Canon Cinema EOS C70 - Ah that explains it then!
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
S1H ticks a lot of boxes of the X70 other than internal NDs and AF. Codecs and the image itself are of proven quality. Would love to see a comparision. The older Canon C300ii is infamous for its plastic look at higher isos and lowlight due to nasty noise reduction. S1H has an artefact free cinematic image which betters the C300ii easily in certain situations. S1H might be the better choice for those who dont need AF or NDs and who want to shoot 6K on a virtual sensor size of approx. 50 x 34mm with a Pentax or Mamyia middle format speedbooster or with its full physical size of 36 x 24 mm. -
But only if the actors are up to high speed stuff too:) Great job with the angles, pace and editing! Now we want to see some scandinavian Samo Hung action. 🙂

Yeah, FS5 for 1500-1600 USD would be some adequate way to spend some money on, I must say. 🙂

Beautiful image! So do you think 422 would come close to the quality of a 444 recording with the F3? The GH5 records beautifully gradeable and then beautiful looking colour! Do you mind to show us the beautiful video too? We all love that F3 look for a nicely illumnated setting! Would be awesome if you could show us some bits of that footage in motion! cheers What I love about the F3 is the locking FZ mount and the quality of adapters, super sturdy and pro quality! Emount on Fs700 or Fs5 is like from a DSLM. Still great cameras. A silly thing on my F3 is the on/off slider, which works fine though but still is very flimsy, super filmsy. It doesnt ooze confidence. Other than that, the outlook of filming thick and perfect HD with it, once I got my BMVA 5inch, is a joy I am looking forward to.

Exactely, you can assing any function to a button, stabilizer and focal length option as well. It is a two-push-setup. Push once for stabilizer menu and push another button to choose focal length. Very easy, intuitive and comortable. So, anyone with the S5, framerates above HD 60p are all 8bit right? That 120p HD 10bit is still a benefit to the S1H only I think. @TheBoogieKnight No exernal 10bit without the update afaik plus only with Ninja or Shogun Inferno. I have a Shogun Flame and didnt record it. It´s only working as a display with my S1.

@bjohn My Lumix S1 and also my small GX85 allow customization of buttons masterfully. So should the S5 do that perfectly.
-
@MrSMW Yes, for me it would have been perfect with full HDMI, which the S1 has. S1 on the other hand needs a paid Upgrade for 10 bit and Vlog and still does not have 10bit for 4K60, which the S5 has. Indeed, so close. I guess i will have to pay the 200 EUR for the update and still be without 10bit for the 4K60 as of now. S1H has both but is too expensive for me.

I do. I love it. Gives directors a bit of control over the image I am filming. 🙂 Full HDMI might be good enough. But so would be a Lumix S5, if AF is not needed as a substitute for manual for video. 2000 vs 6000 EU cash. Would be interested to see their 4k60 in comparision. C300iii sensor is a beast though. Will see how X70s processing fares. C300MKii had some nasty temp noise reduction artefacts at low light. One couldnt really tell when. Sometimes it shown up, sometimes it didnt. -
@MrSMW Give it a run for its money and milk its incredible image quality. Film some Vlog footage at 4000iso with minimal lighting power of your romantic interest and drool over these skintones. Btw I think Vlog needs a a bit of grading effort and love otherwise I find it a bit sterile. Does it have 10bit, even though 420, for the 120fps?

That ultimate image quality of the S series has its price. 🙂 @MrSMW

No SDI, that we won´t forget, neither the cripple hammer which is still bugging users with overheating of the R5. Ten minutes waits after 20min shooting. Who will forget that? lol @Video Hummus I would say, 4k120p on the R5 does not look better thant HD120p on the S5 to my eyes witnessing the footage on youtube. Whats the sense in it then. 5500 vs 2000 shows in the HFR department of course. And it should. S5 is appealing to those who dont need AF or monitoring for directors. -
Well for AF depending shoots, look elsewhere. Micro HDMI is a bummer too. I will keep my S1 for the monitoring via full HDMI and hopefully Pana will give us S1 owners 10bit 4k60 Super35 via update. @Andrew Reid would you mind talking to Pana and suggest to them a humble firmware update for S1 owners, since the S5 has been so generously blessed with codecs, VLog and swivel screen. 🙂

No SDI. What a shame. Some directors like to see an image on their monitors, right! For image quality only I wouldnt buy it. For that price it needs to have SDI. I second that, 2x S5 plus one Mamiya 645 speedbooster and two middle format lenses- Hallo IMAX! :), plus a dummy FD adapter and two Canon FD lenses instead. How about a YAWG thing with battery for the S5, Panasonic? -
Rolling shutter of the A7Siii is impressively low. Image on the S5 is free of artefacts and digital oddities. I would say it is the better image. As far as lens choices go, some people do shoot with manual lenses. A7Siii would have been tempting if with the image quality of a S5, which by the way has a rolling shutter of 10ms in S35 mode. The long gop codec, if the same as in the S1, is much slimmer than it is on the A7Siii and is performing impressively well. AF is much better on the A7Siii, of course. A7siii with 4k up to 120p full frame plus astonishing AF is indeed something people will take advantage of and will enjoy. I think it's super cool, that we have this crazy camera tech and that we are relaxed about it and wish eachother enjoyment with their cams. Very well said @Trek of Joy!
-
@Dave Maze I think S5 puts out a better image for half the price in a prettier body. Now I wanna see your face drool all over that beauty. 🙂 Camera 1 is Alexa, right! I betcha! Well, you guys watch yourself and guess.:)
-
I totally second that. If S5 only had full HDMI for a sufficient monitor setup in a indie cinema enviroment, which includes good manual focus pulls. That way I have a S1 with an additional 200 EUR to pay for 10bit VLOG, still without 10bit 4K60, which the S5 got in S35 mode. So, shelling out 200 EUR to have 10bit plus full HDMI minus 10bit 4k60? Maybe I just sell the S1 and be happy with my FS700 external 10bit 4K60 and HD240p via SDI, full frame with my Speedbooster! For the whole setup I didnt pay more than I paid for the S1 without 10bit.

