Is the majority online really idiots? (Ghostbusters Trailer)
kaylee replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
upon rereading my giant post about ghostbusters, it seems like that subject struck a nerve with me lol of course i cant edit it now... and i have to look at "youre" staring me in the face for the rest of my life smh but, yeah, mattias has a point which is worth underscoring without me going on an sfx tirade: if this were any other movie sequel with 4 male leads recast as 4 female leads, the reaction would be the same: a massive amount of dislikes for the trailer on youtube which is wildly disproportionate to the trailers for other mediocre films which are virtually identical -
id love to see your trailer squig go get em ...sooo does vimeo know about youtube? like do they even? its a v popular website i NEVER get links to vimeo from people who arent filmmaking people @VimeoStaff. NEVER. this is a niche which you need to serve. its your only hope lasvegasbarbie does not post on vimeo for a reason. and when i want to watch serval videos do you know where i go? legit shows like jay lenos garage arent coming over any time soon... imagine saying that to jays producer, "vimeo". theyd laugh at you and for good reason

i agree mattias, i was making two different points. the massive amount of dislikes are absolutely a picture of misogyny -

feminism is the radical idea that women are people – crazy, i kno... feminism is about equality, not about replacing men with women ? although theres a ton of misogyny in those youtube comments, mattias has a valid point indeed, i dont see how this particular film benefits from 4 female leads btw: i fucking LOVE ghostbusters. the original film is one of my favs of all time when i watched the new trailer, i thought it was pretty good, but that was based on my expectation that it would be HORRID why? an all female cast sounded like a would-be money grabbing gimmick to me, the particulars of the casting didnt change my mind, and i figured that contemporary half assed vfx would be the icing on the cake one of the keys to me about ghostbusters – a film with a premise about "ghosts", campy, campy ghosts, that do not exist – is how the film feels real, in a way that many 21st century movies do not i have a theory: the more absurd the story youre telling is in terms of general believability and moreover supernatural elements, the more it benefits from feeling like it takes place in the real world ghostbusters feels like new york city – not just a city but that city. the cinematography and sound design just kills it. i feel like i can smell the exhaust from the cars on the street the photography based sfx in ghostbusters feels completely tangible imo compared to vfx characters. for example, stay puft? is MADE OF MARSHMALLOW. hes a GIANT MARSHMALLOW MAN. for me, effects like that are more convincing than anything made from 3d vfx models, from lord of the rings to transformers if i was directing ghostbusters (or transformers) in 2016, id take the same approach used in the original ghostbusters: id build models, shoot them carefully, and use the awesome technology we have at our disposal for compositing, with a subtle vfx sprinkle of sugar on top to tie it all together in closing, the most fundamental thing i need to do as a filmmaker is: use storytelling to make people wanna spend money does this trailer do that? maybe so, but i think it could be a lot better -
i hear ya matt! but people like me want that to be a 5/5 when it comes to playing 1080 without reverting to standard def mush. some say thats the point of vimeo – controlling what the audience sees, despite the users connection speed

forbes70 is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma alex jones said it was a hot topic at the last bilderberg meeting... theyre obsessed with anything they cant control

uhmm this is only slightly off topic lol.... if this is true http://www.canonrumors.com/there-will-be-a-4k-5d-camera-cr2 – that theres a 5d4ish 4k slr coming soon, would you all expect it to shoot motion jpeg for 4k like the 1dxii and 1dc? theres definitely something about the motion of the 1dc... it just feels like solid, independent frames to me, like film frames in that sense... hard to explain but i know what you guys mean

interesting huh i guess we will see! question: what would you guys like better? - a 5d4 that shoots soft 1080p, but pretty good 4k at a +/- 1.4x crop, with no c-log ~or~ - a 5d4 that shoots amaaazing 1080p from a full readout of the sensor with c-log but no 4k at all

i didnt either i was nice!! lol im a vimeo user but i dont pay for plus or pro – ive just used it for ~watching~ video. i was *planning* on getting a plus or pro account to support the new stuff im working on but as soon as they made these changes i was like Uhhh no. anyway, i wrote them feedback, they even have an option for people who arent paying members yet i wrote: Hi friends, I've enjoyed using Vimeo very much over the last several years, and I have been looking forward to upgrading to a Pro account to support my first feature film, but it has come to my attention that Vimeo's public playback structure has changed insofar as it will now "Auto-Select" a playback quality for viewers; and the tab where one could specify what playback quality is assigned has been removed. Since controlling playback quality is the one and only reason that I would pay for a Plus or Pro account, I am no longer planning to do so. I wanted to share this feedback in hopes that your product team will take it under advisement. Very best wishes, Me see how nice i was Zak??

