@webrunner5, yeah, it has a really great feel to it. Gnarly, so? Look at the bricks in the background my friend. I would call that a true resolution feat! Remember, original footage would have the vertical height of a 2K scan, which it was digitized with. I really love that piece too, big time. Grapes of Wrath is a great description of the mood. Gonna watch it again now:) Good night

Why YouTuber Logan Paul can't put his camera down
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Bob ain´t sellin cars. And Lee Moses is a forgotten Soul genius or even more true: he´s hardly been recognized in his time. Youtube can be still a place to find gems like this. I always feel disgusted with the current youpoop startpage, so I have a link in my bookmarks with AF100 as a search term:) -
Hey cats! It´s been a maginificient bunch of years, maybe eight or so, of the wizardry of DSLR/M image crafters and creative cinematography as part of true and truthful arts, of what is accomplishable through an image rather than by putting and shoving and screaming and FXing and bloatingly slomoing into peoples faces. Good enough until the end of times and plenty to research for, to learn from and to build new filmic work upon. One of the search terms is.. GH2. That´s what the magic of the GH2 and a Canon 550D still is. Past of tech but nevertheless a basement for an aesthetic future. In spirit and magic GH5 has not become a successor of the GH2 yet. Eoshd search and Vimeo search are our friends. Research time, creation time! Thanks to the magic of the GH2 I throw some magical digitized S16 Kodak stock into the mix for viewing pleasure. Wish you all a beautiful Sunday evening!

GH2 ISO tests: Rethinking the ISO bug & ISO 320 cleaner than ISO 160?
PannySVHS replied to QuickHitRecord's topic in Cameras
Classic EOSHD forum stuff. Kids, get the EOSHD searchengine started! I highly recommend taking advantage of the EOSHD archive! -
you and Philip Bloom I would pick of the ones you suggested. Daniel Peters has moved on from great test footage to rather quick shots of some sorts. James Miller too focused on just LUTs. RedShark I do not know, Harv having a nice way of presenting but not the content I am looking for at the moment. Awesome kid on the block, one of the most talented and inspirational is DSLRguide. Entertaining and highly informative. Has been around for a while and still kicking it like Andrew.

We just have to refine our own search algorithms. Searching EOSHD provides tons of knowledge. Maybe refining EOSHDs search engine could open up a whole new EOSHD experience, such as not limiting search to the no of 5 in a row. That could be an interesting discussion and developement of an EOSHD archive. I think I´ll be off for a good EOSHD archive read now instead of watching a GH5 video all auto on utubs.

@Fritz Pierre , I think you have posted some of your work here with the G6 haven´t you. Graded G6 video is still some of my favorite out of the gx80, g6 and gh5 material that I have shot. Interesting though, the super high resolving HD mode of the GH5 in Natural profile has more aliasing than G6 with both sharpness at -5. GH1,2,3,4,5 all have a different look to them if shot at the same or equivalent profile and settings. All of them appealing in their own way. I would love to see a sample of your GH5 pieces if you are allowed to share with us.

@Neumann Films, some good old Kung Fu action will give you great pleasure:) Can´t wait and looking forward to seeing your vignettes and posts and vlogs in the future! Thanks for all the awesome stuff you´ve been doing already!

Rather nothing to laugh about though, but great post of the beautiful Corman documentary! Highly recommended! Thanks for posting!

Jon, my friend, I know you ain´t accusing me. So don´t worry. All great. Like I said in my original post and after, different kind of videoshooters using GH5 mainly, compared to GH2 users from back then. Besides,I have been praising the GH5, even for its 8bit 709 HD mode over and over again. I shot my shortfilm with the GH5 in 8bit HD last summer. Still, I find pure cinematic vignettes by searching for the older cams, showcases of great usuage of filmic grammar. I wanted to share that findings and also have a beautiful discussion going on. I think I achieved both goals well enough. By the way, the guess the camera game: It is a GH3. Jon was right. I assume, not many have watched it entirely. It has some awesome photographic quality to it, texture, composition, color palette and all. My favorite GH5 entry besides Luk Neumann awesome lauch film is this one. Fresh, kinetic/cinemato-graphic, pleasing and satisfying montage of things to come, no bloating placeholders but a finished little jewel of visual experience! Love it!

EVA1 is winner here with more modern codec, lowlight with much less chroma noise and artefacts, higher resolution, fatter additional 400mbps codec and Varicam color science. It´s a true indy cinema camera whereas FS7 is an ENG workhorse. The test above is not showing significant footage, it´s like the cat shooting game from the DSLR days, not revealing anything about the quality of the camera. It´s wordy but not showing its assumptions. FS5 codec is has been proved to be crappy a lot of times. FS7 240mbit codec is old and full of artefacts in lowlight. IT´s still the top choice for every day ENG work, because for that it offer great ergos, approaved broadcast quality and most of all workflow. For indy cinema EVA is an awesome choice for the reasons I gave above about cinematic image with Varicam colors and filmic noise structure and high resultion with superior codecs. The GH5 is such a hit, that zillions of beginners shooting with this powerhouse. It´s been so popular for every videoshooter, so many beginners shooting with it. Thatfore vimeo gives us dozens and zillions of beginner level footage. Believe me, GH5 in 8bit HD REC709 is already giving cinema experience quality color within three nodes of a quick grade. That´s why it´s a megaseller, because of it´s potential and technical prowess. Buyers just don´t know how to take advantage of it and shoot everyting in LOG without having an idea about the workflow. You guys know what I mean Footage please Why did you sell it?

