First test of Magic Lantern on the Canon EOS R by EOSHD and A1ex
kaylee replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
WHAAAAAT NOOO WAY SO SOON OMGZ?!?!? GREAT WORK GUYS AWESOMEEEE i didnt even have a chance to write a post about how insanely disappointing this frankencamera is thank you for your sacrifice Andrew!!! it is clearly God's will that you bought this camera at this very moment. worst case scenario, you could get one of those long haired guinea pigs to sail on it. theyre pretty cool -
im seriously telling u andrew its easy to make stuff that sounds like radiohead. thats how i got going with audio, i wanted a little melody that sounds like Everything In Its Right Place. as soon as you get started, deconstructing a particular song like that, youll see how it works and youll be making your own stuff in no time

try being a fine artist~! maybe you wont get sued https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jul/18/instagram-artist-richard-prince-selfies

everyone who says that copyright infringement is illegal is correct @Andrew Reid have you ever tried making music? it might be easier than you think i dont wanna say that a fucking monkey could use garageband on an ipad but... i mean a gorilla definitely could. they can learn american sign language edit: look, heres an actual video of me editing

my only tip is do NOT underestimate the motion and the unsteadiness of your footing mind you ive never been in a helicopter bc im scared of them lol, but thats my experience shooting on a boat for SURE (@ReinisK), but even a slow moving train, or... really anything thats moving. maybe not a rolls royce, they promise that "magic carpet ride" seriously tho, @64mulford, it sounds like a super cool opportunity, but if you dont mind me asking, is this just a chance to shoot from a helicopter or is it for a specific project...? just cuz, drones. they do a lot of stuff these days

hi pals just wanted yall to know that i found a pretty good solution... so my short looks ok on youtube now ive found that there is no way around some horrid banding on dark gradients when uploading 1080p, which is NOT converted to vp9 on upload... but SOME 1080p videos absolutely are vp9, ones with lots of views. so, i dont know how to get that to happen, but in lieu of that... uploading in 4k more or less solves this problem. i mean, there's still issues, but its a dramatic improvement. i experimented with adding noise, and that didnt seem to help any ALSO, i found that the gamma setting for my resolve timeline was screwing me up: under project settings, resolve had the timeline color space set to Rec.709 Gamma 2.4, i switched it to 2.2 and got a much more accurate interpretation by youtube

yes, ive found that doing business with sociopaths requires a unique approach ?

oh yeah, sorry if i was unclear, im just saying: the thing you make by yourself with no money is inherently better than the thing someone makes with lots of money and a super talented cast and crew! its more impressive, and will take you farther. it doesnt have to be perfect, either!! on the other thand, if you GET the opportunity to direct Res Dogs, and BLOW IT, youre FUCKED. so... six of one, half dozen the other i guess lol
-
yeah u should of course make stuff lol, u need to keep making stuff until you make something thats great~! Quentin made Res Dogs with millions of dollars and a killer cast of top actors. He can't do jack shit without all that

you can have all the email lists and social media in the world, it doesnt really matter try making something thats fucking dynamite. focus on that. then everything else will be easy
-
but you have to acknowledge that his nose is a triumph for toucans everywhere seriously tho, i LIKE email mailing lists now in the beforetime of the internet, EVERYONE did mailing lists bc there WAS no social media, and they got a bad rap... too much "spam", etc. but today i really appreciate mailing lists that have something to say, sent out by my favorite artists, musicians, and political prisoners. good stuff in my inbox!! nom nom
-
dude, @Andrew Reid _ AWESOME!! i think you should keep making videos like this. more andrew talking more of the time. i like it also: lavs also: idk why u guys are surrounded by weed, but blazee itt 42O!!! also: @DaveAltizer i like you too pal im already subscribing to your youtube!!!

-
@IronFilm lol sure is. sometimes when im trying to explain to normals how hollywood works, im just like "They dont understand figures under 1 million dollars"
-
no offense but this camera needs a sicc ad campaign
-
great info, thank you so much @KnightsFan & @Robert Collins !!!!!!! im jumping in the vfx pool!!! *splash* AAAA OMG THE WATER IS FREEZING
-
I'm thinking after effects, what would you guys recommend? Im making a logo intro something like this stuff. not as complex, transparent background so it can go over video basically making the type logo a deeply extruded 3d object with lots of gimmicks lol something like whats here just after 2:05 https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x776o6

that link is down but thats ok!!! wow, was this your first film, or first feature?? the thing about filmmaking, if i may, is that its almost impossible. @mercer used that word, and thats a great way to put it. its true. and if youre ever going to get to a level where things are easier because you have a *crack* team around you who could actually make the film by themselves if you had to go home sick (dances with wolves), you have to make films virtually by yourself to get there – which again is damn near impossible my friend ted hart says that. i mean when he says "the things i do in the ring are almost impossible" – thats true. he never gets hurt. hes edgier than a box of razorblades, and hes arguable a tremendous professional failure, but the point remains
-
jonsey, that trailer was AMAZING!! ??? what tha heck!! i had no idea?!! whats the story with the film (Luggage)? can i watch the whole thing online somewhere?? i agree with @mercer, the lovely art direction and cinematography in this trailer perform far beyond how a camera can – you could shoot on potato, jonesy~! what r u up to right now?? *I* need as many bits and Ks as possible for emotional support ? seriously tho, cant believe that was shot on a 7d... awesome I couldnt agree more, very well said @mercer thats the story of my life. keep plugging away. if you have to, just keep your head down, and dont look at what other people are doing. chances are, youll wake up one day being the person you once dreamed of being
-
wait i wanna see the trailer!! where is it?
-
??? has Hitler heard about this camera yet ???

some great info there, thanks~! definitely answers SOME of my questions i hate youtube so much... if everybody was using a computer like me, itd be ok, but normal people watch stuff on tablets and phones, and thats never the same. if i go on an ipad to my video on youtube and force the desktop site so that it DOES play in 4k, its still murdered by compression that shouldnt be there if its the "4k" file – outrageous banding~! infuriating!! not the same at all!! any thoughts on that guys? like i know at the end of the day its about accepting a happy medium but... theres so many darker shots in my short. i was so happy when i finally wrestled resolve into a grade that looked nice with little to no banding, but its TRAPPED INSIDE MY COMPUTER ARRrrrgghhh
