  1. You are talking about a G7? No timecode though on that one. 😂
  2. That´s exactely what I meant what all your videos show: I imagine the reality of being in the park is more exiting than the realness of CST of your tested cameras. All your tested conversions to Rec709 lack that exiting reality of a park that you were capturing.
  3. One poster- you must be talking about me. @markr041 I meant "thin and not overly attractive". Typo in the last word. 😂 With thin colour I mean a look like a crayon sketch on paper, as opposed to thick as oil paint on a canvas, rich, subtle, involving, like in a Rembrandt painting. But that is just due to the neutral palette left as is after the CST, or Lut, if that is preferred. I have seen some awesome colour coming from the 12 bit NRaw on youtube. It´s just a matter of colour grading and what one is aiming for with powerhouse cameras such as a modern Panasonycanikon. Would love to test an Z8 or Z9s NRaw. 12+ stops of dynamic range are plenty to work with for me. Would love to hear from deezid about his findings with the Lumix S5 II and Braw. @deezid
  4. Colours look thin and not overly active to me in the videos above, like ooc colours on my compact camera. But with grading that can be changed of course. Have seen some beautiful colours coming from the N9 on youtube.
  5. CineD and Imatest give dynamic range numbers. Btw, all Sonys are outnumbered by Panasonic full frame cameras. Alexa 35, Alexa Classic, Alexa LF, Red Raptor, Canon C500II, C70, C300II are the best dynamic range cams. S1H about the same as the latter. Alexas and Red Raptor in their own league. The Alexas are also latitude winners, the 35 a monster. GH6 in Dual Gain performing in latitude as good as a full frame Sony A7 IV. I love how my tiny 8bit LX15 responds in colour grading. In 4K though! It has a beautiful colour palette for colour grading but ooc it is nothing to write home about. But in Davinci some of the most fun and satisfying grading experiences and colours. Dynamic range is good enough for a 709 profile and for my taste. I like the results I am getting better than most stuff on youtube coming from 10bit Log machines and dynamic range champions. Dynamic range is one of the many, many parameters of an image. A7s2 had good dynamic range but aweful codec and colours. Log of Canon hybrids seems faulted as shadow area is cut off and does not reach full black. Still, I like the image I am seeing on youtube coming from them much better than most of the Sony stuff.
  6. Brandon has done much cooler stuff with cheaper cameras. Nicer colours too than this. 🙂
  7. Would rather take a GH6 instead, same dynamic range, worse AF, anything else better for my use, such as awesome codecs, framerates, colour integrety in low light, thick colours, full HDMI, innovative screen, framerates.. But first gotta sell my old S1. Though I could keep that one and still have a better cam than this Sony newbie, other than AF for video. A 100Mbit codec for UHD on a 2023 camera is so 2014 GH4. This Sony is not an attractive looking camera for my taste, buttons, surface, lines, despite it featuring a rangefinder design. But it will be the best of the APSC A line of Sony cameras, maybe except the classic A6000, with its nice 709 colours and creamy HD image and a convincing 50mbit HD codec for around 200 to 300 USD on the used market.:)
  8. Yes, it´s of the rather costly side though, 250 USD. Was hoping for something around 80 or 90 EUR. Well, if I want to mount my Konica 35-100 on my Baby Alexa Cinealta dream camera, well then I guess it will be the route to go. @IronFilm
  9. Perfect way to get back to some Cinealta F3 appreciation! 😂 @IronFilm So what are you going to be heading towards to with your newly approached field of computer science? Ex1 and 3 are Gh2 level regarding lowlight, bettering the Panny Hpx 250 by a clearly visible margin, going by the tests I have seen on the web. Back to F3, FZ to M-mount to other mounts is an interesting option if desired mount is not available for direct adaption to FZ. Anyone shot anything lately with this beauty or wants to posts some of their footage? 🙂
  10. Really appreciate the reactivation of interest for raw video with a smartphone. Thanks for restarting the already nice discussion in this thread. @Brian Williams Some of my favorite colour palettes presented on youtube have been shot with Eos M Raw btw, rivaling the best available light shots presented on this forum, bettering most. Raw images from 1/1.7-1.8 sensors in compact cameras have displayed some tasty colours, that from 10 year old cameras such as an Oly XZ2 or XZ10. The latter even with a smaller 1/2.3 sensor. So I imagine a modern sensor in these and larger sizes will put out a nice RAW image for video to work with. I have had success with processing Jpegs from old 6MPix cameras. So, looking forward to see this thing gaining momentum. Would love some manual focus fun and ND options and nice handling as well. 😊 @billdoubleu
  11. Awesome video! Exellent pro work and artistically beautiful direction and cinematography! Didn´t know you are such a heck of a filmmaker despite your love for CCD colors.:) C100 shining. Artistry shining. Loved it! Keep em coming, these gems! @QuickHitRecord What camera is your favorite one nowadays? Well, cameras, it is not fair to decide on just one, as there are many awesome cams out there, stored in our cabinets. 🙂 For the money you mention I would get a used GH5 with Vlog installed or just use the free HLG profile instead and save the money for other kewl stuff. Or you could get a similarily compact Lumix S5, if you don´t need an external monitor and the extra cost compared to a GH5, which would give you exellent dynamic range and lowlight quality. Or a S1 with better EVF and monitor than the S5, suitable for easier manual focussing @tomastancredi
