  1. No, it's a camel in the beige desert.😊 @MrSMW
  2. Guys, I meant to say you cannot render out to Prores in Resolve on a windows computer. Sorry for confusion.😊 Dont know if version 18 changed that. Editing and grading, no problem.
  3. Panasonics 10bit 400mbps All Intra is their more modern equivalent to Prores HQ at 50 to 60 percent of the file sizes, when using 24p UHD or 25p Cine 4K. It would be intersting to see it compared at 50 or 60p, as the Panny All Intra in the Gh5 or S1H does not get more bandwidth for higher framerates. It's a good codec. The reason why a S1H got a go from Netflix for A Cam production.
  4. To me it would be S5, S1H and FX6 🙂 @Oliver Daniel I know people say AF and such, but I would say nasty noise reduction on the Sonys:) The two Pannys and the FX6 would be a powerhouse trio of image takers, if you don´t need PDAF on your DSLMs. I don´t need AF for video but with the FX6 I should try some time and rent it.
  5. My favorite comment of the week. GH4 would be plenty too with its 50, 100 and 200mbit flavours of HD. But then again, GH5 is a fantastic camera.
  6. To get back on topic. Here some Fuji Jpeg glory from our friend @Alpicat, which I found when browsing his youtube channel a few days ago.
  7. Yeah, on windows there is no Prores export as of Davinci 17. Dont know if 18 changed that. @webrunner5 One main disadvantage of Davinci free version is that it does not accept certain codecs such as the 10bit codecs from the GH5 and I assume from other cameras as well. That is not too minor imo. Another reason to go vintage and put a BMCC or BMMCC to good use in its Prores glory. 🙂
  8. So, Andrew, any news regarding the streaking problem of the GH6? And Prores update for other resolutions? If there was a Lumix S5 with full HDMI and a 15ms readout for FF and 10ms in S35, I wouldnt ask though. 🙂 @Andrew Reid A Sigma FP2 with exactly that, plus an EVF and a swivel screen, Panny 10bit codecs, now that would be a potential candidate for my favorite camera of all time! I just had a look at Geralds video archive and it´s all about buying advices for high value electronics. I enjoyed maybe ten of his presentations in regards of the structure of his reviews and his gentle voice. But content wise I am not in the mood for buying TVs so to say. Steve Huffs afterlife channel and acitivities were pretty unappetizing to say the least. I started recognizing akwardness in his reviews when all cameras were equally great just some were greater and his reviews got dull and duller. I quit reading around the A7R2 times. Gerald to me is a salesperson. Though very likeable, even moreso in comparision to the hyperbole influencers of this hyperboled planet. Planet earth is aching under the waste of oil, warmening and polution and destrucition of nature. No need for new electronics. A Lumix G7 in HD 100mbit 8bit 422 should have been all we get for the rest of times. No need for a Sigma FP2 after all.

