Is the EOS-M *THE* Digital Super-8 Camera?
PannySVHS replied to Matt James Smith ?'s topic in Cameras
That would be really something! One of my all time favorite threads since I´ve been posting and regularily reading here! Thanks guys and Alpicat, keep it going! Though the DVX super8 global shutter raw monster would have been really awesome. Would love a ccd raw camera in that formfactor and stabilized zoom lens! -
Is the EOS-M *THE* Digital Super-8 Camera?
PannySVHS replied to Matt James Smith ?'s topic in Cameras
@Alpicat, yeah, it was a hardware hack, making it possible to record to a computer, such as a mac mini. If one looks for DVX100 Andromeda, it tells the whole story about a few happy campers having purchased the enhancement and filming with a 720p+ resolution 3CCD raw camera with global shutter, massive color, nice resolution image, in the beloved form factor of the legendary DVX100! It would be the perfect Digital Bolex substitute. Love this thread! Super fun read, with beautiful footage! -

@Alpicat, three of them ccd sensors even, yeah! global shutter included! Unfortunately only a few enthusiasts on this forum are interested in my thread above , which I find astonishing. I love this eos m super 8 thread though! Still, a bit disappointed. Well, no biggie. cheers :) -
Is the EOS-M *THE* Digital Super-8 Camera?
PannySVHS replied to Matt James Smith ?'s topic in Cameras
Hey guys, another massive contender for THE digital super 8 camera would be... the Panasonic DVX100 Andromeda! 720p 444 10bit, 3 ccd magic! See this footage and info from this thread. Would love, if this could be revived: -
@TrueIndigo, how about reviving the DVX100 hack. I would support that with a donation! I want that camera! CCD magic, three times that magic, awesome form factor, 720p 4444, digi bolex super 8 version! Yes it does! Big time!!
-
Heck, you better hack or mod me that sucker:) Hell, that Andromeda DVX is really giving me a sleepless time. So you will turn our newly purchased DVX cameras into some cinema raw monster super8 cameras then? :)
-
Darn!:( :) Anyone on this forum ever filmed with a DVX Andromeda? I would find it very exiting, having a great form factor, CCDs, that nice 10x servo zoom plus, NDs, plus that awesome 720p raw! Looking at the footage, I am very impressed. Beautiful CCD image plus a nice camera. How wouldnt I like that! The Super8 Digital Bolex for sure!

This is awesome or was, since the company has been bought by assumingly Panasonic or Red. The Andromeda mod gave the DVX100 fantastic 10bit 720p in 444 color, making it a magic super 8 digital cinema camera with its beautiful three ccds, bypassing the nappy DV format and showing its true resolution in pixels and color. If digital bolex is the incarnation of its 16mm analogue ancestor, then the DVX is the kid of the super 8 bolex. https://vimeo.com/groups/andromeda @BTM_Pix, Hey, you have done such awesome stuff with software on the Pana GX camera and with your upcoming hardware controller. Would you be interested to revive this project? I would pay money for this to have this unique ccd cinema magic in my hands. Holy macaroni:

super 16 size sensor like in the lumix phone cm1, so it has been done before. that combined with with 1.8 lens, and here you go. the lx15, the one inch compact from pana, has a 1.4 to 2.8 lens and is pretty small, like the rx100 series too. so a super16 video smartphone might be possible, just like the cm1 has given us a first idea about.
-
Well shot, great mood of place and activity. Gimbal plus smartphone or m43 lumix. Looks good.

Wow, now my lens related parts of comment disappeared by commenting on something else. Guess, this is an edit now. So, again: @kidzrevil Awesome shots and magnificient colors. Really standing out. Makes me want to chase some natural light more! Findings about the Fujinon 12.5mm c-mount super16 lens. Awesome! No crop on GX85 in UHD mode plus electronic IBIS. Put focal length on the smallest number, think it was 6mm, to avoid wobbliing vignette. Great image, colors. Really usuable at F2. My new favorite lens on the GX85. I guess I will keep the GX. Perfect combo. Crop (compared to 135 photofilm) in 4K plus electronic IBIS should be around 2.4, making it an equivalent of 15mm on m43 full sensor.