  12. I once accidently left the stabilizer of my Canon zoom on and it messed up my dolly shot. Many, many, many years ago.:) So yes, turn that thing off! I like to remember that it was an accident though when I left mine on.😂
  13. Cool! What are you studying? @IronFilm Panny HPX250 would be something, with 10bit 422 up to 60p, juicy codec, perfectly resolved 1080p. No need to post shaky Ex1 test videos from 1982 and especially not that maaaaany 😂 It's flooding the really awesome video I posted before. Hopefully Nostalgia Nexus will get more followers. Btw, I posted Xaviers F3 videos before and some from the Swedish connoisseur Josef, also with a bit of writeup. His FS7 video like his others are all quality stuff. But since you are my F3 hero, I will stop bragging. 🙂 An extra thread for vintage beasts would be a blast. Another interesting prospect for CCD lovers is the 8bit 422 HD 100mbit machine HPX171. Effective Resolution is 720p level though, despite the 1080p label. But 3ccd with 720p, 422 and 100 Mbit it is kinda Andromeda hacked DVX100 level. Both, the 250 and the 170 writing to P2HD cards. Back to F3. Who would be up do a Cinealta F3 challenge? It has Fujifilm magic in it.:) Here, see youself again 🙂
  14. I started out fancy and the I broke it down to three nodes. In some shots I did over the last couple days, some extra fancyness enhanced the quality in others not so much. The grade for the video above was a treatment of the very brittle HD 50p codec of this camera. Also, the blacks much more compressed than on the quality bunch of the MFT cameras. Could be due to having filmed with Vivid profile, though I had nice results with that on my GX85, which is still painting comparably better colours by a margin imho. Though the DP I posted before, got some awesome colours out of the LX, still with some flat shadows. By that I don´t mean pushed down but flat out missing too much to start with. First I followed the DPs route and transformed to Arric spac and log and worked in front and behind the conversion with curve and CST back to Rec 709. For some footage that was a nice extra step for other footage not so much for me. I then got a tree of three nodes with gentle curves and fared pretty well. My video above is to brittle for my taste but I gave up on choosing between different variantes and I had to decide for one of the grades. Color metrics has been akward. Light was super challenging, Vivid profile maybe the wrong choice and 25Mbit 50p with Canon 7Ds line skipping not a good base for an easy grade. Anyway, I can send you the dpx if you like. @kye Cheers and thanks for the kind words. 🙂 Btw, stab works in 4K, but panning is a sucker, jerky and unpredictable in that. But in a pinch for little sketches it is okay. Works okay for static shots, even in tele. No comparison at all to a GX85 or other Panasonic cameras. Still a fun and very worthwhile camera! I will dig more into this little gem.
  15. Beautiful video. Title is giving the price of the F35:) The description got right though. Love again, how camera motion looks with several focal lengths. Great video, beautiful image quality. This video is a labour of love and the DPs voice sounds like from the Media Devision gentleman. If that is not a Sunday evening treat, I don´t know what else would be. Tell me in the comments section. Nooot:) Btw, Fujifilm imprint on the board of the camera. How cool is that! And no chroma smearing this time! 😉 I feel you, cause I feel the same. 🙂
  16. Hey, thank you for the tip! @mercer Sensor is smaller than from the LX15 though, isn´t it like 1/1.7 or 1/2.3? A Lumix FZ2000 would sport the same sensor as the LX15 or RX series, and 200mbit for perfect HD resolution. Still pretty pricey though. I remember you did a beautiful BW video with the FZ. Will check it out again. I got too many cameras laying around, now two more of them.:) I just bought a Lumix G1 and G3 for photography without having to worry about equipment. I got them dirt cheap from a seller who was so kind to give them away for 25 EUR both, shipping included! Love the old school menues. 🙂
  17. Hey Kye, it´s the brittle HD 50p on a 25p timeline, coming from my Panasonic LX15 compact camera. @kye 8bit 25mbps 420 prowess, with super high shutters:)The 4K mode from this camera is very nice as shown in the examples by a talented visual artist, which I posted in another thread. Compared to that, HD 50p is missing some hues for sure. But 4K grades pretty nicely. I had not been giving it enough work one year ago. But with a day off, I found my colour grading workflow and built some curves and powergrades for this lil marvel to get some beautiful colours out of it. Compared to the GX85 it is more tricky to grade. GX85 can be done in one node. This camera though needs some massaging. But it deserves it well, because it can holp up to the GX85 if graded with some efforts. These grades can be applied on future footage of course. A bit of a tricky camera to handle, slippery, flimsy, but with patience it turns out to be a true little marvel indeed. At first I didnt like it at all. But inspired by the beautiful examples filmed with this camera, I gave it a real chance the last week and with open eyes and mind I recognized this camera has a lot to offer. One could complain that sensor estate for UHD is 2/3 inch sensor size only. But then there are not so many 2/3 inch sensor 4K cameras out there, with a 36 to 108mm lens to fit in your pocket.
