  1. yeah, thanks @Don Kotlos, that totally makes sense! anybody else have any thoughts?
  2. alright, i really need to reach out to you geniuses for this one, heres the effect i want to do theres this concept of an out of body experience, astral projection, whatever you want to call it, maybe thats the best thing to call what i want to do, but its a specific sequence that ill describe. i want to create an effect where: youre looking straight down at someone body lying in bed. then, a translucent version of the body rises, at the same rate as the camera, as the camera moves UP, through the roof, out to SPACE. (yes, space) i figure that between a camera in a bedroom with a cut "through the roof", a drone that then takes off from the roof, google earth footage (??), and some space/earth stock footage, i could make this work somehow it doesnt need to appear completely continuous at all, its all in the feel of it. so like if the drone part was shot on a cloudy day, the clouds could be a place to cut or something. idk how would you guys go about doing this? ALSO: if youve seen something practically just like this before, PLEASE let me know and if possible link me up. im not tryin to go to all this effort if someones already done a better job lol
  3. thatd be dope!!! id get one EDIT: wait, would the touch screen dpaf work alongside magic lantern for video? speaking of cameras with flippy screens, did you guys see this patent?
  4. great stuff @Kelly, thank you so much congratulations on your film, cant wait to see it~! let us know when its online!!
  5. i will stay tuned, @Kelly! looks fantastic!! very cinematic im shooting a 5d3 raw ml short film soon myself – any tips???? lol i know there are many, but what jumps out after making this film? again, looks awesome, my only suggestion is that the initial typography could use some work looking forward to seeing more!!! great work!!!!
  6. the original msrp was $15k!!! ? so crazy
  7. wow, i have a new least favorite poster is this a troll? is this zach goodwin anyway in other news lookit the spooky pumpkin i carved!!! happy halloween guys!!!
  8. UPDATE: okay ive got it!! (that was a long bath) im basically gonna make a pilot, like 14 min long, divided into 3 parts, so theyre 4:56ish (under 5 min episodes) thereby acknowledging all the folks on this board and irl who have said "45 min?!? you might as well make a feature!!!" as well as peeps who have wisely stated "Keep the episodes short, thats what I watch" netflix, here i come~! p.s. been working on show themes. mind u this is spooky and supernatural. thinking about using this as a background track
  9. it can be whatever i dont believe in doing any kind of screenwriting unless i know how long somethings supposed to be lol. i understand the spirit of what youre saying, but thats the feature i wrote that i love that i cant afford to make rn, im not cutting shit out of that. ppl will like it, itll find an audience, im confident. but i have to actually *make* something first that shows competency, thats what this project is right exactly yes i do, good point. ill be thinking this over ykno what writers do when the going gets tough? #bubble bath
  10. help 911 i need u guys again i wrote a first 4 1/2 page episode and ive gotten some good feedback. a friend keeps saying that a total of, say 9 episodes is way too long, too hard, and itd prolly be just as effective and way easier boiled down to say 15 min. (lights out is 2:42 and it seemed to work out p well) SOUNDS LIKE IT MAKES SENSE TO ME??? idek anymore lol hmmm...
  11. wow i pictured berlin not serving this delicacy
  12. nice id like to see a d850 vs 5d4 shootout ?
  13. UPDATE: look at me i wrote the first episode!! its a rough draft but if u wanna read it pm me, its only 4 1/2 pages! (@Zak Forsman ?)
  14. ive been looking for some d850 footage of humans in daylight... is there such a thing? lol ill keep looking EDIT: whoops this applies
  15. for sure @Zak Forsman if you dont mind me asking, what do you think about all this?? ur so smart pls tell me im still thinking ~9 (+/-) 5 min episodes to the contrary, i think that it HAS to be good to be worth doing – the cream rises to the top sort of thing. otherwise its a complete waste of time and effort to me personally. and i like spooky shows, i mean id be happy if netflix said 'Make this into a full blown series'. itd be fun i dont!!! thats the entire point of this project. i need $250k for my feature and i want to release it as part of an art show that has other... expenses. AND... lmao i shouldve mentioned this: i need an actual example of something GOOD that ive directed, that any normal person could look at and say 'Oh ok i can see how this person could direct a movie'. not my weird art videos – ppl like those but *I* wouldnt give me money for a feature based on those... i need something legit now THATS a whole other discussion lol... maybe ill comment on that after i figure out how long to make this frickin thing im trynna write... ? AAAAAND lastly, @Liam i appreciate the spirit of your comments, but keep in mind that within my fine art practice, i can do literally whatever i want. THATS where my first feature that im trynna make exists, but i ALSO want to direct commercial stuff... like The Sandman movies (its a comic). i have a whole plan lol theyll make a billion
  16. thats a good question again, i think its bc young ppl like short videos on youtube, and itll get waaay more views and attention that way... am i wrong? i mean im not trying to go to festivals to promote this project, im trying to get attention on youtube to lead to my NEXT projects, getting my foot in the door at agencies so i can explain abt my art practice and all the great ideas i have for making them lots of money. i mean ill totally look into all the short horror things out there, like all the awards lights out won lol, but whats really great is that davids gone on to bigger and better things in essence i think that • web series of short vids is hip and kewl with the kids (actual 13-yr olds) • and its also hip and kewl with producers and agencies who are aware of the massive amount of long form episodic content being produced rn • and all that works together. netflix is a huge part of it, all the vod services, smartphones, etc. its whats hot rn aaaannnd maybe a less valid reason, is that i like breaks as a storytelling device. gives me something to write around, a little structure this discussion is good for my brain, gets it moving lol. im going to mull all this over while doing laundry this evening ? whoops~! ? @mercer i somehow misread this as implying a much longer short film than you might mean – are you thinking something shorter? like how long?
  17. great advice, and tbh i think i get all that but im not rlly planning on doing a vlog/bts stuff bc.... i like watching all that but its not for me. as much as i know it could be interesting to indie filmmakers, it exposes that i dont know wtf im doing lol. AND, more importantly, im really all for suspension of disbelief, and against doing anything that doesnt support that goal nevertheless, i couldnt agree more that @rdouthit is right on the ball. but bear in mind that all i want out of this project is: (1) enough views to not be embarrassed, and (2) to get my foot in the door at a talent agency to illustrate my 'big vision' the entire concept of webisodes (god i hate that word) in my mind is simply that getting ppl to click on a video thats 4:56 long is WAYYY different than a clip that says 44:23, u kno? and if ppl like one and wanna see the next then :boom: playlist there it is thanks for reminding me about lights out, i saw that when it came out but watching it again was inspiring. im gonna check out more of those horror shorts!! i knooo i was thinking about that?? im not sure anymore ughhhhh ?
  18. wait, what does the algorithm care about?