After you, my friend!:) @Goose I second that!:)
-
Well, that one is the no.1 milestone right there, thank you for pointing out! The films title is Hard to be a God from 2013, not the rather conventional 1989 version. That film is a beast!
-
Your work shows some awesome spirit and super fine skill. I was just hoping for some manpower to carry the lights for you and to cater the actors, that´s all Bill n Ted in BW, no, that one deserves to be in color:) No, it´s this monster of a BW masterpiece and milestone of achievement. See the dvdbaver screenshot:
-
Oh, Glenn, unless you already know this film, I got a monster of a BW film for you to check out. It´s a true beast of cinematic art, a BW monster. Let´s start this as a guess what thing. HInt: futuristic middle ages, overlong, a helluva ride. One thing important as well: I think you are the perfect indie and maybe more cinematographer. You should find a director and writer with appreciation for Arri Like Canon RAW and the master of its art and color- Original CanonRAW Gee Mercer!:)
-
That would be pretty massive, wouldn´t it:) Keep on goin, kids. I think you´re all a bit out of shape and lacking the fire when it comes a good old fasioned guessing the camera game.

Why YouTuber Logan Paul can't put his camera down
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That´s, because people differ in their opinions about this youtuber and this kind of clickbait entrepreneurs. Casey Neistat on the other hand is a great example of how one can be successful without bein a corpse exploiter or a pewduhbuhpoo guy. Casey is a Vlogger, the modern times video author, these other people are just exploiters and screaming car sellers and junk distributors an time thiefs. -
Thank you! Can´t wait to see what @deezid and @jonpais gonna do with it.

Well, that GH5 is an expensive camera but used by a lot of users on vimeo despite its higher price. It´s got the most uploaded content these days on there. Still rarely anything impressive or beautiful in any of the departments of cinematography, may that be color, framing, movement, subject choice. That is the simple thing the GH5 does not seem to be able to do, as I stated as a catch phrase in order to spark a conversation and an inspiration to revisit shooting style and results and especially videomakers from the earlier GH1 to GH3 times. Also the GH4 is a beast, that in my opinion has only been really used to its potential by very few users, some on this forum fortunately. By the way, anyone also waiting to see that G7 feature from Andy Lee? Hallo @andy lee

Why YouTuber Logan Paul can't put his camera down

Or cool 80ies movies! I agree on that part with you. But they were different than those youtubers. They were not posting unpleasant advertisment and self satisfactory lamentos and were not screaming around without music, nor on a daily basis. Selling cars has never sounded and looked that unpleasant, selling cars in figurative speech. @eleison They don´t turn it off, because they got baited into it and tuned to it. A lot of people are addicted. It´s hysteria. -
Never stated about it being superiour. You are to busy shooting in order to read long posts it seems these days:) Your image looks very nice if opened to full dimensions but looks off colorwise in the thumbnail. One thing, I would like to see some skintones without makeup on your great model.
-
Are you sure, Jon? I don´t think, many will agree on that.

Hey guys, great posts in this thread. One thing, I actually DID put the shooter in the center of my piece, just in an overly calm way of wording. My own words from my original post: "With the GH5 a whole new crowd of videofans are doing their short seqences of slowmotion and IBIS demonstration..." Oh, how I love to cite myself:) @Sage nice lensing and framing and great color out of your GH2. I like your emotion 2 montage, links into some great GH5 color moments here, awesome montage as well. I do think that too, that GH2 with the right lens choices and profile and WB has really nice color. One thing, GH2 shooters always lead me to the most interesting material of pure camerawork: framing, lensing, color contrast- palette- and composition, composition of objects, subject/object choice, camera movement and speed and point of view and distance, lighting. That is so to say what the GH5 lacks the most, this kind of library. By the way, maybe a bit unexpected, a guess the camera game. I suggest without browsing his materail for an easy solution. I expect @mercer to fall for some temptation of purchase again:)

Why YouTuber Logan Paul can't put his camera down

Didnt know it was that bad with youtubers. piedeewee, this logan guy. good thing i don´t have to watch their stuff. bad thing, i might have to deal with people who do. piedee has a pushing way to make his point like Tv commentators on roids. That reckless TV people trend started in the 80ies and it has not stopped since then but instead has been perfectionized. The same will go for the web.
