  1. it really does huh ? yes, exactly. basically, im trying to get creative for how i can do this without leaving the mountain i live on or the vicinity. if im going to LA to film it then i have a million options, but itd be WAAYYY easier to film it near where i live, so any kind of out of the box thinking that comes up im interested in too i already have some cast and audio/visual ppl to work with here, so thats a good start~! edit: whoa wth why is that underlined and blue
  2. I want a set like this, but i cant quite afford it yet ? unlike this vertical structure however, my set does not need to be high, it needs to be wide im just doing, more or less, one horizontally panning shot of a guy talking and walking, while stuff happens in the background – extras move around, etc. i want the feeling of dark, and plenty of water so it feels and looks wet, and a location where, within my frame, it looks like it could be underground i would rlly appreciate any thoughts... the right google search is on the tip of my tongue... like, i dont know anything about reality: isnt there a place in every city that does, uhm, something with water, that looks vaguely like the video above? like i searched 'sewer plant' and this isnt what i had in mind. ..i dont want it to seem toxic ? and, like i said, i want underground, but in theory i could shoot in a spot like the above at night with practicals and no one would know the difference. it just looks like... sewage, whereas i want water finally, the ubiquitous trope of sewer "tunnels" is useless for this: no tunnels. i need a bigger type of set for the actors to move around in... any thoughts guize??????????
  3. so it seems like people know the show Empire in the US, but not elsewhere... makes sense~! just for the record, if i ever make one million dollars in a year, working on a famous show in hollywood, i will absolutely be thrilled and declare Mission Accomplished™
  4. wow...... uhhhhmm this camera is really something. it does all KINDS of stuff ? im gonna look more into it. jvc was not on my radar, but i think this thing is pretty dope. any camera that can produce the color red (*cough*) is ok in my book~! it also seems to resolve a whopping amount of detail in a fairly pleasing way @BTM_Pix thank you for the headlines, i read thru them, got to the end, and had this odd feeling... then i started again at the top - Super 35 sensor - MTF mount ...what tha heck??! ? thankfully that video explained a bit, but im not sure i get how it all works.... pretty amazing tho~! i guess i just thought the m43 lenses wouldnt cover that sensor but... i guess they do? or close to it in some cases, and then you can use that digital crop feature? is that kinda right?
  5. nice work, @Alt Shoo~! video looks good, not familiar with the camera tho... would you mind underscoring a few of its finer points, why you use it, etc...? im super ignorant about options in cameras with that form factor!
  6. names like CNN? ? his story sounded RIDICULOUS to everyone, and the msm went with it because they *wanted* it to be true this appalling story thats the saddest part
  7. ohh, i get it, is that an option when you set up the poll? good idea, my bad! also, 17 million viewers is a ton these days so... a mil a year might be pretty reasonable https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/empire-breaking-barriers-overseas-viewers-792010 oh, and one more thing: turns out that the showrunner of Empire is Lee Daniels, director of one of the most appalling movies ever made, Precious
  8. THANK GOD for THAT yeah, its amazing. i think he was willing to potentially testify against two innocent guys too. he was gonna take this all the way to the bank hes obviously super delusional and all that, but the reason he got caught is that hes a terrible liar – the whole thing sounded like horseshit from the very beginning to everyone i know... but somehow not the mainstream media ? anyway, what if he WASNT a terrible liar... what if he was really smart? he couldve clean gotten away with this the part ~I~ cant believe the most is that he had a hollywood DREAM JOB making over a million dollars a year!!! people would literally kill for that job!! WHAT??!??? then again, with the help of the media he'll prolly turn the whole thing around in the future, somehow still be a victim, write a book, sell the movie rights, etc. its really getting cartoony out here folks! the point of my poll is that i cant believe an actor on a show that ive never heard of makes so much money, but obviously other ppl have heard of Empire, so i stand corrected ? edit: oh wow, it has 5-6 million viewers... thats a lot these days do you guys remember seinfeld? remember the big season finale? how many ppl do you think watched that show, that last episode? i looked it up recently and my head exploded

