  1. -internal super clean 10bit ALL I 1080p, with a perfect downscale from 4K like the Sony A7s, all that in 24 to 60p -internal 10 bit 4K -VLOG -super clean 1080 120fps 8bit slowmo - 2000 USD -small battery grip like HDMI recorder with XLRs and HDMI connectivity for external monitors for around 800 USD no supernatural feats, just great possible features:)
  2. Hey Aaron, great colors and shooting on your vid! Definately "cinematice":) Your captures above show posterization in the shadows. As Zak has shown, 10bit seems the way to go. In the 8bit 10bit VLOG thread, EOSHD user bunk recognized impact of white balance on the quality of the VLOG footage. Hopefully Zak can do some more 10bit testing.
  3. Fantastic colors! Great shots too! These colors screem "cinema"! Don´t wanna exaggerate, but best GH4 colors I´ve seen so far, by a mile! So this is the definate testimony to go the VLOG route, I would say. Am I wrong?

    GH4 V-Log $99

Judging by Nick Driftwoods examples, VLOG in 10bit is a real treat. Threw an Arri to REC LUT on it and looked great. Maybe it´s because they put some nice lighting up for the footage, would say most definately so. It´s just not visible in LOG, but after the LUT or grade on top of it:) Seems VLOG 10bit is a different beast than A7s/RX10ii Slog! Can´t wait to see the first cat videos and walking heads in VLOG 8 and 10 bit
  5. Hey Fuzzy, Sentimental topic done with a light hand and great craftsmanship. 1hour- great job! Skintones looking good. Video looking great and very well done. I also agree on your statement about the median of video tech. Great write up. But VLOG on GH4 is really looking nice, at least the 10bit side of it. Nick Driftwoods samples were very easy to handle to get great colors out of. But who knows what nice setup of lights the have been using. Wouldnt see that on the LOG file, just after the Grade or LUT
  6. Hallo Max! thank you very much for your reply. So cool to hear from you on this! Your estimate of 5000 people willing to put up x$ price sounds very promising to me. Right now it´s us five so far. But 5000 people should really do it, I think too! If Andrew is exited by this idea, I will be able to feel this device in my hands even before I got a GH4:) Seriously, I´d love that 10bit in a handy sturdy package, DSLR form factor. So maybe Andrew can get some people at Panasonic or the supporting infrastructure interested and exited. "ANDREW REID Battery Grip Recorder"! "Companies .. struggling to meet market needs", you put that into words very nicely:) It´s also interesting that they so obviously ignore some very obvious basic needs, such as for sturdy cable connections and Playback in Portrait on the HD7! best regards and a Good night, Sir (getting 1am around here:)
  7. Andrew, exactly- huge gap in the market. And you gave that child a name "battery grip recorder", I´d add- with XLR connctions. But thats too long for a name:) Now you could promote that, if there would be some money earning opportunity in it for you, since pushing that idea to production level would be a lot of work. I´m no tech guy, but some on your forum are. Like you said, "wide open gap in the market"!:) Maxotics is an engineer. He could provide some first steps maybe.
  8. That´s what I´d love to see! What company would you propose or promote this idea to, if you were keen about it?:) Wouldn´t Zacuto be able to pull this off? People would buy it I think.
  9. Yeah. Just the combination of full HDMI, XLR, internal recording and battery would be awesome. All in a battery grip size package. But good point though. Found this two minutes ago. But still, "Wouldn´t it be nice", to put it with the Beach Boys:)
  10. Just wondering why it hasn´t been much of a topic. Atomos could bring it on to combine it with their Shoguns and Ninjas. The device would be without the recorder then, cuz of cannibalizing their monitors/recorders. Zacuto could bring it on. But I guess a camera cage with Mini HDMI lock will have to do it plus some Beachtek or Juicedlink:( I think, people would buy this thing with internal 4K and HD recording, battery and XLR, even without the internal recorder.
  11. It´s gonna be a biggie:) Just wondering, why noone is putting out a device like that. Even better, smaller YAGH with battery and SSD recorder! Doesn´t sound tempting?
  12. Hallo, wouldn´t it be possible to bring out a YAGH like device with internal battery and GH4 like battery life? As I´ve seen on this forum there are quiet a few technically well educated people on here, also practioners in the technical fields. Thinking about JCS, Maxotics, Sunyata, Axel and others. Is there anything out there with XLR and sturdy full HDMI or SDI connection AND internal battery? Havent come across anything like that yet. Why not going for a Kickstarter campaign. Guys, would you like to do it? Fame and financial success would be yours!:) Andrew, would you like to promote a project like that to your contacts in the field like Zacuto and so?
  13. Hallo Aaron, Was looking for some G6 profile for Resolve and found this. The author states, Portrait has the most amount of Reds. It´s supporting your find, which I will check out definately! I will be watching out the greyish spots in skintones and not going too flat, keeping color and contrast around 0/-2, like Zak Forsman is doing too- rather flatening the footage in post. So here are the findings about Portrait and other Panny G6 profiles: http://gro.solexiv.de/2014/02/panasonic-g6-color-profiles/
  14. Hey Aaron, didnt use the LOG converter. Andrew´s fine tuning was done for CineV, right. Don´t have a GH4.
  15. Hey video and film lovers, Messed around with an Input Lut for flatening the footage before grading. More messing aroung with curves and color wheels. Don´t know, if it would have done better without the Input LUT? Footage is lowlight. Rest of the info in the video. It´s G6 all -2 on Natural. Quiet happy, though I recognize the obvious flaws, not the less obvious ones though:) If I can be happy with my G6 for low light footage and a somehow filmic Gestalt, then GH4 should do easily. 10bit, killer! By the way, why doesn´t anyone put out a YAGH like device, little smaller with big internal battery?
  16. Hey Andrew, the fun part IS your footage. And I don´t say that for trying to play it nicely to you. Seriously, you got a nice down to earth approach, and it´s very classical. Only one time I didnt feel exited when you approached a camera and that was the FZ1000. Not my taste of grading and colors. But for instance your 5DIII RAW vs GH4 video was killer. Also, all your GH2 stuff. Liked you original version of the Bladerunner vid better than Shian Storm´s graded one. Though Shian´s GH4 music video done in Cine D!! looks absolutely killer! Your clear footage, not too over the top graded, is beautiful. Just had to say that, cuz your forum/place keeps me exited. Also, since I´m an Eastgerman and so not shy of pathos (don´t know if that would be an Eastgerman sterotype anyhow:), great guys like the humble maxotics, the wild child Aaron Chicago and the mystical Andy Lee are great characters to get a narrative out of! Oh, forgot the rocker rocker Oliver Daniel! By the way, how and what is Andy doing? And, very happy, maxotics is back! cheers and sorry for spilling all the honey, it´s a mess now:)
  17. Hey Aaron, is this 10bit footage? Wonder what 8bit V-Log could do. Doesn´t matter anyhow, it´s never gonna be available for GH4 cheers
  18. Hallo Benjamin, I would need to rewrap the mts files to mp4 if I´d like to use Rocky Mountains Movie Converter on Windows. Do you know a nice n easy rewrap tool without encoding, so there won´t be another encoding step and quality loss when rewrapping? best regards, Marty
  19. Hey, I´m very happy with the G6. Resolution is pretty. Codec doensn´t mind a little bit of color correction and messing with LUTs. Usually shooting all -2 on Natural, color mostly on 0. Kinda sucks for peaking though. Gonna post some examples and my short vid very soon. best regards
  20. Hey, would love to see some more GH3 stuff on Natural profile. On the G6 train and a happy traveller:) Will post a video soon done with the G6. Would you consider showing one or two videos of yours? Also, I dropped you a line on the lens topic. Seb Farges did a video with the 10mm SLR Magic. Looks great. He states it´s sharp wide open. regards, Marty

