Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
PannySVHS replied to newfoundmass's topic in Cameras
I cannot say much but give you two dear forum friends a hug in spirit and from my heart. This forum has been a comforting place for me as well. A puny little camera, nobody took serious back then for video, but you image lovers did, was my rock to hold onto in the roughest of my times, a black small GX85, my dearest trusty video mate. I filmed butterflies with it and my parents garden. I will never make fun of anyone filming flowers, except when they do it with a Leica.:) -
I don't care about S5II/X on my own behalf as I am not intending to trade it in for any of my stuff I am going to have to sell. I got too much unused equilment, so a complimentary camera instead for my S1H will be cool. At the moment that would still be my S1, which I would sell. A G9 would offer additional features to find out about, especially Dual Gain, Pdaf and punsh-in preview during recording. Wanna test that Towerjazz magic and new colour!:) I have seen lowlight comparisons with the GH5s where it holds onto resolution and colours better than the latter. I just wouldn't buy into mambojambo affected textures. How could they mess up on that. Flagship cameras, at least from Panasonic, should not have unnecessary image nasties like that. If a GH5 (ll) and G9 do better in that regard it is a step back, which is unnatural by the logic of a succeeding model of the product line. So, Panasonic, do your GH6 and G9II a favour and make them the much better cameras they potentially akready are. Turn off the mambojambo.
-
I remember to have read that about the NX500, which supposely offered also a 2.5K mode.
-
I just hope that Panasonic allows to turn off the mambo jambo with textures, what @Beritar was describing. Then it would be my S1 replacement and compliment my S1H. I am curious about dual gain colour. I would also love to have more "official" crop modes for S16, 2/3 inch, 16mm and so on, rather than a 2 x digizoom for 2/3" or pixel to pixel , which on the G9II in 4K mode is something around the 16mm format. Btw isn't Beritar a label under which Tokina and Sigma lenses have been sold, just like Vivitar, Soligor, Hanimex, etc? 🙂
-
Yikes. G9II needs one ingredient from the GH5 II, a zero sharpened organic image.
-
Something has to change. Duh! 😂 Let's simply not buy anymore stuff. Though some of the stuff I want to in. Before getting anything I will need to sell something beforehand. I want to trade my LX10 in for a LX100. Loved the LX10 as a personal camera. But that grip and lack of EVF... LX100 means 4K S16 instead of 2/3 as well'':) I have a second LX15 though.:) Bought both of them last summer from a fitness youtuber for 120 EU!
-
How was rolling shutter on these babes? Iirc, they are fine up to Iso 800, from there it's mush galore. Would love to test a hacked NX500 some day. But actually I should just use the gear i own instead of buying anything new or old!😂
-
I was gonna give you a lol emoji, but I want to support your effort with a serious face. Maybe with a friendly but sincere smile. 😊 @QuickHitRecord The last three years have been my worst GAS times by far. But hey, lotta stuff to play with and sell. 🙂
-
Totally agreed @TomTheDP
-
Acually he should give Canon R7 a try. Supposely nice colours and Pdaf. I find S1 series not effortless in Grading. One can achieve any thinkable look but it takes work. Jedi Master wants a heavy expensive camera. He now has to decide which one, if he finds time to do so.:)

Blackmagic states 65 to 162 MB per second, that's around 500 to 1300 Mbit per second. Long Gop of Lumix S series is 150 Mbps, so a third to an eigth of the numbers from BMs website for Q5. Completely different numbers! But would love me some internal braw q5 on the next S camera. And punsh-in focus during recording.😊
-
S1 and S1H cleanup awesome in post with noise reduction in Davinci Resolve, using their light 10bit LongGop. Great image pipeline. @kye Could be the best h264 camera of all when it comes to pure image quality and the best Long Gop in the biz.

Panasonic S5 II (What does Panasonic have up their sleeve?)
PannySVHS replied to newfoundmass's topic in Cameras
So, is there a way to lock the freaggin shutter button during video recording on the S1H? I accidently stopped recording during handheld filming, fortunately only for a few seconds. @MrSMW Other than that, I again loved the experience using the camera in a semipro context, filming a pretty kewl performance. Only thing I would really want would be punsh-in focus aid during recording. Missed focus a couple times. Btw, I had my S1 on sticks as a second cam for the master shot. Great sturdy two cam setup, super powerful but slim codec, unlimited recording, small for what it can provide. But my S1 has to go or does it?:) -
I wish they had added Prores. Braw does not allow playback on usual players such as Vlc.