    Galaxy Fold

@BTM_Pix agree 1000% – i still dont like "apps" ? do you...? i think those are pretty close to being a reality... isnt this like, a clear precursor to our doom tho? im full of it anyway: id fall of that hoverboard and break my face

    Galaxy Fold

i agree @kye i was laughing at this part, lol emoji are you serious??? ive never thought of that, thats kind of.... ingenious ? i was thinking about this whole thing more, and the overall concept that a smart phone could be small and become big in different ways is pretty amazing. thats some back to the future shit too still tho... wheres my hoverboard? edit/update: this set looks amazing, what the heck is this guys, how did they do this?
  11. holy cow~! TWELVE STOPS??!! ? edit: omg is this real

  14. very cool, could one of you guys maybe post a screengrab of what youre referring to in the latter half of this thread? im not exactly sure how to visualize it~!
  15. dude!!! GREAT WORK, I LOVE ITTTT first of all, this is a really interesting piece, and it was easy to actually watch, because.... as a director youre a storyteller, and like telling any 8 min story, if ppl dont have faith in you as a narrator, things arent gonna work. on the other hand, when you establish competence immediately, and then offer a little twist to the audience, THEN you rlly have ppls attention going forward, u kno what i mean? so, in a world of boring ish thats ALL THE SAAAAME, this got my attention immediately~! lol i hear ya. only i call it an "art practice" same. im in a p good place now, but u dont even wanna kno abt the past same to be fair, i actually have a fantastic sense of humor when im in a good mood – i could write comedy. but its REALLY in stark contrast to my gloominess, or my tongue in cheek gloominess, as the case may be. point being, that confuses ppl, and you cant be dark and funny, gotta pick one. so... thats the silver lining ???? seriously man, great work, loved the short, its almost impossible to get someone to watch an 8 min short on youtube, let alone a b&w 3:4 silent film, but u did it. my first short is v similar in those ways. one more thing: DO ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT i saw a video one time where quentin (tarantino, not quentin hickenbottom) was relating a story about how he was talking to some rich woman at a fancy party, and he was between films, and he wasnt sure what to do next or if he wanted to do anything next at all, and he told this woman that, saying that it was like climbing "a whole new mountain every time", or something to that effect so if he, one of the most successful, acclaimed filmmakers of his generation feels that way, AFTER hes made world class hit films...?? i think its ok for you and me to be human too filmmaking is hard af. dont give up

    Bane voice

also: fun fact if you like this film. the original voice in the theatrical trailer was too hard to understand, and to my knowledge, they rerecorded it, see below... what do you think @IronFilm? fwiw thats what this guy says oh and one more thing: the accent is basically sean connery on bath salts
  17. the thing about adding raw, prores, etc, is that people dont have to use it it can just be another function in the menus that almost nobody uses, like the rest of the menu options

    Bane voice

@IronFilm ahh yes of course, thank you. i shouldve mentioned that he'll just be walking around on a set where everything is fairly controlled edit: im sorry, another thing (this has been taking shape over the last few days): the bane character is the only person talking, except for about three lines of dialogue from someone else which i could dub i want a fairly wide shot, so theres not a lot of room for a boom op to stand... i wasnt planning on using one, thats part of my scheme, to keep this as easy as possible. the shot is basically just bane character walking to the left, full body shot, as the camera pans with him and ppl move around in the background. this lasts about a minute. then someone comes in from offscreen, "invading" the shot, and hes immediately taken out by bane guy, and then the camera continues panning and the character returns to his monologue. at the end of his speech the camera dollys or zooms in to a CU as hes talking. thats it!
  19. @Snowbro that video is sicc. its insane that its from a freakin cell phone oh, soon~! Canon's working on it, should be here any day now