    Lenses

Hallo, I think Andrew Reid has experience using them, also Seb Farges, who does a lot of lens and anamorphic tests on vimeo. Seb also checks in here sometimes. So maybe you can send them a PM. Here goes a link for one of Seb Farges´ beautiful vids. It´s for the SLR Magic 10mm. cheers
  22. Darn. First one looks stunning! For 15.000 it better does:) Seems like it´s still a big load of money differentiating the high end picture from the prosumer tech. @Aaron, how close could you get with the C100 II of yours, regarding color and the kinda airy feel of the picture? I know it´s not a 15stops camera. Wouldnt know if the picture even demanded the full range of 15 stops though.
  23. Hallo Greg, the sensor seems almost on par with the newer m43 sensors. Looks like you pushed your photo 1.5 to 2 EV in Lightroom. Something I could do with a Panasonic G6 as well. Regarding to Dxomark, RX100 III sensor is a little bit better than G6 sensor in the low iso department, higher isos it´s the other way around. So for daylight RX10 II seems like a great camera on par with GH4 and G7 in the photo department! Would really love to see some more 120fps footage, if it has Full HD resolution like 24p or 30p. Not just on paper but in reality. What is your impression on that? cheers and best regards, Marty
  24. Hey again, maybe giving it a little bit more contrast on the shooting profile could get rid of the tiny amount of greyish cast? Picking -2 or -3 like it has been suggested a lot of times for shooting with the G6 on Natural profile. Did that and in Resolve picked an input LUT like this one: http://juanmelara.com.au/downloads/video2log_lut.zip. Got it from this friendly fellow man: http://juanmelara.com.au/print-film-emulation-luts-for-download So maybe in camera a little less flat and "flatening" via Input Lut in post, then your beautiful Arri LUT on top. Maybe that could cure the greyish cast?
  25. Aaron, looking sweet. Kinda fleshy and rich. One thing though as with a lot footage done in Cine D+LUTs: it seems in some shots there is some greyish tone in the skin color, very lightly though. Am I wrong? Other than that, looks like a Canon color parade. Or am I wrong on that one too?:) Thanks for the LUT. Gonna check it out. cheers, Marty