Bernie Sanders add "It's Not Over" shot in anamorphic

absolutely agree. i was just wondering cuz i thought the color was deep and really nice -
wow kewlll!!!! its coming this year i swear. ill send u a link great link, ive been there before but havent spent enough time. this is going in my queue lolol ??????? so true and the ppl who lift stuff from fine art usually look like geniuses to their peers because no one knows the source material hellz yeah for people who have never seen stuff like this before, you should definitely check it out, as filmmakers it might broaden your horizons, in a good way~! the cremaster cycle is kinda like taking dmt in relation to filmmaking (only it lasts way, waaay longer lol) the thing that amazes me the most about contemporary artists is how unique each respective practice is i like bill a lot. on a personal level, ive been disappointed in the relative reluctance of collectors to embrace video, as they do other media. i hate to say it, but rich old [white] people want a jeff koons sculpture in their backyard. when it comes to satisfying that need.... ::sigh:: even i have to give jeff credit i am seriously a terrible resource for this its kind of embarrassing. the truth is, i havent been paying too much attention to the fine art world for the last 5 years or so, ive been learning everything i can about dealing with hollywood and commercial filmmaking in general, fine artists are terrible at being a community. we tend to not get along well with each other, and we spend a lot of time alone. tbh its very competitive when i first got into filmmaking i breathed a sigh of relief... its a much more welcoming environment believe it or not. in filmmaking theres this idea of a team, and we all need each other, no one does this stuff alone~! graduate film students all help each other, while graduate fine art students all hate each other lol

omg ? > seriously tho, Zak is one of the most GENEROUS filmmakers on all of the internets, and his insight is exceptionally valuable because of how goddam talented he is i WISH i had a team like Zak does. invaluable. i would feel like "this movie [im making] is gonna be amazing we're gonna make a lot of money" instead of "?????!!!!" lastly, purely in terms of business models, Down and Dangerous is a fantastically educational case study, thanks to the fact that Zak has graciously shared so much information about his process. the trailer itself is so professional it transcends any perception of low budget filmmaking. if i saw the trailer for D&D on television during a commercial break on fox in 2016 it would never occur to me that it didnt belong there. clearly paramount pictures feels the same way so, fyi: Zak Forsman isnt some jabroni, hes an awesome dude*. thanks for the inspiration, Zak *and ruggedly handsome i might add

nicely done any guesses on the camera? i definitely have one but i am not going first on this lol RIP Eric Garner indeed. ny cops have been *completely* out of control for a looong time -
thank you for your thoughts, thats very insightful commentary, since that is essentially exactly what im doing my work is kind of like the cremaster cycle, but watchable and entertaining theres a huge emphasis on important live events that drive my story... and that content will be available online for free and theres all kinds of stuff in my art practice – from big drawings to sculptures and installations. so in theory one of my shows is gonna have all that stuff. and youre gonna be entertained by some kind of "show" thats kind of the big idea in the abstract if theres one thing that never ceases to amaze me its how endless the audience seems for people willing to PAY for porn kink.com is an example, and theyre considered p mainstream now, i mean theyre a huge company. my friend just did a scene for them not too long ago and she told me some of their numbers its insane like, have you ever heard of myfreecams? its a site where you can watch for free or tip the performers its an option. its the same thing if you watch it for free however tipping allows you to be interactive and... idk people love it. i know a girl who made like $130k in 3-4 months on that site and selling her own homemade webcam videos through manyvids or a site like that. now mind you she did this by first spending several years amassing a huge audience of 100k+ tumblr followers, giving them FREE content all the time. ...but would people pay for it? especially when it was free the week before? clearly in her case the answer was YES. she paid for 4 years of college in a few months, but it was after years of audience building, and frankly spending a ton of time being interactive with her fans. it worked like a charm, but shes p smart, thats my point: she planned all this out. thats what we can all learn from. the planning lol but i digress

Time to step up - Panasonic GH5 must go 6K Super 35mm to compete in 2016
kaylee replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
yeah tbh i would i like your thinking andrew v smart m43, super 35, and ff lenses w/speed booster all on the same body. hot i definitely agree that panasonic needs to step it up and be aggressive with the GH5/something under $2k id love to see this -
scary is right. depressing too why cant technology SAVE us from this to SOME degree? at least make it way harder for pirates? a motivated person is going to rip your video no matter what it takes, but what if my film was available for download not as a video file but an application which needs a time sensitive key? or something?? idk i have no idea but im gonna figure some shit like that out. if that means that you cant watch the film w/o an internet connection, so be it if youre louis ck and you have a loyal audience youve built over a lifetime of touring and making shows than you can get away with a lot of shit that poor people like me can not thank GOD im shooting for the fine art business first and foremost. nothing much has changed there in the last 30 years ? great article by zak btw http://filmschoolrejects.com/opinions/movie-worth-stealing-filmmaker-piracy-experience.php thanks lafilm

i kno i just said that although to be fair to araucaria with the color grade this does look like slog2 puke-o-vision ?
-
she is "15 years older with grey hair and bad color job" ? they both are and they look it. the production is doing no favors to these actors. they both desperately need a lot of eyebrow makeup. and i would use way softer light whenever possible. i mean im a LOT younger than them and i want that for MYSELF its an arri alexa xt

im aware of the many variables involved! the operative word in my statement was "possible" ?

hmmm interesting question... not as i recall...? im curious about how it felt different... i actually had a huge netflix marathon preparing for the new series lol i think the cinematography/production design stepped up quite a bit after the first season, and edged forward from there as time went on. as a whole i feel like the look of the show changed when they moved to california... rainy foggy goth canada just fit the vibe so well, much better than constant summer socal idk. the look of the show definitely evolved but i dont remember too much of a change around that time... how would you describe it? i must be missing something
