He was an Olympics champion too if I remember correctly (irrc). People loved the steam engine like powerhouse, the beast from the east, Jan "Ulle" Ullrich. He was like a folk hero. It was the not so common people who exploited the man of the common people. Big middle finger to Telekom and German TV for their hideous conduct.

That´s pretty much what I stated.🙂 @Emanuel Footage so far does not represent what the camera and sensor should quiet possibly be able capable off. But then it does not make sense for myself to study footage which does not give any hints to draw conclusions from regarding image quality. If I would, I´d had to neglect this camera´s image quality completely by what I´ve been coming across so far. But I´ve seen pretty nice 10bit HLG / Log footage in their drones. So I expect the Pocket not to disappoint in the image department with its 1" sensor. If wrong, that would be surprising and, well, kinda disappointing. But no big deal. Disappointment would be a strong word. Not met assumptions would be the better way to put it.

Kinda. I think the GH4 ranges above GH3 when it comes to quality output. I can recall about two videos from GH3 users which I found to be compelling back then, GH2 and GH4 dozens. Phillip Bloom has some decent shots with the DJI Pocket 3. I am sure it has a great image under sufficient light.

I have not even seen one video with the DJI that looked close to anything I would consider good. Knowing that DJI devices are capable of a nice and workable image for different delivery goals, this is a testament to the lack of will or ability of the videomakers. The Gimbal looks like it does what it promises to do the part. It is used by aspiring gimbal world champions rather than admirers of cinematography among the youtube crowd. I can feel quite astonished by some videos done with an old GH1, but this thing has looked gruesome to me regarding colors, not event to speak about the meaningless and aimless gimble schlimmble. DJI, 10bit, S16 sensor, gimble, this thing delivers on paper and it should in real world, considering DJIs achievements with their drones and action cams. But youtube fails to deliver that. Bad testimonies for an interesting special use or vlog camera.

I would like to include Jan Ullrich in this discussion. He was one hell of a rider. German media always bullied him, as they were never satisfied when he didn´t finish first and whenever someone else was taking the crown. They had their share when it comes to doping, they that is the media, press, adverisement and sponsors. They are guilty of being unappreciative and meanspirited about second places, about loosing a race without a place on the winners´ podium. None of these jerks ever won anything themselves but throwing dirt at people who they exploited for their ratings, exposure and advertisment. Cycling was huge in Germany in the Ullrich era. So many profitizing from Ullrich and so many never having to stand up for their deeds, and their participaiton in the doping system.

Just like some of the old geezers of this forum. 😂 Thanks for pointing out this lad to us. This film felt generic despite been produced in an unique way. Whereas "Monsters" was really inspiring to the filmmaking spirit and still is in regards how it looked, played out and by the way it was produced.

From what I know, Canon C70 should be image quality champ for under 4000 Euro by a larger margin, A7S3 is unpredictable under lower light conditions when it comes to mush. S1H looking a bit dull under average daylight without dedicated grading efforts despite its awesome processing pipeline. The humble og BMPCC looks beautiful with basic grading skills under same conditions. So I figure that colour science is still making a difference in my use cases for video. Knowing the limits and strengths of chosen cameras narrows the differences in colour quality under certain light conditions regarding quality and quantity.

"Grabbin a camera, going out and having fun with your friends" (at 43min 22sec). Great watch. Reminds me a lot of my video tape days, makes me wonder about my 15 years long break from video back then, makes me wonder about so many things. In 2015 I got back to video with hugely improved tech. I´ve had my waves of momentum since then. I still got my old svhs camera. It shall be a reminder of old dreams and of new dreams to go for. best and cheers

So what is your impression regarding image quality of the Ursa 12K as a 4K camera? Maybe in comparison to other cameras and on its own rights? Does it offer Braw in 4K as well?@majoraxis

True. I would like Panasonic to resurrect the brand name of Varicam and call their flagship DSLM something like Varicam VH1, with internal electronic vari ND, SDI, Dual Gain sensor, a cinema camera the size of a S1H. It could also be used to take photographs.:) Signal processing as pure and raw as of the og S1H. The DOP of the S1H Cannes film used a Sony Venice on his current Cannes 2024 entry. S1H was Bcam. So a traditionalist to the craft, but an open minded one to the tech and art of cinematography.🙂

But how come that it couldn't just be a simple google search, I asked myself, scratched my head and gave it a try. Digital bolex Cannes 2021, voilà.😊
-
Same for me.:) They must have shot the film ahead some time in 2020. That's quiet a demonstration of trust in a camera that has been released only a few months beforehand, to be used for a 2 million Euro production. The two directors have been nominated for the Camera D'Or with this film btw. Mission accomplished for the Lumix and the Dop I would say. Why Panasonic has not been taking advantage of such a testimony to their brandnew flagship camera, that question remains to be answered. I just watched through a 30min horror flick shot 10bit internally with a FX3. It was graded by a skilled post production pro. I could still recognize the mush at high iso shots. S1H has pro internal processing and image quality for cinema productions on the other hand.

