I think, image quality is overwhelmingly good, to a point I sometimes feel like I cheat. You can always take away the super high resolving look in post. A few clicks, done. I still have issue with oversaturated blue caused by lensflares, f.i. from my FD 50mm 1.4. I would do more testing before shooting something sufficient with a lot of backlight in combination with that or other lenses. Colourscience is awesome. I can create any look I want from it. With Vlog, it is a cinema camera through and through for the price of 1500USD. @omega1978 The part with the couples kissing is conceptually the strongest. Rhythm is good, even for viewers like me to keep on track, even without interest in an immediate wedding.:) Good and solid work. Music is not my friend in this video.:) Future couples will like your video. Well done and thank you for showing! Grading is a bit on the saturated side, well, it looks like a wedding video:) Couples looking good, which is most important for a wedding video. They will book you, I am very sure. cheers

Puh, gender equality- something the world is far away from. So many people worldwide even get killed just because of their gender. Let´s not take this topic light hearted like a dull Hollywood shmockbuster. Thank you. The way some people here juggle with terms is breathtaking. -

@joenyc I think your article about Andrews article is about as harsh as his. I like both of your articles. I agree on your notion, that the outcry against abuse and degradation and objectivation from men has been and still is too little. What makes Andrews article interesting is, how feminism has been exploited by powerful, white people giving us white, superfit, sexy superheroes as a prime example of feminism with exactly the same range of emotions as the typical powermongers and narcists have, namely none. Stealing the cause is a typical tactic of info war since the invention of lying. Hollywood superstars or influencers (car sales people of the new millenium:) should not be relied on as prime examples of feminism. What I dont like about Andrews article is certain logic about communism and liberalism and what not. What I dont appreciate about your article is the tone and the insults and some conclusions. I dont have to do a profound testimony on that. I would have to do that in a dictatorship though. But thats the great hard earned achievement and comfort of democracy, I can just leave it at that for this forum. I can still be wrong regarding a discussion of this magnitude in an online forum! And I will proved wrong. A discussion is a team effort after all. I leave it at that. Stay safe and calm and take both Joenycs and Andrews points into consideration. -

Hey, a big bearded man lived for a while in London, 150 years ago. He wrote some substantial stuff regarding economics and so on. Yes an utopic vision. The scarecrow of not so foxy not news and the yello hair weirdo who will have another job in three weeks. Your are still young, Andrew, like me:) You are still allowed to have utopic visions for a better living for everyone. I assumed M1 was manufactured in California. Anyway, give us more of your nerdism and passion for filmmaking and screw the rest. Remember your stuff from 2010 to 2015, legendary pieces and articles!!! There is no way around what we want, even though some of us still love dull spec lists, yawn! @Andrew Reid -
Darn, boy, you put a whole lotta videos in this thread. How many do you think have I watched. You are a movie producer. I am much more interested in your own stuff! @Emanuel It is so much more interesting. You would still be allowed to be a nerd of course. 🙂 cheers, Marty

Why noone except MrSMW showing footage. It´s getting dull in a thread about a fantastic camera. Well here is some S1H showing off the potential of what you and me could achieve too with either a S5 or a S1. I have posted three own S1 vids, so lets keep em coming and let them being discussed as well. So, here it goes S1H showing off for her sisters S1 and S5. Monster cinema cameras unleashed.

