  1. wow, @kye, awesome~! thank you for the visual aides!!! i get it now ? edit: ykno, ive been looking at arri footage for awhile now, but this is eye opening > their skin tones are super homogeneous... almost too flat...? there must be a lot of magic going on to put those hues all right on that line, and i get why they do it, but... the people in the arri shots look somewhat... mannequinesque. like, can you imagine them blushing? they are kinda wax like ?
  2. kye, what do you mean by "the line"?
  3. @Ilia3101 looks awesome!! great work!!!
  4. i hear ya! for me, in general, i want to get a feeling for the basics for something like this, then go explore all the zillions of ways to do things my suggestion is, just make a simple lil project, such as regrading existing footage like @scotchtape said (great way to see how much better resolve does with color), and when youre grading just use serial nodes. all the node options are complex, but i made a short without knowing anything about any of them... and i did a lot of coloring in post. buncha stuff. and everyone loves the color. its colorful lol point is, it was a GREAT learning experience, and NOW im ready to get into the more challenging aspects of the program
  5. @kye the paid upgrades for MacOS (formerly OSX) are a thing of the past – its all free now, all the time~!
  6. It's that time of year again!! stacks actually looks pretty sweet. anybody download it yet? hows your system running? any issues?
  7. dont violate copyrights guys its very simple!!!! dont be like this guy!!!! sure, his video hasnt been taken down IN EIGHT YEARS, but dont do this!!! iz bad!!!
  8. @mercer yeah, i made my short in resolve, its easy once you get the hang of it!! as far as color in acr vs resolve: it IS different, but... its darn similar. one thing ive seen for sure is that resolve gives a render with slightly more detail – i did some comparisons and thats what i found. but the difference isnt dramatic grading from ml raw in acr feels more different than it is, i think because im always using a super flat bmd profile in resolve, building up an image from what is virtually a gray rectangle, compared with the punchy saturated look youre greeted with in acr
  9. actually ive never used premiere with ml raw... when i first started screwing around with the ml files, figuring them out, i used acr through photoshop to grade, exported as tif files, then opened the files as an image sequence. so ghetto i know! ?
  10. @mercer, just wondering, are you not happy with resolve...? every now and then ill use ACR for a clip, but i have no "workflow" cuz i only do it occasionally ? i still love my 5d3 raw too!! ???
  11. omg this MAKES NO SENSE ever seen anything like this before??? WHAT!!! ?
  12. i dont wanna change the subject, but greg sesteros audiobook for the disaster artist is amazing. its not the movie, its his book, and he does an AMAZING tommy impression the whole time. some priceless moments, check it out
  13. hmm. does this happen to other ppl? ive only had a couple resolve crashes over the last few versions, but its when im pushing my system to the limit edit: on an ancient 2013 imac with 8GB of ram ?
  14. yeah, he beats any alarm system lol. you see a 176lb dog in the window... just move on to the next house
  15. i tried to watch the video but i couldnt... its a 20 min adobe ad. wow are they great. we're so lucky to have their great subscription service im all in with resolve!! just try it guys!! do a short lil project in there to get the hang of it! its not that hard, youll see! next is fusion~! if i could get on the photoshop only plan id be so happy lol
  16. omg that video is amazing is this a tommy wiseau side project?

    Color science

i disagree all the directors shooting big features on film are not doing it because the color is the same

  19. fwiw i did notice that the new mini has hdmi 2.0, so if youre trying to get 4k at 60hz out to a tv, i guess thatll work?
  20. ykno, not tryin speak truth to power or call out the elephant in the room but... youtube is built on the back of © infringement thats what makes all this so lame its WILDLY hypocritical and they know that
  21. OH MY GOD in all seriousness Zach, its good to hear from you. it sounds like youre doing well. i really respect the steps youve taken to get your shit together. i would be happy to try to share some knowledge, as im sure would others, but youve gotta promise to listen, and to see the positive intent of our comments. okay?
  22. @IronFilm im sorry, i dont mean to be negative, i was painting all night thinking about art lol i guess i feel like the money was spent in these videos on all the nuts and bolts aspects of the production in each case, things like THE CAMERA, the way it moves, lighting, etc., which makes perfect sense, dont get me wrong~! but conceptually, the three are quite similar, and i guesss i dont think that the increased budget made the clips better so i was thinking about that, from a nonconceptual standpoint, looking at the production in technical terms, why is that? and i think its because: ive become so desensitized to watching "amateurish" smartphone videos, presented as being professional, that it has become the new normal edit: yes ofc i see the difference in production quality, im saying its not reflected in overall quality. all three ads suck. if i paid $1000 for the first ad id honestly be like WTF... is this a joke? thats why i said that! its AWFUL. *NOTHING* is good about it... nothing!!!! it stinks on paper: its poorly written, poorly conceived, unoriginal and boring. the acting is awful, that guy sucks, hes not funny... i mean what the hell ? there are THOUSANDS of 6 SECOND VINE VIDEOS that are borderline amazing with a budget of $0 sorry to be such a hard ass (i admit it lol), and i understand the point about production being scaled in various ways due to budget! a great exercise, i think, would be to commission something like this, with the SAME SCRIPT, something that presents some production challenges on the page, then produce the films on wildly different budgets. the low budget film would be forced to be super creative in that regard, while the high budget film would have awesome tools which make the impossible possible, or at least way easier im just thinking out loud! hands up dont shoot! ?
