Thanks, Yeah i hear ya. Its just i got access to both camera's with zeiss compact primes. So it is not a cost thing. Strange that I hear the 5d is better at grading, I should test that as grading will be a important factor. The only thing that scares me is the highlight rolloff of the c100. The highlights are quite hard edged in comparison with the 5d. About exposing the c100 and the 5d. I should not worry about overexposing 2 stops like the a7s or underexposing a stop on the gh4 for getting the best image am i?

Hey, I am about to shoot a project(short film), but I am still wondering what camera to use. I will need to do a side by side to make my mind up. So I am looking for the camera that has the most cinematic look out of the box. (I will have access to kino flo's, Arri 1000W and a HMI for lighting, as I know the most important will be the lighting, lenses will be a zeiss kit). I know the 5D III RAW beats all options, but because there is fast deadline coming up + there will quite some footage shot which requres a lot of diskspace. So the 5D III ML RAW is not an option. So any experiences with them both, and what will you recommend for the most cinematic feel about em. Thanks!

Yeah each camera has it strong and weakpoints. For quick shots like on a vacation I would choose the A7S ii as well, or even for a client where the image is not really that important, but whenever on a short film where I have the time to set up my shots, I would choose the 5D iii ML RAW. Especially when shooting anamorphic. I now just purchased a canon c100 aswell. And that camera seems to be in the middle of the A7S and 5DIII RAW. File sizes are good, the image is not full frame but it looks great. If not for the anamorphic mode on the 5D III RAW, I would probably sell my 5D III and just use the C100.

Hey, I am shooting 5D III ML Raw video and I have a kowa 2X bell and howell with the slr magic diopter kit. And for the moment only a 1000x komputerbay CF card. But I have some questions regarding shooting with this kit. 1: When focussing the anamorphic with and without diopters, do you use some kind of measuring tool(like a rolmeter)? 3, 10, 20 Feet as marked on the anamorphic? I find focusing very difficult especially when using the diopters. (and not sure what lens I need to focus first). 2: For the moment i use a canon 100mm f2.0 taking lens. But I see a lot of people using the helios 58mm 44. Can I use this lens in full frame with 5D III ML RAW 2X? Or only when zoomed in using the magnifier tool(Do I loose sharpness/detail/quality this way)? 3: I can not seem to be able to select the 4:3 aspect ratio with 1920/1080 resolution, do I need a faster card(if so which do you recommend)? 4: I like the helios 58mm 44 swirly bokeh, but how is the overal lens sharpness compared to the canon 100mm f2.0? Is there a rule to measure what diopter to use on certain distances? For example a 100mm taking lens on a FF. with a 2X anamorphic lens with a diopter of +1= focus is everything in 1 meter +2 everything between 1 and 2 meters? Or something like that? As I would like to know what diopters are good to have in my bag. Thanks!

Well the FS7 is a good camera, but I am not sure the FS7 beats the C300 on a cinematic image level though. The sony camera's are usually spechorses, not workhorses(not really in need for slowmo). Besides the used price is more then double, so it is out of my reach anyway.

Nah Dont think so, havent seen anything good on the C100 so far. Looks more like a documentary camera to me.

C300 MkI, yes not the biggest renting fan over here. As I rent a alexa mini for a week, its the same money as buying a used c300. But I get your point.

Hey, I have a 5D III with ml installed on it. So the RAW image looks awesome but the workflow is a bit of a stinker. If i upgrade to the canon C300, i will have the same DR and even better highlight roll off as the 5D right and a easyer workflow. Or would you not suggest to upgrade to the C300 I? Also I do like anamorhpic and the 5D iii ML has some cool anamorphic goodies. The aim is for cinematic shortfilms and hopefully one day a feature. Thanks!

Wow that price is ridicilous. I dont see a market for it. Too pricey for purchasing, and if you are gonna rent, why not rent some cookes or hawks..

Thanks, is the +3 not a bit excessive? as the tokina 72mm is only +0.4? How well would this match up with a 2X anamorphot(kowa bell howell + taking lens canon 100mm f2.0)?

True the option of 4K is great, sure 6K could come in handy for certain work. But I would like a boost in film IQ, more like the Varicam. More DR, better highlight rolloff, less noise, better codec(prores,h265, raw). If 6K and 4k 60fps are the only selling points over the GH4. I will not be buying one, then I even choose the A7S ii over it. Why would you wait till photokina for such specs.

Hello, How do you guys lock down your lenses at a fixed focuspoint? As a lot of time, you change focus accidently and you have to align again. Do you use tape so it does not change, or are there any other things I could use? Thanks

It depends for what you are using it for. If you want to use it for cinematic short films, then hell yes. For company video's, Interviews and even travel video's I would use the A7S ii.

Bigger sensor size is good and all. But I would like more DR, better highlight roll off, less noise and improved color science even if only at 1080p in a better codec.

Hey, I just installed the 5D iii ML hack but I can only choose up to 1920*1080p resolution, no bigger resolution. I am using a computerbay 1000x card, and read this should be sufficient. However if i change aspect ratio I can choose other resolutions. What is the best combo for regular video and what is the best resolution for anamorphic shooting (4:3)? As I thought you could shoot up to 2.5k video. Thanks!