    Panasonic GH6

Hallo Kye, why do you cite me in connection to your post above? I find it misleading in connection to what I actually wrote about the beautiful GH6 piece that I posted for all of us to enjoy or not to. I wish for a bit more consideration from all of us to each other, to what our posts actually emphasize and mean. So let me repost and enjoy this video.:) This is what I wrote: "Some splendid colour. They went a bit overboard with grading, especially the red cloth of the suit is oversaturated as oversaturated can be and some bluish tint is showing the joy of grading a bit too much. But as a visual sketch and indication of what the GH6 is capable of, this is really something. I cannot comment on the voice over style as I am not a fan of it. But a lot of talent and visual taste in this piece and great showcase of what to expect from this powerhouse of a camera. I hope Panasonic gets the streaking sorted out and follows up on Prores for all filming modes this SUMMER, please! Anyway, one of the best showcases of any prosumer camera and its image quality I have seen."
  10. I never owned a 5D2 but at least I got a used EOS M two months ago or so. Will see how that goes. 🙂 @Django GX85 is my personal 8bit wonder so far. On a sidenote, in order to avoid the gruesome youtube start screen I began to start youtube with a bookmark, which comes from a search for beauty couple months ago: kodak vision 500t. I higly recommend it.:) On a general note, some of the replies to my statement about the GX85 are making me question my nonnative speaker english diction. So again, I never stated GX85 would replace film. I stated it is almost overkill in regards of image quality one would need, not what one might want. Almost, I then continued, since films (movies) have been made with filmstock with its superiour attributes. That was meant as a compliment of love to the 4K image of the GX85. In grading one can achieve any hues within the 709 colour space, great colour response in grading, beautiful palette to work with. Now, the usual artefacts can appear sooner or later. So it is a little 8bit wonder to me and in the spirit of lowfi filming. Just as for the oldie 8bit dinosaur 5D2 I have a love for these little 8bit machines. I am still planning on doing a shortfilm in 8bit. It´s like slidefilm in regard, that it needs to be treated with love and care.
  11. 🙂 Statement meant to be and I wrote, GX85 is almost overkill- almost, since films still offer even more splendid qualities, those of filmstock. I appreciate the attributes of film, which you mentioned, but I am also often astonished how well of a digital emulsion the GX85 provides despite its 8bit 420 100mbit limitations. Artificial sharpness in 4K is much, much less than in HD on the GX85 fortunately. I perceive it absent under certain circumstances. I always shoot sharpness dialed down completely and use digital diffusion in Resolve. HD on the GX85 rather disappointing. G6 and G7 provided beautiful HD.

I wrote, the GH6 piece shows some of the very best colour I have seen in any DSLM promo video, despite that red of the cloth was oversaturated imo.:) My main point and emphasize is the beauty of colour coming from the camera and showing in this tasteful piece. It does not look unreal neither to me, as my perception of colour is very much connected to an emotional response, which does give me a feeling of something real. May that be real-ly dreamy or whatever. It is not realistic but of real suggestive power and giving an instant and real response relating to reality. So my two cents regarding perception, realism, realness. Not a third cent more though from my side regarding these complexes.:) Imo there is a thickness and lushness achieved thanks to the cameras capabilities just as well as from the film artists and teams side. I have not seen any spectacular unlit examples with painterly colour interpretation of reality though. Still looking forward to it. For BMD cams fi there are plenty awesome video examples of great colour in unlit settings. cheers and good night. 🙂
  13. @Alpicat Just zapped through your Fuji film simulation video for the Fuji XT4. Awesome stuff! I remember your vintage style add with VHS emulated look, which you posted here some time ago. Very kewl! I think it is that special kinda posts, creative output and some BTS info, encouraging discussion, inspiration and exchange of thoughts and support. Stuff like this needs the exposure of the main forum imo.
  14. Haha, you guys have a way of putting things. 🙂 Being a millionaire in California is a pretty lush way to enjoy the pleasures of life. But we can do pretty well too if not getting to crazy and grim about those darn specs all the time.:) I mean, Don, as you say, any camera these days can produce some nice images. "It´s what´s between your ears that counts" great saying by Don van Patten. @webrunner5 Now, these special effects videos really make me want to try some kewl stuff out. Lovely!
  15. Yeah, I think people should post their stuff on the main board with infors and write ups in relation to the used gear and maybe more BTS info. So tech discussion is invited and form and content in relation to it. That way it won´t be about just dropping your stuff, but still with content and thoughts for reading. The footage section is not giving the footage the adequate exposure unfortunately. I remember your GX85 footage and the colours you got out of that little cam. Loved it and your musical composition as well. @projectwoofer
  16. Afaik no VLog on the S1R, but HLG with the "latest" firmware update. @Andrew Reid I don´t know regarding the S1R, but 8bit on the S1 holds up pretty well, though the bandwidth and the codec itself make it no contest compared to the 10bit 422 150mbit masterpiece of a codec on the S1. (200mbps in 60p).
  17. Our friend @Alpicat has posted his spiffy 8bit lowres material from a 1000fps super slo mo parade. Just, it was posted in the footage section. For ever hidden not to be seen nor heard. But I love the colours, vibe, music and approach. So I am the gallerist of the minute and pull this gem infront of us, the image lovin, nerdy admirerers of some 8bit goodness. Just like @kye he shows us there is more than just 10bit overkill to please the eye. Here is Alpicats original post: " 1000fps with the Sony ZV-1 and RX100 VII I've been making some creative videos for the synth music I compose, mostly recording them with the Sony ZV-1 and Sony RX100 VII at the moment. I've been trying out recording high frame rate 1000 fps on those cameras - it looks awful but it's a nice feature to have! Here's a video I recorded entirely at 1000 fps on the ZV-1 (40x slo mo), since it looked so bad I added a VHS filter on Davinci Resolve to fully embrace the retro style. "