Would anyone be interested in a camera gear reviewer ethics website?
PannySVHS replied to John Matthews's topic in Cameras
Sounds interesting. Maybe it has an synergetic effect on a genereal understanding of the grammar of truth. Review sites draw just the right audience to be interested enough in the truthfulness of reviews and being interested on spending their hard earned money comeptently. The geekyness of the subject and readers might implement a general curiosity which could transfer to subjects as climate change and such as well. Yes, a site like that would be cool with great effects on educating about truth in general. -
@MrSMW The S1 offers a 4K or 6K photo mode, either in H265, 10bit, 420 or 8bit in h264, 6ish K or the latter in 4K APS-C. You can save them as Jpegs or keep them as video files. No APS-C raw files though.

Now you tell me this is filmed in 422 and I can buy a cheapo BMVA rather than a bulky Pix or Gemini.:) Beautiful tones and shot! Which one of the SLOG uses did you apply, the one which Ben (Ericson) described in this thread or the one from Renaissance Man? Did you lit with Tungsten?

Magic Lantern 3.3k 16:9 RAW now with real time preview
PannySVHS replied to hyalinejim's topic in Cameras
Hmm, tastiest of all threads! Besides the Eos M Super8 one or the lens thread or the BW on 8bit, of course.:) In the same league as the best of Eoshd classics. Anyway, such a fun thread. I love the these kind of youtube links, to some cool characters who provide great knowledge in an enjoyable way. Zeeks channel is really cool and fun! Thanks guys, for such great reading and viewing pleasures, nerdom and education! -
@Beritar You beat me to it. You rascal.:) But not on the write up. Here is mine from my post in the A7siii thread two minutes ago. S5 is an image quality monster. The godzilla camera for your pocket: Lumix S5 is a real winner. When I tested the 8bit codecs of the S1, there was no mushyness whatsoever at high isos in extreme low (no) light situations. a few tiny Artefacts became visible in the shadows at no light. Interesting enough the super slim 75mbit h265 codec had grain in these situations, on the contrary it breaks apart on evenly and well lit plain surfaces. So I have been super impressed. Still don´t have the Vlog update, because I dont know if Panasonic will give it to us for free very soon. Would be a bit of wasted 200 USD then. S1, no mushyness in the shadows in no light situations, but grain. "No light" what a term for photography.:) S5 with Vlog has now been tested and it is performing the best compared to R5,6, A7siii, the latter one the worst. S5 is an image quality monster. Hard to believe they did it. Cinema quality in a 150mbit codec. Panasonic needs to promote it better. They can ask me being an ambassador. Here I come @andy lee 🙂 Check out Andrews friends from slashcam de and put it through the translator or check out the image. Amazing that S5 bad sis of a cam! I either sell my S1 and get one or wait for Pana to shell out a free VLog update:) Now check this image out and be amazed. The is a sophisticated raw debayering process called amazed by the way. Anyway, here you go: https://www.slashcam.de/images/texte/1974-300Prozent_Auge-300Prozent_Auge.jpg

I think, GH5 is an amazing camera, especially for people who love to grade! I started to realize how awesome it was. The more, the better the stuff in front of it became, which I was filming. Arris gives us cows to grade but could gives us Joaquin Phoenix instead. 🙂 To me GH5 is like a filmcamera. Amazing image quality. Its HD is fantastic. If it had SDI I would call it a day. Without grading fun and enjoyment, it is just a video camera. Now, I better get myself to buy that freaggin VLog update for my S1. Better yet, if Panasonic shells it out for free, since we S1 owners are early adapters of their full frame line.

That´s exactely what I figured. Small recorder rigged beautifully the Ben Ericson way, giving hasslefree perfect 10bit HD up to 60p. 422 is still pretty great, even if YUV only. These smallrig parts have been getting pretty pricy. That swivel and tilt holder is a beauty though.

Panny is lucky that Sony didnt give this camera a good Inter codec with 10bit for 1080 up to 60p and 4k 24,25,30p. Gerald Undones outlook makes good sense. Miniaturization is an important step in technology as it has always been. A7c represents that, A7III tech with A7SIII autofocus in an A6000 body plus swivel screen! With codec options like the S5 and without overheating this would be a mega seller. Sony will consider that, I am sure. It´s the smallest LF 4K videocamera in the world that has IBIS and an EVF. Sigma FP becomes very appealing indeed now, being the smallest LF 4K camera with a great image.
