shutter is acceptable and the codec maybe is not very editing friendly but it makes a good job, at least I don't see banding, moire, aliasing or strange artefacts on most of the footage out there.

Canon is on the right track with this camera. The form factor is great. Just put a bigger sensor in it (super35 or fullframe) and make it interchangeable ef mount, so we can use the tons of lenses we already bought. Also it would be great to have dual pixel tech in it and the possibility to remove the hand grip so it gets more gimbal drone friendly. But there is a big problem with this concept, it kills the c100 line of cameras.

The conundrum is much bigger. Canon is awesome, we love Canon. I heard that at NAB 2016 they'll bring a huge cake that will be distribute for free to commemorate their 13th consecutive year has marketshare holders.
-
Not everyone wants 4k. The 4k workflow is quite heavy. But I wouldn't mind to have 2.5k with a good rolling shutter, and by good I mean something like 10ms or less. And please stop giving us this 8 bit 420 atrocious sh*t. 10 bit 422 @ 30 MB/s can't be really that complicated nowadays.

thanks for your answers.

Really sad. Maybe zacuto will release a firmware to add 1080p@60p. Or maybe not. Probably not.

Hi lance. Didn't quite understand. Are you saying the zacuto snap version doesn't work with the bmmcc at 60p or doesn't work at all? I have one and was interested to know if the set up works fine with this camera. thanks