Andrew Reid on Filmmaking: When the truth is so awful, only liars win
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@helium People care. They are just being distracted ALL the time. Thats the business model of the "attention economy". It takes trillions of dollars to make people not to seemingly care. It is not an easy undertaking to make these zombies out of us. So art makes a difference. Otherwise you would not have written your post. Contribution is far ahead from most of us but we will see how our kids will do without being like zombies or egomaniacs. World Literature- you mean 11th ce german literature included?:) What is that 101 thing anyway, decimal number 5?:) -

Great write up. Except that communism is not the right scarecrow, as it is an utopy for the better of humanity. Stalinism was a monsterous dictatorship. Already two and a half decades later Tarkovskji made the masterpiece Solaris, before that the grand masterpiece Ivans childhood. China is not communist but imperialist, building an imperium to hopefully not to rule the world some day. Apple M1 is manufactured in Cali, right? Iphone not though, we know where and under what conditions and for whom. My S1? Well. -

The core of your website and forum is interesting nerdom and original posts. I think some of your gem like threads need to be curated and repositioned in this forum to get more exposure. I mean the Eos-m digital Super8 thread or your main blog posts about Lomo lenses (beware:) or other classics. Maybe people can contribute articles like on Steve Huff. Does that change the internet. No. But it will prevent us from having to leave the internet and camera nerdom completly behind. Some nerds left this site because of misunderstandings. Regain momentum with your own nerdom and joy of the arts and the nerdom of others as well. Andrew, you hardly interact anymore. Sharing footage and discussion needs to be more present on this forum. Sometimes the quality of reposts should be curated or advised. So much potential for this site. Challenges. You know, the universe is exlored by the right questions and so is the art of cinema, by putting up the right challenges. The 250eu camera challenge was a good start. -
My camera of the year, is the quasi S5, my Lumix S1, though from last year! After the update with internal 6K, external Prores RAW and internal 4K 60p 10bit it is state of the art. Best image in town below 6000 USD. My other camera of the year is my vintage Sony PMW F3. To me EOSHD was always about regeneration of senses, relaxation and inspiration. Never about industry or pandemics. The pandemic is a monster, so is the responsible lifestyle of billions of people, which exploiting resources, animals, humans and health. It would be possilbe to have a completely different quality of living in this world. This assurance is a source of hope. Art is hope. Cinema is art. Or is it? Cinema is cinema. That´s all to it. A lot of people are doing good things. The monsters have always been raging. Now the world has this: youtube hyperbole and AI pushing agendas. Give cinematic findings more curation, give nerdy gems more curation and exposure! @Andrew Reid Don´t worry about Youtube. The crappy part of youtube will implode some day. Gems like this as have been posted on this forum on threads such the "digital super8 eos-m" one. Happy New one, dear friends! 🙂

@kyeWhy, you wanna have some? 😉 Question is, was Kaylee zipping from "those little barrels" before sharing the experience?:) But you are right, what´s in the barrels?

Grab a used Lumix S1 with VLog update for 1500 squids. Best image to price ratio by a large margin that it should be forbidden. Plus exellent 24Mpix images and some extra highres 80MPix mode for tripodshots. @IronFilm Wouldnt you want to inspire to spent a bit more money, since you pleased yourself with an unplanned purchase just recently. We still wait for the big reveal. 🙂 A7s2 is a total super stinker compared to a S1. I did some event filming with it this summer in rec709 400-800 iso, codec fell arpart like a card house in the wind of an elephants fart. That camera is a stinker unless you need night vision with fugly artefacts. For S35 lovers- you can shoot with the S1 in quasi S35- APSC mode, just like a XT3 but with superiour noise appearance and mucht better processing. Beautiful IBIS. Colour...

Merry Christmas, dear friends! Have a beautiful time and transition to 2021! Thanks Andrew and everyone for this community!

Thank you, Mark! Now German Schlager music counts on you as a loyal fan! 🙂 But beware, our classy song is rather in the tradition of the french "Chanson" and is not typical for the average modern Schlager. Thanks you very much guys for your kind comments! I would love it, if people would share and discuss more of their work, exercises and tests. It would still get technical enough for the nerds among the Eoshd fans.:) By the way, I almost forgot to mention, the other lens on the S1 was the beautiful Tokina 70-210 f3.5, a low price one touch push zoom, with super light weight, high resolving and with splendid character wide open, as you can see at 2.29min, where Stella, our female lead and singer, is pointing the gun to the outside of the frame from left to right. Merry Christmas again, dear friends! cheers

