That has hardly been done on the net so far. Only by a very few people, putting it into beast mode for cinema production, what it´s been made for. Great point! Such a fantastic camera the GH5!

My friend, trust Zak and me on the VLOG vs VLOG-L figure. 12stop and great color is nice. An awesome 12stop image is still better than a shitty 14stop one. Ever shot internal 8bit SLOG2 on a FS700, lol? Ever shot a 11 stop image with the Digital Bolex? Now the latter one is an image I would love to see in any of the new cameras!
-
You are hyped about something, I see. I would call that exitement.:) Easy task, no need for a speedbooster here.
-
f8 plus 25k for a7s would be the same as f4 plus 6400 for gh5s regarding light gathering and dof, putting the GH5s into an advantage for a CINEMATIC image, A7s showing nasty artefacts, GH5s absent of any of these nasties and with much more vivid color. Additionally I would put my speedbooster on it and put "my":) GH5s on F5.6, equalling the DOF of f11 on the A7s.

It´s the best ISO 3200/6400 image, if you are after a cinematic image, not last resort kind of images seeing into the nolight areas. At lower ISOs it´s up there with the big boys, which the Sony is very far from being so. At lower ISOs the Sony has an image I can can reproduce and better easily with a 350 dollar Lumix G7.

I hope you don´t want me to copy and paste my text after your reply:) VLOGL "only" holds 12stops. It does so still with even better color fidelity than the awesome GH5. It is a nice 12stop image with beautiful cinematic color. If they allow us to turn sharpness off completely we have the first OFFICIAL Lumix cinema camera rivaling the image of cameras with higher dynamic range. Compare the BMCC 4K with its 12 stop dynamic range to the 14 stops of the FS7- the BlackMagic 4K screams cinema, the FS7 screams FS7:) That´s a great thing. First test chart on slashcam shows almost abscence of sharpness nasties.

some of you are confusing me. We now have a 400mbps 10bit VLogL camera that shoots ISO 6400 in lowlight or even 12800 with the same quality regarding noise as the undisputed 4K low light champ A7Sii for a 2500 launch price. At 6400 ISO in lowlight it has better and richer color than the A7S, overall the better lowlight image for CINEMA purposes. You can use all your m43 lenses with it like you have been before. Or aren´t you even a m43 shooter but still argueing? Of course it is worse from 20000 on and much worse from 25600 and even much more so from 51200 on for NIGHTWATCH NO LIGHT purposes. It has better lowlight than a a6500, so you guys come up with a A7sii. It beats it at 6400iso for Cinema purposes! Stop complaining, please. @webrunner5 EVA1 has Varicam look due to full VLOG curve holding 14 stops and zero sharpening and noise reduction. GH5s has VLOG-L curve with 12 stops and sharpening going on. One is a 100% Amira, Varicam, Arri quality cinema image, the other is a nice indie cinema image in its own right plus awesome lowlight image and color. I´d say the price is exactely right for both. @ryne275 hihi, Casey is kewl and using a camera with great autofocus but an image that is technically the same as of 2010. EDIT: A7Sii is applying a lot of noise reduction and giving us artefacts from 12800 upwards in low light. GH5s gives a better lowlight image at ISO 6400, same at 12800, slightly less at 20000, 2 stops less at 102400. There is an obvious nonlinearity in the numbers. Both images from 16000ISO on would rather not be used for cinema projection. GH5s beat it at 6400. At lower ISO it´s even so much better than A7s, it´s not funny any more.

Mercer the living IBIS:) Sad, that my favorite thread seems no more active due to the GH5s, which makes using lenses obsolete:)
-
GX85 plus the 20mm is a pretty combo:) That lens with manual mechanical focus and mainting its pancake form factor would be so awesome. Awesome lens. Exellent TStop as well. I am starting to lust that old schoold 25mm 1.4 PanaLeica and the 15mm 1.7. Though still fly by wire GH5s, give it zero sharpening setting and full VLOG curve and I will preorder. As crazy as it would be for me to buy a camera of that price, even though it would be the best camera deal of the last decades. Wowsers, I think both look great. One thing is very obvious, launch videos are better than they were for the GH5.

