  1. out of likes /thats important. context
  2. honestly i watched ten seconds of that video and i was like "hire a supermodel" lol
  3. legit question: when was the last time a short or a directors career took off bc of a festival? NOT cuz a video also has 3 million views on vimeo seriously curious abt whats going on in these streets
  4. i thought that was cool~! as a fine artist, ill avoiding criticizing the validity of the names he mentioned as examples, or the frame to painting direct analogy, bc its nitpicking, and i really like Geoff's point in principle ive said the same thing essentially, maybe playing devils advocate, trying to open peoples minds how much dynamic range does this image have? i must have a RED® camera with at least 15 stops
  5. @kidzrevil im out of likes (whats that all abt???) /YES i WILL!! thanks for the recommendation ?
  6. i dont want to change the subject, but guess who went to the vet and now weighs 175lbs
  7. no kidding. is it worth it for my 4 yr old samsung plasma?
  8. thanks @squig~~! ill pm you the first shot should be low contrast and dark. im actually ramping the exposure a bit during the second shot, like its dawning the first shot is the first shot of the film, it fades in from black and that guy is asleep, and he awakes in the dark. going for subtle there i need one. my 2013 imac isnt cutting it, and my plasma can look great but its uncalibrateable lol. just looking for a happy medium across devices u kno edit: oh and @mercer i emailed u a dng!
  9. i want the top shot to be really dark and low contrast... hes "waking up in the dark". its definitely pushing it tho lol honestly, i think thats what happened -- those shots were noisy as heck before lowering the exposure several stops, desaturating, etc. i can post a dng frame you can check out if u want. but yeah its resolves magic and idk what else, but it seems to have worked ok?? edit: oh and i havent even gotten into noise reduction or any of that. i thought i was gonna have to just to make these clips look ok, but not at all the noise is rlly nice and magic lantern-y. itll need a little work but it seems like a suprisingly successful experiment (?) ill post some full res pics and the dngs when im off of work ?
  10. im using a hacked camera from 2012. thats where im at with canon edit: i tried to read that article and the first sentence had me cracking up ?????? AAAAHAHAHAAA... thats just so FUNNY but... maybe its true lol
  11. you guessed it im using a 24-105 IS L for the entire short~! tempted to have less light and wider apertures, but "movies are shot at f/4" and all
  12. ? it so is 80% of the time you just point it at stuff and everything looks amazing
  13. absolutely. im basically talking about light sources, speculars. or creatively you might want to do something different, but i mean "whites", if you will edit: and i can just kind of judge how much i can recover the highlights based on where they clip onscreen edit 2: im gonna write a guide called The Laziest Way to Shoot Raw
  14. no im not using any exposure aid ??? i can only attribute this to being really familiar with the stills from the camera – i knooo its not the same, but its similar – and ive been shooting lil practice clips for months, messing around in post just trying to get a feel for it yup, thats the idea~! although in practice its kind of a "concept" i reach for ?
  15. I kno right. that guy in those shots has been GREAT. so cool. one lady ditched me, and im still yet to meet the third actor in person, so im 50/50 on this one so far lol and now that i think about it, heres the reality of my stupid way of exposing: i dont like to have stuff on the screen, peaking, histogram, anything, i prefer a clean view to having that stuff. SO, im exposing by eye, and what i do is... well, it depends if i know i want to pull maximum dr out of the shot, im gonna ETTR as much as i think i can get away with. but for most shots, i just expose so that the highlights clip where i want on the screen, and that seems to give me plenty of room to recover highlights in post. super ghetto, i kno what i mean is: any shot where i want anything in it to clip, i just adjust to that end with whats on the screen, so its clipping the way i want exposure-wise right on the screen. in 5dr raw there isnt a ton of dr to work with, but i like the way it clips as long as its exposed correctly, u kno? does that make any sense ?
  16. thank you thank u!!! theres already been shenanigans... broken air conditioner, legit had to reschedule... actress just took another (much better) job... ::sigh::: mercer, i dont know how to do anything, but those screen grabs actually absolutely represent some very dicey exposing those shots were at iso 6400, normally exposed, and then i pulled them way down in post... seemed to take care of the noise nicely (???) literally no idea what im doing tho lol. wouldnt have shot that high but..... it happened edit: and im totally exposing by eye, based on my tests. im...... a moron
  17. i am finally shooting my little ml raw film omg wish me luck guyzzz
  18. lol i hear ya... but this lil short doesnt have any dialogue~!
  19. gotcha, thanks! so, im making a short with no dialogue right now, is enabling subtitles a good idea with something like that just to make google happy? is that the idea? ill do whatever lol
  20. hmmm... whats this about? cards, subtitles/algorithm? ?
  21. i got halfway thru that video, and im seeing some different looks. could you post some screen grabs of the exact result youre seeking?
  22. wow Andrew, im really impressed~! i echo the sentiments of others. additionally, i thought the reds looked GREAT! i was like... RED!!!! OMG!!!! NO KIDDING LOOOOL uhh yeah... i was thinking that too, how things MUST have gotten better, havent been following Sony closely lately however, your before/after goes from puke to awesome, still looks shitty beforehand lol. so cheers to you for that!!
  23. unless im mistaken, its the same old thing, like for the short im making... vimeo or youtube? vimeo = maybe better quality if it works, better community for critical praise/staff pick, etc. doesnt work a lot which is v bad for ppl with 4 sec attention spans (everyone) youtube = always works, uploading a robust 4k clip can work to beat 1080 quality limitations, HUGE social network, everyones on it if youre gonna pick one over the other, the choice seems p obvious. well, what about uploading to BOTH sites? that works for plenty of ppl with hot videos, but if you have, say 5k views, do you want to divide them over different platforms? its a quandry
