Yeah, but you shoot v-log right, probably to an external recorder? GH4 is a great camera for someone who knows how to use it. With my experience with both GH4/GH5 and GX85 I would recommend the G85 to a beginner, but GH4 is also a good choice. A lot's of people overdo the IBIS thing, but if you use it like @jonpais it's a very useful tool. And I bet you haven't used the any of the new Panasonic cameras, am I right? Yes, it is about easy. People shoot with expensive cameras because it's the easiest way to get the best image they can. I also shoot full manual btw.

Have you used the new Panasonic cameras, GX85, G85, GH5? I agree with @jase and @jonpais that the G85 is the best budget camera out there for beginners. The GH4 has a lot of great features but I think it's easier to get good results with the newer models. It's not just about IBIS.

I agree. It's chrome that destroys the color though. Do you calibrate your screens? If not, what profile do you use? I know calibration is the best way to go, but I was wondering what profiles people who don't calibrate use. According to iMore.com the LG is supposed to come calibrated from factory to match other Macs, so I don't think it's a must for hobbyists like me. I think you're right about the Adobe RBG profile and after testing a few profiles I will use the LG Ultrafine profile which also is called Display P3. Thanks!

The laptop was not exactly optimal, but since I transcode and use proxies the speed is good enough, and I didn't want to spend until I had to. I probably would have bought a new iMac if it was released in March though, but hopefully I'll be happy with this setup for a while. The main reason I wanted a bigger screen is when I looked at my friends iMac and saw the coloring mistakes I made due to the small screen. Lately I've also felt tight in my neck so I decided to splash the cash on the LG. Do you edit mainly on the iMac or MBP or both? They're pretty different color wise I would assume.

I bought the new LG 5K display to use with my Macbook Pro mid 2014 and was wondering which profile you guys use for external monitors? As I understand the Adobe RGB 1998 is the norm, but there is also the new Display P3 profile which looks very similar but a little bit more contrasty. Why I bough it: I'm fully aware that I will only get 4K and not take full advantage of the new P3 profile since I'm using an "old" Macbook. I'm not sure I want a new MBP or a new iMac when it's released so I will use this monitor for now and decide when the new iMac is released. Since this monitor is 25% through March I figured the loss will be smaller if I decide to sell after a while and if I choose to get a new MBP I already have a great monitor, which is long overdue. It's works to edit on a laptop, but it's a not very ergonomical. The monitor looks great btw and the image is very nice Thanks!

Sure, I was actually considering asking you the same thing, but then mine suddenly arrived So you have the lens but no m43 camera at the moment? I will be comparing it to my 12-35mm and other Pana Leica primes, 12mm, 15mm, 25 and 42,5mm and see if I can put something together. I leave for work on Monday and will be away for two and half weeks, but I will try to find time to do some light testing in the weekend. Is there anything special you had in mind? Keep in mind though, you're a Varicam user, I'm just an enthusiast I can post in this thread and tag you?

The same day they opened for pre-orders. I was first in line for this kit and they only got one for the first shipment. Next would be mid April, maybe...

I was told last week that mine would arrive mid April, maybe.. So this was a nice surprise! The zoom has very nice build, a little longer but pretty similar to the 12mm in size with nice focus and zoom rings. Maybe not a replacement for high-end primes, but it seems solid. With the 40% off kit price it was a no-brainer really. Excited to see how the colors compare to the other Leica lenses, and obviously how it performs in general. hehe

I decide it's a keeper too!! Christmas came early in Norway for once and I got my camera yesterday. Gonna play with it today and do some light testing. The screen and viewfinder is very nice! And look at that Leica lens @jonpais

Your videos look good to me. I don't think you need to worry to much, but I think you should give the marsmallow look a try! Maybe you will like it? It looks better on Chrome A little more contrasty. Maybe that's the trick, go for the pale look and let Chrome take of the rest. The most ridiculous part is that both Chrome and Youtube are Google companies. If anything they should be able to make it look better than Safari, not worse!

Ahh, ok. I used Chrome for a while, but I don't use it for youtube anymore as they fuck up the color (see the images on page 1). What's shit about this is when you're trying to make the image look as good as you can and then other people watches it on Chrome and it looks a lot worse than it should.

Can you check on Chrome? Did you see the oversaturated reds in Safari before? Just curios as I never had that problem in Safari.

@jonpais the problem has reappeared unfortunately. I tried uploading a master myself instead of choosing export directly from FCPX. At first it looks like it should, but after a while Chrome ads it's magic to the image. I checked your latest video in both Safari and Chrome and it's the same as before. As for quality I didn't notice any difference between master and direct from FCPX which I usually use.

And the G85 came out almost 3 years after the GH4 which is what I'm saying. That's a little too long to wait for me. Don't know if that's for me but, I don't disagree that the G85 has better color and more accurate WB. I posted that many months ago as the main reason to why I sold my GH4.

I highly doubt it. I think they're going to be releasing an update to the GX8, but there is no guarantee it will even have a headphone jack. I'm guessing it will be aimed towards photographers. Please correct me if I'm wrong but no other Panasonic camera except the GH-line has ever had as high frame rates, bigger batteries, headphone jack, v-log L etc. Ergonomics is subjective, but I prefer the GH-line and GX8 over the smaller G85 and GX85. The GH5 is meant to last for 3 years, why would they release a cheaper similar camera to compete with it? Maybe in a year or two we will see 4K 60p in a cheaper Panasonic camera.

Well, that's good news, sort of... It's looks a lot better on Safari than Chrome btw. I'm seeing lots, and have been since I got my GX85 in June. The GH5 is actually a little overkill for me. Something between the G85 and GH5 would have been sufficient, but that's not going to happen. The way I see it is that I'm paying 500 $ more and getting a camera that I will have for years, until the next GH is out. Seriously, what's not to like? Color, RS, noise performance, crop, stabilization is much improved over the GH4. DR could always be better but apart from that it check's basically every mark off the list. I'm know there's other great cameras in that price range, but the GH5 is by far the best production tool in my opinion.

That's different lenses on each shot btw. The red patchiness is there on both shots, but the Leica is a little darker/contrasty so that might have something to do with it. It's there on @jonpais other video with the 12mm too. Could it be that -2 contrast setting?

Yeah, but what about the colors? Have you notice how yellow the 12-35mm is and how accurate and crisp the 12mm colors is? Have you tried matching them, it's not as easy as one might think. Great lens, I agree
