hmmm i see... yes im doing some tests, and it seems the safe thing for youtube is (1) no gradients, and (2) no dark shots. unfortunately my film is full of both. speaking of capitalism, i would have to start paying vimeo ~$50~ a month to upload this amount of data~! ?

just shots where i envisioned what i wanted in the frame, and i was picturing a wide angle, and i thought the wide end of my 24-105 was wide enough, but it wasnt exactly what i had in mind as far as the shots in a very small room thats the answer to your question: a very small room that is supposed to feel small and claustrophobic, but having a wider angle for an establishing shot wouldve been nice. mind you this is a real location – if there was no fourth wall it wouldnt be a problem ?

UH OH~! i forgot that the youtube app doesnt go above 1080p on a phone (right?), so ppl on mobile will not see the 4k version, theyll see the 1080p version that looks TERRIBLE OH NOES!!! ?
-
update: that WORKED! banding has been more or less annihilated the color saturation seems to be a bit low in the darker scenes on youtube. looks ok tbh but ill work on that...
-
one thing i learned making my short is that i wouldve like a MUCH wider angle than 24mm on full frame i did NOT anticipate that lol
-
yeah thanks guys thats what im doing. i uprezzed the whole thing using Resolve's super scale from 1080p to UHD, and it look surrprisingly good _ awesome feature~! ill just experiment with uploading the problem scenes like u said @kye runnin it thru after effects with a 4% noise adjustment layer added in 32bit color seemed to help a lot... ill experiment lol

Yeah id like to upload on youtube tho seems Id have to pay for vimeo too (?!) upload limit file size is 500MB ?

Hi Pals!! Well, I'm on the road to making a lil film, and my render out of Resolve looks pretty good, but when I upload it to Youtube, guess what...? ? YOU GUESSED IT THE BANDING IS HORRIBLE Unfortunately, my short has a bunch of dark shots, and this is obviously where the problem lies. The daylight exposure shots look fine. So, what do I dooo?? I think the short answer is add noise/dither? I've pulled this off with stills but NOT with video. What are the specific methods you guys use to combat this mess?? The first test upload seriously ruined my film so i haveta figure out something ?

Yeah! You might want to reread it, I did, and it is AMAZING how much i know about filmmaking now compared to the first time i read it years ago. i mean i still dont kno wtf im doing lol... but. its getting better anyway, remember how RR cut Mariachi *on video*, and THAT got the film sold?!?!? All the screwy cuts that didnt work, which he THEN made part of the style of the film...? crazy stuff!! anyway, MY first short that im finishing right now doesnt have dialogue because i was literally like Eff that Im not dealing with recording audio on the set, so I wrote something without dialogue ? glad i did~! Easy! and then it also has that international no subtitles "transcending language" kind of flair maybe write something w/o dialogue, something short, just for the ease of shooting it @mercer...? just a thought!!

when I said I was gonna make a youtube miniseries and asked for advice, a bunch of people on here said Uhhh... maybe you should start with something shorter... and ***they were RIGHT*** i ended up making a 4 min film – WAY WAY SMARTER IN EVERY WAY. glad i did. just throwing it out there that being said, the more commercial your project is, the more you need to worry about shit like this. my short is, at best, proof of concept that i can make films – im not trying to directly profit from it in any way financially. of course i have releases, but what are you going to sue me for, 30% of $0? good luck with that my point @salim is that IF YOU MIGHT EVER SELL THIS FILM FOR MONEY, TO ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, YOU NEED RELEASES ON EVERYTHING. that is the professional answer the fear of course being that some a-hole sues you in the future, after your project becomes profitable. if thats a non-issue, then who cares. but you have to make that determination finally, there is the concept in all of this that people should understand the release theyre signing. if they dont its actually worthless in court – not that that comes up, but its like a cop reading you your miranda rights, You have the right to remain silent, etc, and then asking, DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IVE TOLD YOU? a conversation like that means a lot more to me than a piece of paper. when it comes to hardcore IP issues, have a talk with ppl, and get them to sign something. if its an actor or location release for an indie short, dont trip too hard, but at least make the actors sign a standard release

If netflix is commissioning you to make a show, and you want to use a camera thats not on their list, im sure you can just tell them. i would id be like "Id rather shoot with Camera X because A, B, C". what are they gonna say, "no"? also, what is the theoretical camera that people want to shoot with that isnt on their list? potato is there

did u guys see this

I'm standing at the edge of the pool... ?

Sure... it was a rhetorical question, just thinking philosophically lol
-
has it ever happened in history that someone made a good film that ppl liked that didnt get picked up strictly because of the camera it was shot on? im guessing no

Can we all just have a big f***ing laugh about this...

In all seriousness, I cant stand the high crop factor cams. Its a fookin hybrid camera, for stills AND video. give me a break! -
