omg ? this is too funny i just legit spent three hours in traffic to see a 5d3 where the shutter count was a LIE~!!!! dude posted a screenshot of the clicks in his ad and i checked the serial when i got there and it was completely different! and to my face he was like "I dont know anything about that"
-
hi @Kurtisso! i like both the posts above, and I might expand on those comments, but first: what kind of "storytelling" are you pursuing? are you trying to write short films, maybe a feature? something else? if youre booking professional wrestling im going to give you some very different advice

Guys I need your help! Im shopping for a used 5d3, and I would really appreciate your feedback regarding some questions I have! Just a few, here we go: (1) while many sellers happily provide a shutter count, several people have said when asked that "There is no way to know the true shutter count. You can only tell how many shots were taken since last battery recharge which has nothing to do with actual shutter count", or something to that effect. What the heck! I thought there were several software tools to determine that info... are they unreliable? Is this pure ignorance, or is there some truth to this? I find it hard to believe that an accurate number of actuations can only be determined by sending the body to Canon. On the other hand, many sellers have no problem posting screenshots like this ...I'm confused! What's goin on? (2) Regarding firmware: I'm buying this body to shoot ML raw (exciting!!). It is my understanding that regardless of which version of Canon's firmware is currently loaded on the cam, a *previous* version can be loaded if necessary – is that correct? As a buyer should I care about which firmware is on the camera when I get it? (3) This is clearly subjective, but how much do you guys care about minor body damage, scrapes/etc? As long as the body isn't too beat up, it's all good to me, but is there anything in particular I should watch out for? A scratch-free LCD is my only priority I guess... anything I'm overlooking there? (4) Anything else? – I'm gonna go see the camera in person and have the seller demonstrate the fact that it's working properly, making in focus exposures, etc, before I buy it ...am I forgetting anything? To be honest I have bought and sold like 12 cameras/lenses on craigslist here in southern California over the years, and I've never had any problems, but this is a big purchase for me and a camera which I may have for many many years to come, and I don't wanna screw this up...! Any and all thoughts on my purchase would be MUCH appreciated. I might pull the trigger on this as soon as Saturday.... wish me luck~! Thank you ❤️ K

omg! i would buy that right this hot second!!!

wow i wish i could find a deal like that!!! im looking right now. here in southern california people are selling bodies for $1800 with 350k clicks!!! (or at least trying to.) at that price im thinking i might as well get one refurbished from canon for a little bit more, with a warranty... im trying to buy used to SAVE money lol

@Liam ive been meaning to repsond to this thread ive just been busy. its awesome to hear what youre working on. you clearly have a lot of fighting spirit – making films is really hard! dont give up. keep doing it question: are you able to say in a word what your film is like, or what its about...? my thought is that any kind of cross-promotional marketing you can do might be really helpful. example: the film is about a pro wrestler, so you flyer an indie wrestling show. you get them to post on their facebook. your film is about a skateboarder, so you send the short to famous skateboarders on twitter, and one of them puts it over to his 3.7 million followers a lot of wise comments above about film festivals and the reality of all that. depends on your goals i guess, as well as your tolerance for paying hundreds of dollars to be ignored lol anyway, it sounds like you have an accurate, sober view of whats going on, which is more than a lot of people. go get em!!

reading the name of this thread i just realized that slog is a word ? so perf slog /släɡ/ verb 1. work hard over a period of time "they were slogging away to meet a deadline" synonyms: work hard, toil, labor, work one's fingers to the bone, work like a Trojan/dog, exert oneself, grind, slave, grub, plow, plod, peg; More antonyms: relax • walk or move with difficulty or effort "he slogged home through the gray slush" synonyms: trudge, tramp, tromp, traipse, toil, plod, trek, footslog "they slogged around the streets" noun: slog; plural noun: slogs 1. a spell of difficult, tiring work or traveling "it would be a hard slog back to the camp" synonyms: hard work, toil, toiling, labor, effort, exertion, grind, drudgery antonyms: leisure ?

and thats why there should be interest in doing that, and why we should continue to foster this discussion: because it would be SOooooo great im currently shopping for a used 5d3 for stills and ml raw video. if that camera shot raw in 4k, with more dynamic range, and maybe a bit of a smoother highlight rolloff, id be good on cameras that i need to own vs rent for a looong time

"Just do it in post, same thing, saves a ton of time just shooting a master"

i kno rite. luckily im a subscriber so i can always have the LATEST bugs!! i havent had a chance to get into premiere yet but im v happy to see color range secondary adjustments in lumetri and the proxy worflow is much needed for photoshop users there are some nice new features, like content aware crop, and if you use liquify a lot to work on images of people this is dope

agree honestly i was so high when i wrote that post? and i didnt mean to be an asshole. i just want e-penis points theres a lot of right brain/left brain stuff that goes on in filmmaking that i find very interesting, and also very challenging. the struggle is real edit: oh btw... i rented a 5ds for some stills, and it, imho, sucked. i got the shots i needed but its super noisy when the iso is turned up ~at all~. no different than what id seen online, and what i expected, just kinda lame for a full frame "high resolution" sensor to need sooo much light for optimal results. just my experience; anybody have different results...? i havent done the research on digital mf bodies, but i sure hope that those bigger sensors do a LOT better with less light

its funny how the most technical people often have zero aesthetic sense ooo looks like i have 236 e-penis points ?

it absolutely is and thats ironic because it is ~THE~ most important thing to me about anybody i hire and its the most important thing to me when it comes to the perception of others – you can think that i dont have any talent, you can think that my art sucks, but i wont let you think that im not the calm assertive leader that i say i am, that i dont shake hands with ~everyone~, that im not available to patiently answer questions 24/7, 365, even on leap year what im saying is that its more important that you like working with me than that you respect me as an artist, and i take my art practice p seriously. then again – i cant have one without the other also, i was just referencing art and filmmaking, but you said business – which COULDNT BE MORE ACCURATE. these principles apply to, what, everything in life? damn near really, REALLY enjoyable?? i love it @M Carter id hire you just to provide moral support and positive vibes – i need it seriously tho, great post
