shoot, out of likes for today

@mercer exactly, profound analysis. It took cinegain digging into 6months old vimeo posts to find a decent GH5 video. I found the cinematographer with the GH2 on the first page with vimeosearch by date, just searching for GH2. @Cinegain, first example is long, and seemingley milking the concept without offering much visual interest in doing so, 2min seems bloated to me. Tonal gradation more nuanced in the hightlights than what typical GH2 videos show. It is not offering cinematography but photography rather so, with all that slow and unspecific movement. Second video looks colorwise like osiris lut has been used. I have seen only super few GH5 videos that have wowed me due to the generic approach in all departments of cinematography, lack coming from users side. Here is another nice one from the same cinematographer. 36 seconds of well chosen angles, framing, subject distance, distinct choice and parts of movements. Even in slomo:) Also Shows great understanding of the basic graphic principles and works them to the best effect.

Please take my headline with a blinking eye:) With the GH5 a whole new crowd of videofans are doing their short seqences of slowmotion and IBIS demonstration. But indeed most of these pieces in my opinion don´t show subjects of visual interest but random results of moving hair and moving girls heads and lips and eyes from all so common angles with nothing in the frame but the slomo victim, may it be human, flower or the elements of nature. Any of these shots taken as a still put on a wall would make a mediocore choice. Here is a video showing what the GH5 does not seem to enable shooters of the vimeo universe to achieve: simple choice of subject, disciplined lens and framing choice, intriguing but simple editing. Here it goes, the magic of GH2 makes it possible: staying true to the form, perfection in length!! , framing, subject and rhythm, composition in color and geometry. With the most common choice of subject, the human gestalt and the very common context of fashion.

With full VLOG curve and option for turning off sharpness this already would make it an exellent buy for 2500 USD. Additional 10bit in 4K 60p and 10bit HD from 72p upwards to 120p would be exellent and should be possible assets for marketing such an additional choice of GH5s camera.

Hey Thomas, Seb is the master of vignettes. He makes every camera shine. Thanks for showing this piece. I would suggest to shoot in Natural -5 contrast and noise, -2 saturation and 0 or -2 for contrast. GH2 has some mojo for sure! I have a G6,G7 and GX85 but thinking about a GH2:) G6 is somewhat a GH2 with a better codec and it´s a great camera if you put some contrast and color curves on the material in the grading:) @kidzrevil, 12mm, great how you put that lens into use. Do you think the lens does some electronic mambo jambo to the material? Your vintage lensing still provides the best colors on the G85 in the vimeo universe in my eyes.

Why YouTuber Logan Paul can't put his camera down
PannySVHS replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It aint blurry at all to most people. They just don´t have much decision and other powers, because they have to work hard all day long and then get baited into dubious content. The whole current economy lives on the concept of baiting into its trickery. Jonesy, standards have been formed over and over again. There is an abundance of standards people can go by without causing horrendeous pain for others. But every generation has to learn and be taught all over again. That youtube kid just does not seem to care, just like many others, because easy money is to be earned. Temptation is high. And now off to my favorite thread. What could that be, oh Andy Lee?:) -

Based on moral standard xhoeh1-e, maybe I am wrong and it was moral code 0000011114098. Clicks are wrong, if something else stands in opposition to it and excludes it by its superiour importance. Just imagine a scenario, where that could be thinkable. I am living on the wrong side of history, I am a 100 years old cookie monster. What you call new morality is not new but well established since existence of human nature, click is just a new technological facette of it. -

Edit: Now I got it:) Well, seems like you are not considered to be part of his audience, since you care that much about photography, beautiful lenses and cameras and always awesome five reasons to reconsider some classy older technology. That guy is not vlogging with an X100T after all.:) -

@Jonesy Jones, i suggest, wrong. The 20th ce didnt do nothing. A lot of people of the 20th ce gave their lives for the well being of otheres, millions of them. It´s the fire and money power of doers doing things on expense of others and on expense of others lives, which is twisting moral and neglecting objective moral standards but twisting them to their benefit. I´ve always been hesitating on insulting people on this forum and I will stand by that least common moral value we can share when being on this forum. So there are morals. The youtube kid just didnt care for them, because clicks have been too tempting to him. -
Hey Glenn, will give my G6 a BW run in January! It´s a shame the HD from the GX85 seems so underwhelming to me. Dpreview chart shows it would be rather soft without aliasing but from my findings it has distracting aliasing and just weird looking characteristics to it. My G7 still not put through the paces:) GH5 HD is super highly resolving but showing more aliasing than G6 with sharpness at -5! The video above just has an astonishing look to it. G7, G85 and GX85 footage on vimeo looks mostly underwhelming to me, especially when shot with electronically connected native lenses. I posted a thread a few weeks ago, asking to post legit shortfilms from the newer bunch of Lumix cameras, with hardly any success.

