That looked really good. Then I see, shot of GF3. Wow! @kye GF3 is still sporting the same 12MP sensor from the GF1 which has underwhelming dynamic range and harsh highlight clipping even in raw photo. Hats off to your video, great colour!

@FHDcrew It´s a pretty big difference. 24mm to 28mm already is, 20mm to 24mm even moreso. 20mm of FF is something really fun and cool to try. You could get a cheap 20mm from Soligor or Vivitar brand. I might try one myself, though I already have and love my Canon nFD 20mm. @Emanuel My friend, I am a sucker for lenses. If you ever get tired of your Russian gems, I would love to borrow them from you some day. 🙂

Now that in motion, please.:)

Totally agree. Fits the sublteness, sujet and thrills of the scene though, but of course much less the atmosphere of a quiet and peaceful campfire of course. Haze should have been coming from somewhere to go well along with the sound by all means. But then sound was very well articulated and can stand well on its own. @kye

@deezidLike kye, I am a great fan of the HD image from the GH5, liking the nice 4K as well. It is a bit too sharp ooc but also high resolving. I must admit, VLog L can produce blotchyness on certain skintones under harsh conditions when graded towards a colorful cinematic look. You have been a fan of the 10bit 150Mbit codec and its image on the S1. So not that much anymore? Neither of the S1H 400mbit prowess? How comes your change of mind? I am pretty impressed by the former. Just having troubles with it in green enviroments with harsh light. But who doesn´t with any camera. 🙂 Looking forward to some GH6 beauty coming from your hands. How does it compare to the other 10bit 422 codecs? How is your general opinion on those? Prores update for many other resolution and modes coming soon! Many questions, I know.:) cheers

I think lighting was fine. It emphazises the subtle facial expressions and emotions of the character actors. Though they should have used a haze machine to illustrate the mood and atmosphere much better of the laid back lads enjoying a perfect laid back lads evening and activity. But the sound was a bit scratchy. I hope I got that right what you meant. 🙂

HD 25p has always been of lesser quality on GH1,2 and G6,7,85, GX85. @webrunner5 Shooting in 4K on the adequate cameras helps, that exludes the GH2 and others of course. Or film in 24p and enjoy the classic GH2 image. Congratulations, btw to your purchase. GAS is an akward thang, BMPCC in the pocket but still you needed that legendary GH2, besides your legendary AF100. 🙂

Beautifully written! @deezid Awesome to read from you! Bought the S1 two years ago after Andrews article and after your deep dive observations regarding an honest hq cinema image without nasty processing artefacts. Hope to see more sneak peaks of your projects. Your GH4 footage was and is a legendary treat for lovers of the little camera with the big image. "Americana" was the name of the piece. A A7S3, FX3 with the processing of a FX6 would be a uber camera though.

Watched your GH1 reel. Awesome stuff, great color and lensing. The color stuff looks stunning! Have barely seen any GH5 videos on youtube with that quality color and color work. Tells us a lot about the ones behind the camera . @Matt Kieley

Iirc Andrew wrote about rather mediocore AF of the Sigma. I think in his videos, portrait style looks much better colour wise than what he got out of RAW lol. @FHDcrew
-
Afaik, kye is right about clunkiness of AF when using the Sigma 18-35. Possibly a Tamron, Sigma or Canon 18-50 F2.8 could be a good choice.

100% viewfinder, that sounds like a great treat. @hyalinejim I´ve had a AE1 for maybe eight years or so but only once sent a roll of film through it. Now, years later, cameras are cheap but film has become expensive. Good thing I had enjoyed my Oly XA, Mju2, RC35 a good deal, among Canon AF35 plastic fantastic with awesome lens and a few others, Yashica 35cc with a f1.8 lens not to forget! @webrunner5 You could also do that with the RAW files or maybe even Jpegs from a good ole Lumix LX3 or Canon S90, which still give you a different approach and different feeling in the hands and using them. I enjoy taking snaps with my phone, but I also enjoy holding a camera. You are right about good photo quality coming from phones and the advantage of light weight, image stabi, small footprint.

I see a S1H, S1, S5 or GH5/6 as a cinema camera such as those from blackmagic. Great image, ergonomics, built quality and battery. Best AF in video for those who need it, no. Best image quality and codec, image stabilisation and camera bodies, yes, Panasonic. S5 going for only 300eur higher than a R7, offering a true cinema image and best in class low light latitude. Plus pixel to pixel S35 4K 24-60p, besides full frame downsampled 4k 24-30p. For Canon AF fans with 10bit love and good 4k up to 30p, the R7 looks fine.