  19. Even a GX85 in 4K is almost overkill. Almost..:) We shall not forget that film was shot with film. A used G9 can be had for 600 to 800 USD and would be all the digital filmcamera one would need, with the free of charge 10bit update you can film in HLG and 150mbit 10bit 4K plus 100mbit pixelperfect HD up to 10bit 60p. If content is the attracter of millions of viewers then all kinds and brands of smartphones are already the cams of choice in this world. Cinematic image does not matter in the realm of quick and clever skits and visual sketches and ideas, even less when it comes to the modelling and body optimization videos.
  20. Holy cow! Is it the internal Prores Raw or the Nikon Raw or both, these are the questions. Will people sell their Z9 beauties now for the price of a used Canon 1DC? Hold it, Canon.. Komodo. I smell a plot here.
  21. Found a brandnew Gh5 for 1049 EU, used ones as low as 600. They have HLG which is nice to grade in my experience. Having to pay for VLog is not a smart business move from Panasonic though. Have yet to see a camera below 5000USD which beats the GH5 image by a margin if grading is involved. They all look pretty nice. Ease of color work in post might be another thing. Usuability and sturdiness are great on the Panas. If Canon got that right plus their AF they have winners. In general I agree with you on these cams, Glenn. They are interesting cameras at an interesting price. Full Hdmi? 😉
  22. They seem tempting just like the Meike Cine lenses or Veydras, which their formula and glass is supposed to be based on. They also have been tested in the field and if S35 and T2.2 is enough for you, should be worth a try. Darn, worthless write up of mine, you're for sure up for their FF coverage which they provide.😆
  23. I must insist the S16 joke is from me. But even funnier my splendid comparison of lineskipped 4k with the perfect HD from the GH5.😊 @mercer Canon R7 and R10 compete with a Panasonic GH5 or G9, both on the used market for 600 EUR, both with class leading battery life and stabilization, best ergonomics and sturdyness, perfect HD, 4k above 30p is 8bit though. But since 1080 60p might look as good as 4k60 on the Canons..😆 Buuut if HD up to 60p is good quality and if the image has the dynamic range, organic gentleness, colour quality and grading potential of the C300MKII, without the mushyness and noise reduction in low light, then we have two great image takers here.
  24. I like his presentation and reviews though. @webrunner5 🙂 Beyond that, what did i learn from Gerald? Hmm. Dont dislike his stuff. Very well made, just content wise I am not in the target group as i read a german site for some hard facts and i am more into finally using my older gear than buying a new Canon or Sony. Bought an used Eos M a couple weeks ago. That's gonna be a great joy to play with! I love Markus Pix' way of using gear though i for sure wont buy a Panny G100. And i am getting more out of his videos than u would have assumed by the thumbnail. Or maybe so. Great joy and some good infotainment. 😊

Thank you for your findings. The worst manual focussing i remember was with a thumbwheel on a Fuji X10, which a friend of mine had. So FZ with long throw fly by wire sounds no worse than the rest of the typical bunch. I will try the hack sometime. Will have to read into your enormeous findings.:) The top photo looks more lush to me. Which cam is it from? @BTM_Pix Thanks n cheers
