Some GH3 love would be fun to see. But yes G9 has pixel perfect HD from the tests I´ve seen. With its 10bit and HLG it´s too easy to achieve impressive image quality.:) GH4 is my suggestion. @webrunner5 So, so, A7s, now you got perfect HD with not so perfect colours. Would make a perfect BW cinema image though.:)

@kye There is a variety of Varokinetal lenses that might do for people with budget.:) For me, affordable and small c-mount primes will have to do it. One thing about C-mount is that sometimes lenses get a bit loose and unscrewed. I had it happen with a very cheep 25mm CCTV. I´m wondering about a solution for follow focussing, which would have to be rock solid. I guess, mounting C-mount the solid way is not for the faint hearted and demands to glue or to be acted upon with screws. 😳 Just imagining doing this to my Tevidon lenses gives me a funny and funky feeling if you know what I mean.:) I think the BMPCC should be newer than the BMCC. The latter one being launched in 2013 if I remember correctly. Funny thing that anyone could look it up. But sometimes it is just fun to try to reconstruct and remember things from memory.

Darn it @Grimor. Having 100mbit HD on the GX85 would have been.. Well, would have been still the same HD which lacks the natural beauty one gets with HD from a G6 or G7. GX85 HD looks a bit underwhelming and brittle compared to those two. GX9 on the other hand might be a winner. Any experiences with the 100mbit and 200mbit HD from the GX9?

GH1 days, awesome @Roman Koenigshofer I remember I joined around the Gh4 days and have been a reader since the Gh2. So in honour to the pioneers of Dslm eloquence and passion, here is one of the first videos i ever watched in search for a large sensor camera, around ten or nine years ago: 😊

Bmmcc was introduced in spring 2015 and actual availability was in 2016. Was sure crevice had a typo there.:) Anyway, this thread is a highly recommended read for anyone starting with their bmmcc journey. Just got myself a Zeiss Tevidon 18-90 f2 lens for it. But that beauty will take longer to find the right adapter(s) for.

So save up your pennies. Blackmagic has stopped to produce the micro due to sensor shortage, as stated on their website. So prices might not get too low again soon. Hard to believe this camera was introduced in 2012. @crevice are you sure you got that right when you started this thread?:)

G7 has beautiful and almost perfect HD. It has a better sensor than G6, which has a beautiful image as well. Gh2 to my eyes has a harsh highlight rolloff and is weaker in low light than G6. I would go for a gh4 with its thick 100 and 200mbit codecs or with a G7, both with good color and the benefit of additional 4k. GH4 body is very sturdy and battery lasts forever, plus it has 100 and 200mbit for 24 to 60p! G7 in HD only goes up to around 28mbit, which is fine in good light. G6 needs to be graded with some curve tricks in resolve and codec is weak in low light. Though a G6 with 8bit 422 100mbit would be all the camera i would need. Gh4 being that, G7 almost. I filmed with G6, G7, Gx85 and Gh5, owning the first three. Graded all of them a good deal and Gh4 as well. Gh3 offers a pretty beefy 50mbit codec and should do better in lowlight and with 50/60p than g6. Watched some great videos with it, but never used one myself. For the price a no brainer with best battery life, great built and great HD afaik. Same battery like Gh4 and Gh5 i think. I really recommend reading and watching Andrews reviews. They are highly informative and entertaining!

And Christmas time all at once!😊

@Mark Romero 2 Yes, indeed. It is a different sensor though. Watching test videos shows that Varicam holds onto colors much better in lowlight than eva. It also offers 444 video in hd and 2k. I imagine the eva 1 being to varicam what a gh5 is to eva. All three great cams, but Varicam being a fantastic true pro tool for cinema production with an image up there with an Alexa and Red.

@Wild Ranger The look and mood of your film reminded me of a film which was also done with a GH line camera. Of course the GH5 trumps it by far regarding tech specs and ultimate image quality. But it shows the craft and care and right camera and approach for the film. In the end we will always be low end equipment lovers, even with an Alexa on a jib.:) So here some Bts from this GH3 image wonder. Wondering if the filmmaker Gami Orbegoso has put it out yet. You will find his GH2 predecessor on his vimeo channel, a 70min feature film.