Obviously it is massively worse than the GH5s codec. A7s giving us worse performance at the setting with 12800ISO, of which I gave an example above. Half of the persons pants are one complete dark area on the Sony camera! The other shot with the two Lumix cams has a spinning wheel at the right, so it has a moving object in there. Inazuma, on a screen bigger than 19inches blocking of the Sony camera is massively obvious. You can call it a draw between the two cams, which is an awesome performance for both of the cameras. These blocks on the A7s are like 8bit NES, whereas Panasonic blotches are still video. It would be considered better performance on a big screen for the GH5s. At ultra ultra lowlight of course, it is not performing to the same sensitivity as the A7s cameras.
-
Luke, your film is boss. So was YOUR grading in the previews:) Here is your awesome video on lighting. Thank you very much for this!
-
Muaha, lol. That compression blocking is massive, it´s like old 256 VGA color mode from 1998, muaha! Some tint easily corrected with a color wheel in the software of your choice. No cure for the A7s image on this 12800ISO sample. So up to 12800iso, comparable performance, even much better on the gh5s in this scene. But let´s read what master Ebrahim has to say about this, giving his supreme analysis on the dp forum very soon!
-
I note better performance of GH5s at f5.6, 12800iso, rec709. Look at the massive artefacts, blocking on the A7s. Gruesome. So in some lowlight scenarios, one will fare better with the GH5s. Open in new tab for enlargement.
-
There are some lowlight scenarios where the A7s codec will show nasty artefacts, where the GH5s, even the GH5 will not. But interested in any findings about ISO 6400 footage. By the way, Kai is lacking a bit in competence regarding video compared to experts such as Luke Neumann or Jordan from TCS. I think evaluation of advantages does barely come across in his video. Here is a screeshot comparing GH5s to the original GH5, 6400 ISO, 12lux!, f2.8, shutter 25th second, massive improvement, shooting at 6400ISO will be not a problem with this camera. Just click on preview below:

Depending on sensor tech, lol! At same exposure levels and in lowlight situation GH5S video shows same noise performance as A7SII at ISO 6400. Above 12800 ISO A7S is better, at 51200 it´s eating it for breakfast of course. But ISO6400 quality like an A7s, thats awesome lowlight performance! You can watch the video on youtube, which is comparing the GH5s with the sony, the EVA1 and with the original GH5.

That is great to know! Thanks for sharing info.

What´s up with Matt Frazier? I loved that guy.
-
I figured you would already be convinced.:) As if I was comparing "Gone with the wind" and "Avatar" regarding their boxoffice success, I was assuming that I have included that kind of "inflation factor" in my observation and judgement. Comparing GH5s to GH5 then, if picture quality is up to EVA standards and lowlight up to C300II standards then this camera has more going for it than I was assuming just one hour ago, to say the least. It would be a cinema camera with image quality just like a c300ii or a varicam lt with a price being very laughable by comparison. Rolling shutter would be interesting to know, as well if it has a setting for zero sharpening.
-
Luke, people are out of likes for today. They have been throwing around with it today because of the GH5Ss´ launch day today! So maybe come back a bit later Awesome footage despite not being graded by you. Congratulations!
-
Compared to a LS300 it´s pretty swell as a launch price. GH5s with better image, much better grading potential, 10bit vs 8bit, nice EVF and LCD, much better lowlight, no internal NDs of course. It is an interesting deal just like LS300 was and still is.
-
That´s why you would love full curve for that varicam look which is in the same league as arri.
-
@Andrew Reid, I knew it, you were up to something being so surprisingly quiet about rumors, you sneaky cool cat. We love you, Andrew!
-
Yeah full VLOG is for EVA1 and Varicam cameras, providing 14stops rather than 12 stops of dynamic range. With full VLOG curve they would have given us the same image as Varicam 35 and LT. Woundn´t that have been crazy and amazing! It would also have provided us with the possibility to turn sharpness completely off.
-
no full VLOG curve:( Hopefully sharpness can be completely turned off.
-
Panasonic would also have to rearrange or even put a completely different IBIS in the camera due to new sensor layout and its slight oversize due to multi aspectratios
