The OG Pocket is very appealing. They get rare and prices are rising though. I found a used one with cage and a Pana 14mm 2.5 for 300EU. I waited one day in order to think about it. It was of course sold to somebody else by then. The good deals are gone for sure, especially for the BMMCC. In the end the p4K is a good choice for s16 shooters and beyond, with higher framerates, Braw, S16 crop.

Panasonic S1 V-LOG -- New image quality king of the hill
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Thanks. IBIS is good. GH5 level imho. I stabilized in Resolve which was helpful since I didnt bother to dial the right focal length in. I filmed with a 25-50 zoom, the beautiful Tokina, filmed at either 25 or 50mm, having 35mm dialed in I think. Post stabi in Resolve works pretty well when shot with a high shutter and when filmed sufficient enough. Now you will test yourself and enjoy some amazing treats this cam has to offer. Especially absence of noise reduction and mush at higher Isos. -
Panasonic S1 V-LOG -- New image quality king of the hill
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That´s a mini Varicam for 1000 GBP! That´s a steal! @Tim Sewell I am curious to test some primes with it. So far I have used my S1 with little cheapo zooms. The 35-70mm F4 Canon FD is indeed a little beauty. Mechanically it´s flawed. Lens alignment is shaky once the rubber pads inside get worn out. Here is some footage for location scouting with the kewl Tokina 25-50. Sun was very harsh. It was a beautiful summer day, to say it with other words.:) The mellow contrast of the Tokina gives the S1 image nice smoothnes. Anyway, this camera is fun. Hard to believe what kinda quality we get for around 1500EU if bought used. Grading is a bit too greenish. Was trying to built a greenish Lut I guess.:) -
This was a tasty read. I didnt even bother to make something to eat first in order to enjoy this article. I enjoyed it right away instead. Also a thing that sticks out about the S series from Panasonic is the practical absence of noise reduction at higher Isos. You won´t see any mushyness but fine grain. A7s3 does not offer that, but instead it shows mushyness at higher isos. I have been saying it for a while now, my S1 is a pocket Varicam. I sometimes enjoy filming in S35 mode just for the special feeling of having a cinema camera in my hands. S35 makes me realize it even more, that this is a true cinema beast. The choice of cameras in your article is aweseome, fun and fundamental! Now I hope I can do the image quality of my S1 justice instead of lusting for a Sigma FP.:)

The design of the SLRs from back then is beautiful, so is the tactility. This new Nikon camera seems to only mimic that. I rather like a classy and somewhat classic design like from the Lumix GF1 than a camera which is mimicing the old. The GF1 is for photography, with 720p/1080i, all auto video. It´s from 2009, so it´s old in digital terms. It is the camera body i enjoyed the most for photography. Straightforward camera, showing what it is and performing like what its design is promising. Little changes in design often change the overall experience, not always to the better. The spiritual successor, the GX1 almost looked the same but never got me to buy it despite its much better sensor. Instead I pretty much left digital photography as a leisure time acitivity and choose digital video instead with semiprofessional aspirations, starting with a Lumix G6. The Nikon Z won´t get me back into digital photography, my GX85 didnt, but maybe now a GX1 would.

Your Sony PMW F3 looks like it has seen some good usuage. Sofore it deserves to be called by its full name!:) It looks like you have a tasty Nikon 28-70 2.8 on it. I think we depend on you to put some life back into our F3 thread. :) I start to feel I will sell my F3, as it is much heavier than a FS700. FS700 disappointed me though with very obvious aliasing in internal HD mode on my last gig. I have used it on two commercial shoots so far. F3 internal seems much better from what I have seen online. FS700 tests from back then didnt hint that direction and indicated rather flawless internal HD. @TomTheDP F35 sounds heavy as well:) Imagewise I find it fascinating. So keep em coming!:)

Darn. Good game. England won, well deserved. Germany gave a nice performance too. Good thing I didnt have a coffee before. 🙂

I would look sycophantly up in a dictionary. But maybe rather not. I don´t know who Matt Granger is. I leave it at that and won´t make suggestions anymore. Other youtube channels. I still admire some classy video essay channels, Tony Zhou, Cinema Tylor, Royal Ocean Film Society. I also enjoy channels on vintage photo cameras and other subjects. Just watched one on an Olympus XA3. There are also great contributions from people who don´t necessarily are in front of the camera that much, showing footage from vintage cameras such as old 2/3inch Varicams or F23 and so on, some CCD magic in 2021. Actually your reply creeped me out a bit. So I won´t comment on your youtube channel anymore, unless your anti-anti-stalking cops bring me some strawberry cake with some tasty coffee the next 5mins before the EURO soccer game between Germany and England. That will be more fun than googleing Matt Granger for now.

Yeah, plus, our F3 thread needs more input. I just cannot get myself to be lugging around that heavy sister so I rather grab my S1 for filming fun.

Depends, Andrew. Some suckers need to be told how it is. You dont. Still, you deserve to be told that above GH2 piece has astonishing colour besides involving compositions and choice of shots. And you deserve honest opinions. And after all, there are highly successful youtubers who are not part of a dull cam selling circus. I see you rather like the guy who did this video: What Makes This Song Great? Ep.104 Pink Floyd.