Glenn, you sound like webrunner, already :) Heck, I might start to apply that kinda liguistics. Heck yeah, that would be a tons of fun. :) Form factor is such a weird thing. The body i prefer the most with a pancake is from the GF1. Somehow it feels so much cooler and fun in the hand than my GX85. Don´t know why. So, if they put out a smartphone in that formfactor, heck, that would be cool. Or wouldnt it.

Just a quick thank you for supporting EOSHD over the years

Great forum, great members, great originator Andrew Reid! Your forum got me started into the DSLR/M cams and cinematography with them. Your forums members kept me involved with a beautiful community. Made some great friends here! Love this place! cheers -
wow, thinking about these very few of the most recent remarks in this thread, i must say, I really would appreciate it, if they will be deleted, @Andrew Reid! These kind of attacks are not acceptable, in my opinion.
-
Hey Glenn, G7 even fits better. Just the buttons are worse regarding size and clicking. Colors are great to grade. And it works well at iso 1600 in lowlight, better than G6 at 800.
-
@GregormannschaftHey, if m43 coverage is good enough, you could get a b4 2/3 lens with internal doubler, powering the servozoom with an external battery. Jon, don´t react to negative pms or public messages. They are not worth to be read twice. Enjoy doing your work, just like we do watching it. Mark, I find your last remarks not inspiring nor supporting to do filmwork.

bmcc 2.5k mft mount version will fall even more once bmpcc2 is out. best starter cam for testing out blackmagic color science. put some vmount battery to it and some molltone for shading the monitor and you are set:) I imagine a bmccameras 2.5k with cage and ssd can be found on ebay soon for less than 500usd.
-
Indeed. I think it´s one of the best casual "girl walking but not talking but groovin on IBIS"- videos on youtube. I don´t see harsh light but intense and for real and dynamic, strong, natural light, which is speaking for this special achieved look. Maybe my monitor is much more forgiving than yours. One never knows.
-
I tried my G7 this weekend, which I bought a year ago and have never used ever since due to my purchase of the GX85 a few weeks later. Guess what, that form factor is hard to beat when it comes to DSLMs. Didnt miss the IBIS, as the G7 must have a much faster sensor readout than the older G6. I was able to do some steady walks with it. I think it is the prettiest of the Lumix cams, just the buttons are a step backwards from the G6. Color mojo after grading. Love it. My recommendation! Woulndt call it an old camera just yet though. Sensor and pipeline are pretty sweet.
-
@jonpais, I must say, I like the look. Great enviromental portrait photo style. Nice slide like colors, not best though with great mojo. Colors sing. Love the suburban setting and the framing and capturing of architecture, materials and texture. And love it how it is not hidden by shallow dof. In my opinion great footage. Lovely.

Awesome movie, I have not watched yet!:) Great camera work and choreography.

Hey, thank you. I read about cmount lenses being modified to mounts like Nikon F in a rather dedicated effort.:) Cmount wouldnt adapt well to EF, because of its much shorter flange distance, afaik. Hallo, is there one? Could you post a linke please? That would really be cool. I only found their native Fuji Xmount extenders for their Xpro and XT DSLM cameras. cheers Hey, I dont have a GH5, so no additional 1.4 crop possible with my cams, only 2.4 via Extele or 2x with Digizoom with my Lumix cams. Extension by factor 1.4 would be perfect giving me the desired S16 for my S16 lens. So search still going on.:) cheers
-
Hey guys, would want an 1.4 extender for mft to mft mount and then put a cmount adapter on top of it, giving me optically s16 image circle on mft sensor for cmount lenses. So far there are only olympus and panasonic producing extenders for only one or two of their lenses.
-
Or the other way around, killed their passion with their dayjob:)
-
I would like to find a nice doubler for cmount as well. Afai read, cmount doublers give bad results and might not even avoid vignetting. Is it true that the 1.4 and 2x extenders for mft or FT only work for one or two lenses? Would love a 1.4 extender for mft to mft and then put a cmount adapter on top of it. So, Matt, did you find a way to mount your 12.5 Fuji properly?