Eos R seems natural in regard of your wish list or a used R6. Or sell your lenses and get a Lumix S5 and some manual focus vintage lenses. Would love to seem some old school Canon Ti videos. People have been doing some amazing stuff with it.

@Emanuel One would need to kiss many asses to get funding and much, much moreso to get distribution and sofore recognition in Germany. Distribution counts a bit in the end, right. They regularily fund and distribute highend trash, soulless polished garbage. Yesterday I watched a short from a filmschool, Alexa image quality, as it's filmschool and industry standard. But what luxury trash it was. So, no new sensor tech could have changed that. No new sensor tech will sofore open the gates of distribution for indy narrative masterpieces. More interesting to me on the sensor side is the fact that Blackmagic stopped the production of the Bmmcc, making it indeed a true connoisseur camera. Glad i own one myself now.:) cheers

Dear Andrew, Merry Christmas and best wishes to you! Thank you for your work and this magnificient place. I wished I had contributed more than I did last year. Corona and changing social climate in Berlin have not been so easy. So I always came here to give my soul some rest but didnt share much. For giving us comfort and for this creative community and much more- thank you so much! I love your latest article/blog post. Great photos of you and great lomo shot. Looking forward to contributing and enjoying the spirit of EOSHD! love from Berlin, Marty

Gh5 is using rec709 or at least a smaller color space than V Gamut is. I find it easier to grade for shots under natural light. The S line is using full Vlog and V Gamut. Varicam still has a different response and a very impressive image with its S35 Varicam sensor.

Congrats! GH5 produces fantastic results when used and graded with skill. In lit sets it really delivers cinema images.

I watched it yesterday and my comment didnt save. So my even greater pleasure now to express my joy and appreciation for your short film. I loved everything about it, the energy the rhythm, the visuality and shot design. Classic genre style in classy quality. I dont mind the rather "realistic" as opposed to stylised grades. I know the material could have been graded into many thinkable directions. Great stuff, thanks and keep em coming! cheers:) Btw, had some troubles with saving my comment again. Has been like that for me a few times lately.

Could be due to your tripod plate. I never had any problems with mounting plates. Still it is a lack in design to only provide one crew hole on hybrid video/photo cams. I really don´t like the mounting experience with my much heavier Lumix S1. Anyway, a cage would provide great mounting strength, but takes away from the graceful appearance and light footrpint of the camera. Maybe check for different plates I would imagine.:)

I´m sorry for your loss, Danilo. my kindest regards to you and your family

@projectwoofer i really enjoyed the images and the color palette. Especially liked the shots at 1.04 and the ones right after, great muted tones and lensing. What aperture did you film these with? The Mitakon seems like a winner. I didnt mind some blown highlights, as I really digged the overall palette and mute you achieved. Keep em coming.

Thanks mate. Will watch it tomorrow. I liked your video from last year, so I'm sure this one will also be great. I read Gh5s had an update for external braw with a 12g bmva. Anyway, looking forward to be watching your video tomorrow.

@John Matthews I own the high resolving 20mm 1.7. The 14mm is even higher resolving and one of the sharpest m43 lenses. Kinda interested in it as well. I just don´t like fly by wire focus. But who really does.:)

As colorgrader I have seen terrible artefacts in 2K 12bit 444 when extremely underexposed, looks like 5DII then. Not a joke though hard to believe. As colorgrader I have also seen fantastic possibilities in grading when sufficiently exposed. Give it some light, dear Canon users.:)
-
@kye yes it covers it in 4K mode and in 4K photo mode. 16to9 with slighty dark corners. Love this lens, colour rendition is fantastic and threedimensionalty is terrific. Little lens was recommended to me by our friend mercer.
-
@mercer S35 has a faster sensor readout, 15ms vs 22ms. 4K 50/60p is 10bit 420. S35 is still even using a bit more than a 1to1 readout I think. It´s a powerful image taker but takes some effort in grading. I have a S1, same sensor and all, just no swivel screen and full Hdmi. S35 gives me the opportunity to use some s16 lenses covering S35 sensor size.