Hallo dear friends, I wish you all happy holidays! This is a music video from a winter short we did this summer, which I dped with a friend of mine. A charming journey of roughed up singer Stella who is rushing through the city on Christmas eve, with Schmalz and Pathos of German Schlager music. I wish you all a peaceful time. It is family and friends we find most comfort in. But also some campy fun and vintage lenses in these harsh times. Lens used with my S1 is a beautiful and cheap Unitor (Soligor, Hanimex) 35-70 2.5-3.5. C300 performed with conventional Walimex lenses. Love from Germany. Stay save, dear friends! best, Marty

So, here goes a Musikvideo to our shortfilm we shot this summer, Christmas in summertime:) I was DP with a friend of mine. Additionally I did the lights and my buddy will hopefully exchange the favour in doing a splendid edit. Nothing interesting about lensing in this video, besides one lens I had mentioned before and which Andrew bought afterwards as well. We filmed with C300II and Walimex lenses and my S1 with the beautiful Unitor 35-70 2.5-3.5. Really love this lens only thing to dislike is the vari aperture. Soe even filming in 3.5 it will change on the long end. S1 was running the slim 10bit h265 codec with 420 colour and 75mbit. The lens is a real keeper. Used in FF and APSC crop. It has nice resolution and colour and a soft quality to it, very nice mechanically. It was pretty high regarded back then under the labe of Soligor. You can find them also under the Hanimex and other labels. So here we go and Merry Christmas, dear friends!

@mercer Happy holidays too, dear Glenn and everybody! Black magic micro. You are one brave man.:) A perfect setup for this is tricky and pretty expensive. The original Pocket has risen in price again, running around 500USD, the Micro for much more. Would love to see your gem coupled with some of your c-mount lens treasures!

Sony a7S III ... for a cinematic look/feel? Or look elsewhere?
PannySVHS replied to bonesandskin's topic in Cameras
I second that. The S1 with the Vlog update has an image too good to believe. No mushyness at all. Still gooling over the S1H for the OPLF filter. Maybe I should be goolin over some filming ideas instead and film something worthwhile with my S1. Seriously I feel ashamed not using this or any camera much these days. S1 is a cinema image quality powerhouse. -
I love 2x zooms. Change in focal length opening the realm of a different state of mind and being. Just two states of 35 and 70 are good enough to always be connected to its implicite message: change of approach, view and perspective. I love to study films which are classy but not hyperpopular. Gives me more control about not being influenced by the conclusions of others or what others might see in it. Instead of studying the current masters I would study their masters or study nonmasters or other fields of art or other genres and types of film and filmlength or sujet. Like Hitch said something like, if they go wide I go tight, if they go tight I go wide. Same with studying the arts in a way but not by principle. You know what I mean.:)

Nice thumbnail.:) @Matins 2 Daguerreotype, right. Pristine film look would be possible with a BMPCC as the cheapest option, in 4K one could try a used G9 in HLG with the 10bit update for 600 or 700usd. I already got a run for my money years ago filming 8bit HD, in natural profile and 100mbit with the GH5, because the 10bit codec was still new for Davinci Resolve :) Mission accomplished:) For even mored dependable results use a PMW F3 with its external 10bit output. They gotten more expensive now due to their good rep. Would love to get my hands on a F5 or shoot something meaningful with my F3 first. :)

@JordanWright No, don´t finish this thread. Always beautiful to see that Tokina in action. I have it in Nikon mount and it still waits to be used much more. Such a gem!

@herein2020 great job on that shitty lights footage, nice grade! It looks like it was from an italian cinema masterpiece. Compliments to you but the camera as well. The S1, S1H, S5 cameras are image quality wonders in the form factor of a prosumer camera. Hard to believe my eyes whenever I grade the footage coming from my S1.

Loved it. Well done! Thank you for sharing!