Buy one of these choices. They seem to make equally sense to your variantes of wants. Or, if money allows, all of them.😂 Sorry, usually i am not up to cute remarks, but your last post, in context to your og post, made me laugh. Still laughing. This thread will go on forever.😊

So, Arri cameras loaded with Kodak 35mm film are bad cameras then? 🙂 My best "bad" camera seems to be my GX85, Ibis and form factor are perfect. Give it 10bit and call it GX Ten. Should be a hit and a great camera.

Colour looks partially too desaturated in the skintones. Colour in this video reminds me of some GH4 videos shot in Cine D and graded. Not bad but also not astonishing. Here is an example of a GH4 video which compares pretty well to the Fuji video imo. Dynamic range is recognizably less in some parts of the video. It´s a different colour palette and a good example of 8bit goodness under these harsh light conditons. At 2.10 it´s falling apart for a few seconds but other than that, not bad for an 8 year old 8bit camera.

Oly 17mm f1.8 (24mm in S35, 35 in FF), Panasonic 14mm f2.5 (supposely one of the sharpest mft lenses, 20 mm in S35, 28 in FF). First one has a clutch for mechanical feel of MF if I remember correctly, the 14mm is fly by wire without stops. For mechanical pleasure I would go with a Meike 12mm Cine lens, which can be had for around 300 USD. I did not like the 12mm SLR Magic but I (still) have the one with the focussing ring close to the mount. Optically it´s nothing to write home about nor has it the awesome characteristics or colour of my C-mount Fujinon 12.5mm which does not cover full image circle btw. @Kisaha

Hey, after learning about the R7 I remember some 1DC goodness from our friend @Dave Maze. He really put that beauty through the paces. I must say, these top notch hand ons from our own forum members have always been the perfect topping on my crispy eggs omelet. If ever a review like Daves handson occurs, lemme know, so I can get myself ready for a good read with omelet, milk coffee and grilled tomatoes. Dave even spoild us with BTS photos of himself fighting the forces of wild creeks, all with his 1DC rigged up, close to his DP eyes. Darn, quality reads, I adore ya! 🙂 @Django Even that elusive 12bit 444 codec applies the most outrageous temporary noise reduction in lower light, unlit situations. Just saying, C300II can be the worst lowlight camera one can imagine depending on the scenario. Other than that I find it a great image and very easy to grade. I used CLog3 pretty much all the time.

Creamy BW! Lookin tasty! 🙂

And off the desk the old 6K goes at 3.55min. 😅
-
Ah, Kye, you are my hero! @kye. Regarding video, a GH1 would be my entry into the world of 8bit wonders. I started with the G6, beautiful creamy, well resolving HD. I take pride in having used it until it quit working. GF3, well, touch screen beast with a hump. You are the champion of cameras oddities. big hug and shouts to ya! I will look for some of my G6 oddities and post them if you allow. Btw G6 was darn spiffy in emulating a look. I enjoyed regarding some of that stuff. Such fun colour response, once I found a trick. @QuickHitRecord made a Lumix FZ47 Superzoom shine with his grading moves.

You fox, you, if that makes sense to say in English, coming from German language it means, smart as a fox:) @kye

Is the EOS-M *THE* Digital Super-8 Camera?
PannySVHS replied to Matt James Smith ?'s topic in Cameras
Ok, guys. How do I set this thing up? I download two files: crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_raw_only_2022May30.EOSM202 and Dannephoto-magic-lantern_jip_hop_git-fd976067652d. Ones is 1.7 and the other 67 MB. I read the FAQ but still confused. Should I just read it again or is there another instruction manual, outside the depths of the ML forum? Also, the files are date to the 30th of May. Where do I find older builds, esp the one from 22nd of April which zeek was recommending for 2.5, 2.8K recording, which @webrunner5 posted above? thanks and cheers:) -
The suggestions above seem compelling regarding AF, IBIS and all in all quality. So, EM1 mk2, if AF is up to OPs demands and XT3 with a OIS lens. I would suggest to dig into more research regarding these models. Is the AF of the XT3 really that much better than from a Lumix G9. But then again, with AF lenses one has to consider the native MFT lenses as well. I don´t like native electronic lenses too much, the 12 -35 I find unpleasant to use with MF amd AF, the 20mm 1.7 is fun for slow photography. So, no superquick route to find the right camera it seems.:) A used S5 hands down the best choice. @MrSMW found the AF in video pretty useful. AF in photomode has been great with most lenses (except the 20mm F1.7 is slooow:) since the days of the Lumix GF1, so for more than 12 years now. What, ML Raw for the 5d3 is not reliable? I thought @Django you never had a problem with moderate settings? Still dreaming of FF 1080p+ RAW. As a semipro I grab a 8bit FS700 without a 10bit Shogun. But for my own personal pleasure I just like these other fun cameras like bmmcc, eos m, etc.