Hey Oliver, color and lighting ist top quality. Video looks great. Music is a matter of taste though, your work isn´t, it´s exellent. I must confess, I would´nt be able to tell the cameras apart. Impressive!

I would buy good quality movies in great quality. There are some awesome Blurays out there. Ever watched the HD release of the Red Shoes for some Technicolor glory or some of the awesome classics? They do 4K scans nowadays but deliver in HD on Bluray. I think it would be worth it to buy great quality HD content rather than waiting for its 4K counterparts.
-
Well, and if it has full V Log curve. That way it would be a mini eva. And here I am again in this thread. Thank you Oliver! @Oliver Daniel, any musicvid you shot with the gh5 in the tradition of your super cool gh3 stuff? That would be something to come back to this thread for. Or a new Neumann shortfilm production.

@mercer, now this one looks massive. I had audio turned off and was uberly impressed and exited about the image and its gestalt. Then I turned audio on and was still exited about the image itself, just not about the audio, so I turned it off again:) But there is an awesome photographic quality to these images. Though I am usually not falling for the shallow dof. But this one would make me want to buy a GH1, it´s in 720p mode too and looking better than most stuff I´ve seen from other shooter/camera combos. This video would even make put it on my channel as my own. Theft as a sign of appreciation should be all right, wouldn´t it?

Glenn, awesome post. Love your RX10 BW shots! You make every camera shine with your choice of framing. Michael Mills has some nice 8bit BW stuff on his vimeo channel. I think, when he used some sort of diffusion like Black Mist, it looked the best. Also the ones shot with the GH2 show more mojo than his GX85 videos This one has an additional Red filter on top, really beautiful video:

Nooooooo, you guys are all totally nuts! This thread has become pretty silly by now, just like me.

Panasonic didnt announce anything. Please close thread!

@deezid didn´t watch the whole thing yet. but at 5.45 min is my favorite part "that supernatural favour" What´s P4P? Edit: watched almost to the end. Very nice to watch apart from the professional camera work it has a nice structure to it to center everyting around the ceremony rahter than having the usual kindo of wedding collage. I would have liked to see it start earlier with the foley real time sound, f.i. the violine player and the choir. Anyhow, great video.

Lookin good. Proves another time that GH5 can be combined with an Alexa:) Lighting and blocking is really cool. Just the two lads are not quiet as cool as the Rolling Stones or White Stripes or Danko Jones or Lemmy of course Sorry, had to put this up as juxtaposition, Hallo @maxotics Anyhow, impressive what you achieved in such a small time frame. The result is stellar looking.
-
better at what? ultra low light, well that is nothing Godfather or other Bmovies were shot at. Not even the King of Darkness, Gordon Willis shot at ultra low light. Panasonic is not late at all. All their video orientated DSLMs have been top notch. GH5 will show less artefacts in low light but more noise. Which of the two looks more "filmic"? I say, noise over artefacts any time.
-
@maxotics, Hey, awesome post! External recorder will help, as that XAVC is highly compressed. It´s not the 8bit part but the compression showing banding.

@webrunner5, Great writeup. An awesome read. I remember, when SVHS C was an entry into making cinema like interlaced images possible for nonprofessionals. Well, what we thought would be cinema like:) It´s a shame that a restarted into video with digital only two years ago. All this fun with fascinating tech I´ve been missing out on all those years. Do you remember the videotoaster from Newtech? I cam around one years ago in a TV station, built around an Amiga 4000. Kinda sad to see a fxxin ifon having zillion times more performance power than the hottest gfx computer money could back then buy. But so must have felt a lot of people when an electronic pocket calculator from the 80ies had more calculating power than computers from the early days, which were built with tubes and as large as a shopping mall:)

Now the 200mpbs Intra for HD would be very worthwhile!:)