I second above comment. There could still be short 3min videos for critizing or analyzing the state of things, short to the point, witty without bitterness. Rather than calling Undone a guru, just stayin to the fact, that the testing cirucs is a circus of silly beasts or whatever. 2 to 3min pieces, once every three monts and people would get the point across. I mean, after all consumerism is a terrifying with harms to enviroment, resources and labour conditions around the world, epecially where employees rights are weak. And, holy cow, Andrews 8bit colours from the GH2 look impressively good, better than most stuff from modern high end hybrids like A7s3 or S1H. Testament to the right shooter with the right equipment in the right state of mind.

Gerald is a charming reviewer. I would love, if less people would get baited into the discourse of camera testers circus. Gerald does not represent that until now. He has been doing good work in his field of work, until now. It would awesome if we all would focus on contributing to great threads again, as we have been doing all these years. I would love a structure of the forum to bait us more into the filming section where people post their stuff but hardly get noticed for their work in that subforum of the main forum. Then click baiting would be a great thing. I would love more oldschool classic and classy articles like about the Canon dream lens. We never had a chance to see the trees in the beautiful photographs move their leaves in the winds, moving images. I think this forum could become THE major place for creative and TRUE nerd content again. Right now it is a bit calm on that side. The Gerald Undone piece is witty and right about the main points regarding the consumerism and camera hype machine but it is not on point about him, when he is presented like he was identifying himself as a "guru", which he never claimed he was. I too find it disgusting, when youtubers steal content from this forum and dont give back nor even cite the oritinal source such as was the case with the overheating problem of the R5. I think it is a major threat to original blog journalist and artists. We can go back to the roots of this forum, cool and involving stuff and not worry about the click baiters and content appropriators.

Colorizer Fujifilm Film Simulation LUTs for multiple cameras
PannySVHS replied to Attila Bakos's topic in Cameras
Yeah, I remember the colour titans Attila and Sage exchanged compliments for one another. Kindest words between these wizards. If picking up paid work, I will consider both their work. -
Roger Waters, legendary member of Pink Floyd, received an offer for his masterpiece "Another brick in the wall". Facebooks Zuckerberg offered him tons of money, asking to use it for their new Instagram ad. Legendary artist Waters replied with an intense "Fuck you!". Here is his reply to Zuckerberg, who he calls "one the most powerful idiots" and "a prick". His rant is about as impressive as Robert De Niros rant about Trump. He is discussing Zuckerbergs "insidious move to take over absolutely everything." An amusing and maybe hopeful rant, filmed not in 8k.:) Meanwhile people listen to Barry Gibbs "To love Somebody" when watching the new google ad.

image looks good in this vid. vid is very well done. good find. @kye. it makes me sad about all the gentrification stuff going on in (East) Berlin. A lively image for dead flowers.

Atomos did better with their promo of the polish GH5 production, promoting 10bit 4K60p recording with the Inferno. It was called born for the sabre. This looks rather generic and image quality does not wow me. Title is corny. And if showing a maiden, there are so many other great examples with poetic power. This is rather ordinary to my eyes.

@barefoot_dp I recorded internal HD, 420, 25p. 🙂 Still, the internal image shows more aliasing than the external 2K, which I shot many months ago. This time it´s aliasing all over. It looks like a Canon Ti or worse. This camera is known for a very clean HD image just like the FS100 and better than a GH2.

Dear friends, just did a one day gig with the FS700 and 10percent S1 in the mix. Was super fun to roll with convinience of super long battery life, NDs and a light tripod. I really like the footage from the FS700 for the corporate look. SLog2 HD 420 gives nice colours and image, when graded with love. I used a preview LUT, which I built as a DIT for the Arri Amira!:) Image is fine, lively with popping colous. So far, oh la la. But one thing I am very annoyed by are the tons of aliasing. Back then when I loved to watch camera reviews and vintage reviews even more, I saw the FS700 with a clean HD image, without any nasties such as aliasing or moire. One year ago I had troubles with external 2K, showin lotta aliasing whereas the internal didnt show any of it. So I browsed the web a little bit and found some info on aliasing in the highights. Well, any of you, dear friends, with experience on this subject? I recorded in HD 25p, internal, 420, Slog2. The F3 on the other hand is supposed to be completly free of aliasing and moire. But that beast feels twice as heavy. Here is an example, original shot and crop with 200 percent.

Darn, @Parker, you nailed it! Shots are all from the S1 or some from the GH5? S1 or S1H?:) I was close to purchases Sage piece of art. But then figured I will do it for a S1 only job! Last one was FS700 plus 10percent S1 in the mix. Cannot wait to do a S1 only gig, once I got my rigging set!:) cheers

The same for me @Rinad Amir, coming from the S1, image is mindblowing. So give it internal ND and faster readout, like 15ms for the entire sensor place it below 3500 and it would be a tempting purchase, with SDI out, no contest.