  18. Btw, I found the thread with best buys of og cams @kye🙂 So here is some S16 sensor size pocket love:) Love this little camera. Yesterday I was roaming the lil streets of a calm and humble neighborhood and collected some bits and sights. I then saw this trailer and figured, maybe I can get a small montage around this kewl 80ies vibe vacation waggon. Would not have been possible with my Sony F3.:) Anyway, here is some S16 deep focus pocket video:
  19. Now that! LX100 in 10bit and a lens with a clutch mechanism for MF with a mechanical like feel and operation just like the Oly 12mm. Olympus Pen EP5, OMD10 MKIII, GX85, GF1 are my favorite MFT designs. Exactely! Have bragged about that a dozen times, GH10bit in a GX body! GX7 or GX85 like, not the big ole GX8:)
  20. Last shot looks like a Knights and Swords film from the 50ies in these dream day for night scenes. @gt3rs Motion blur give a good anticipation of the action. I bet it looks awesome in motion!
  21. Hah, tasty post and read! Thank you, kye! Maybe I will give it try with the hack for the G3. But maybes are wait-bes.:) @kye We should still pull off a challenge of these small auto beasts. Darn, the GF3 is small. Thinking about getting a GM5 for the nice sensor, design, the legendary GF1 style back wheel and G6 quality manual video. That´s a maybe:)
  22. Yeah right "yeah right S1 video AF for sports". Nor about posting about sports pictures. I posted my good deal of stuff. Posted photos and a test video this month. Maybe you post some cool video for a change instead of grabs all the time. I didnt write about "S1 video AF for sports", but about general use for photos pulled from video. So, "yeah right", 10bit 420 24Mpix is not too bad for amateur use or in a pinch. Nice examples of your cameras AF for sports. Professional work. I gave it a like. I posted some photos with my GX85 two days ago in another thread. No sports, no AF. 🙂
  23. I won´t feed the spec hungry beast, that this thread is. But one thing I wanna say: For fine art stuff in my home it would be perfectly fine for me to do a large print from good 2K or HD source. 4K Alexa 35, yes please! Actually I got some cool old footage from my G6 I have always been wanting to do some stills from. I guess I´ll just do that. Not joking. Cheapest cam to fullfill video for photo wants would be a used S1 with its opengate FF goodness. 24 Mpix, 30p, 10bit 420, just like big juicy HQ 10bit Jpegs. So, gotta get outta here, freaking specs race is exhausting.:)
  24. You got some pretty spiffy video output from that all auto skinny codec monster that the GF3 is:) I checked, if the G3 was to be hacked for fully manual operation. Unfortunately no, just bumping the bitrate. But since Ptools and its documentation just look so chaotic to me, I wouldnt bother. Would have loved my super cheaply acquired G3 to be turned into a GH2 like HD machine. All auto, yikes! 🙂 We should do a GF1,2,3, GX1, G3 all auto challenge. Throw some all LX3 or 5 or some CCD bridge camera magic into the mix and we should have something going! @kye @QuickHitRecord
  25. @Evgeniy85 I got a LX15 myself but was a bit underwhelmed by its output compared to a G6, G7 or GX85. After revising the example from above I might give it a try again. I had posted it here before. I was amazed back then when I found it and I still am. The material just looks like some of the best footage I have seen from a GX85 or G7. Sensor estate in 4K on this cam is 2/3 inch only, so quarter the area of MFT. Same relation like MFT to FF. But since MFT is faring pretty good in that regard this camera should compare well to mft 8bit cams as well. It does pretty good going by the example above. Here is another one by the same artist, Rec709 8bit 420 glory, 2/3 inch prowess :)