Apple should rename their phone to Iphone SRV.😊 For me a LG V40 or 60 or a Xiaomi Mi10 with Mcpro24fps would be perfect to replace my old phone. Image quality in this video looks similar to GH5 in good light. Don't know how much beating the codec can take in grading. Will see some time next year when I'll get a "new" used phone. The video below also reminds me that a visually pleasing well shot video of lush sites and vistas can still be boring to me.:)

When i graded with directors at my side almost all gave great input elevating my work in a substantial way for the narrative and the quality of work itself. But it was only fun and to the good of work when they had a understanding und emphathy for the passion and quirks i am embodying sometimes when i burn for a project. When a director is not appreciative of the process it loses all its magic and the project better be paid well enough. The shots above look good enough to not to invest too much work on them.:)

Shane Meadows using BMCC on This is England '90 (Channel 4, UK)
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I just started "This is England 90". Love the characters of the whole series 86, 88 and 90. I liked the film but I love the show. Great direction, stellar acting and characters. After I'm done, which will be a sad moment, I will revise the film again. The series is already one of my absolute personal favorites now. I will reread Andrews whole article now on Shane Meadows and the legendary BMCC. https://www.eoshd.com/creative-filmmaking/renowned-british-filmmaker-shane-meadows-shoots-jake-bugg-music-video-blackmagic-pocket-cinema-camera-bmcc/ A beautiful, proud achievement of director and author Shane Meadows and his Co director and the whole team and ensemble. The whole thing is showing on the streaming site of franco-german tv arte: https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/RC-024379/this-is-england/ Shane Meadows is still planning on doing a final segment set at the turn to this millenium. I hope they will give him green light for this some time soon. -
Hpx500😂 I meant in the form factor of a Hpx250:) @IronFilm There are no 3x2/3 sensor cams in that compact size. Next thing would be single consumer 1inch cams like sony ax1000 or uber expensive pro models. Hpx 500 sensors in a 250 body would have been perfect and would be highly affordable now on the used market. Dvx200:) 8bit but a bit beefier codec than a GH4 with 150mbit in 4k, same crop in 4k like the GH4, making it a 1inch sensor cam in that mode irc. Don't know about the HD quality. For me just stellar 10bit Hd up to 50/60 with 3x 2/3 sensor magic in a EX1 or Hpx250 body would be my vintage dream cam. My LX10/15 has 2/3 sensor estate in 4K and i am loving the DOF characteristics at f2.8. It's like S35 at F8.
-
EX1/3 have exactely that, 3 CMOS sensors, 1/2 inches each @zlfan 😊 Still cool cams. Really like the EX1's ergos and lens with nice zoom and focus rings and servo zoom lever. Despite in a 10bit container, output over SDI is still only giving 8bit colour. Don't know if true 422 or not. Pana HPX250 is definitely a cam i wanna try. A 2/3 inch sensor version of it with interchangeable lenses... Nerds have different wants than other people:) A 100mbit AF100. Love the body and the huge eye piece of that cam. GH5II sensor and codecs in a AF100 body. Dreamcam. Nerds are weird.:)
-
Hehe, EX1/3 don't have CCDs @zlfan 🙂 Smiling, because I had been thinking that for a while. But their 3 sensor imager does some nice things. Codec can be brittle though sometimes, some 35mbit mpeg2 flavour. From my little experience, the EX1 and 3 are as good in lowlight as a GH2. EX3 looked fabulous on Monsters, for which S35 adapters were used and Nikon glass I think. There is a nice BTS on youtube, maybe even the film. Btw, Philipp Blooms colours on the EX1 or 3 look much, much better than his grading attempts on the Fs7, F5, etc. 😂 The HPX250 comes with Pannys 100mbit 10 bit 422 codec, some alteration even with the monster 200mbit All Intra. Unfortunately it is not a 3 2/3 inch imager but much smaller, around 1/3. There are no 3 sensor 2/3 camcorders in this form factor. Would have loved a HPX250 with 3 2/3 sensors. I have been fascinated by 3 sensor cameras for a long time for their colour output and have been tempted to get a HPX250. It would be my Andromeda DVX100 substitute.😊 You were not to buy any camera, new or old! @IronFilmNeither should I.😂

Shane Meadows using BMCC on This is England '90 (Channel 4, UK)
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Watched the movie because of Andrews article a few years ago. Now watching the TV Show and I'm remembering Shane Meadows being mentioned on my favorite video, filmmaking and gear blog for using the BMCC. I am at part three of This is England 88. The Blackmagic episodes gonna follow after that. Cannot wait, old school gem BMCC on a gem of a show! Minis series ist the right term. What an awesome it is. -
It's super nice and highly educating to read about all the different alterations of Red bodies and sensors. To read about Geoff Boyle is a very beautiful thing @IronFilm He was one major inspirations to me with his hands on attitude and to the point avdices he shared on his forum and in various interviews and videotaped:) workshops. I remember his evaluation of the Varicam. I remember him very dearly as one of the most impactful and supportive public figures of the arts and craft of cinematography. The original post of this thread has been narrowed down by og poster to be privately filming landscapes with 60min of footage per trip. A S1H will be perfect for that or a used S5. But you can of course buy a Red package for the amount of money you wanna spent and share your findings with us and maybe some of your filmed and edited material. Looking forward to it. Or get an Amira, if your hobby is worth to you a dime or two. @Jedi Master