S1H has been the main camera for two french cinema films that I know of. That was before Fx3 fame. This film was at Cannes in 2021 and was shot on the S1H. The actress is french movie star Adèle Exarchopoulo who starred together with Léa Seydoux in the Cannes Palm d'Or winner of 2014, which was shot on the og C300 btw. So here is some S1H Cannes motion picture glory.:)

You are the happy mate on the right? Happy aura is always a big welcome. No slomo though and no walking shots from the back. I'd say 3min super wide angle super hero micro flick will do:)

I would like to add, pretty models filmed in an uninspired way make any camera look dull.😊 @Emanuel
-
It looks like pretty neutral 709 to me due to post. Ultra high end tv news look.:) I would be curious how a Canon L 16-35 compares optically.
-
The whole pipeline counts. Production design, lighting, lens, filters, sensor, codec, post contribute to that. I've had awesome results with walimex lenses and gruesome ones. The reason for that were production design and lighting. I screwed up skintones with a golden reflector before and I messed up atmosphere with shooting at 3200K at tungsten, shot with a Cinecam. A sterile lens didn't help neither. Perfect point, because David Lynch can paint with any brush, I guess. Best option to just hire him for our projects.:) All problems solved. And Dune becomes actually something fun and engaging to watch!😊

That counts for any 10bit camera since GH5 days i must say. Even that oldtimer delivers way above its weight. On a note, @kye and @Beritar have pointed out an open gate mode on the GH5 Mk i / ii with downsampled 3328x2496 resolution, full 4:3 sensor estate, but in meaty 400mbps All Intra 10bit 422! GH5s has a mode of the same specs, so it might be open gate as well. Too bad in 50/60p, it's 8bit 150mbps on all GH5 models. Ratio between tops and flops is in favour of the og 2.5K imho. All these cameras are capable of very high quality images of course. The more recent models offering a more modern look imo. All in all i think the official material on the BM website looks splendid and I like BM Raw. The FF 6K is an interesting camera for sure. Now the users can start to show off its potential. Pretty models make almost any camera look good. Dull shots make any camera look, well, dull.😊
-
No 10bit in open gate 4k50/60p on any GH camera then, downsampled open gate 50/60p 8bit h265, only on GH5 mki+ii. Some cool "news" are: Up to 30p GH5ii offers downsampled open gate in 3328x2496 in 10bit 422 All Intra 400mbps! Wow! @kyeDoes the MKI also offer 422 400mbit in that mode?
-
Wow! But it's 8bit, right? Uhd and cine4k are 8bit iirc. @BeritarWonder if Mark ii has it and if it's 10bit like it's for uhd and c4k. Why's that? You said you're a complete newb to video. 10bit 420 is more than one would need at that stage of their cinematographic journey. How did your journey go with your FZ1000 from back when you last posted in 2014 until now?
-
That's rather cool! Maybe doublecheck?:) If so, it should have the same fov in both, x and y axis, like an uncropped photo. That would be pretty sweet. 50/60p 4to3 is 8bit though on the GH5, right? Markii and GH5S should be 10bit 420.
-
So it looks very much like there is no open gate 60p as it is pixel to pixel 4352x3264 and not downsampled from full sensor gate. Thanks for posting.@BTM_Pix

Sun is out today. A known German saying goes: Sonne lacht, Blende acht. 28mm on S35 at f8. Means I can take my LX10 out and shoot some lovely 4K at f2.8 for same Dof and great look. High shutter galore ahead.:)

The GH5II has been tested for displaying the best detail rendering of the whole bunch from what I read, high resolving but gentle. @Beritar Thank you for testing the Gh6 and S-line cameras and for sharing. So far GH5II looks even more interesting to me. None of the bunch does open gate 60p, right?
