Yes. And a privilege to read.

I suspect that this person might just start yet another “Blackmagic Pocket 4k Cinema Camera” thread and ask the question there? Or, somewhere embedded within the “New Blackmagic 24k Pocket Cinema Camera” thread there’ll be some old-timer reminiscing about the lack of footage from the legendary 4k version.

According to the sales person in JL, it’s actually even better than you imply - you can also open the door AND GET THINGS OUT! Progress.

I wouldn’t want to make such a general sweeping statement but I think (from reading comments here) that non variable nds are likely to have a less detrimental effect on the image than a variable might. An expensive variable vs a cheap non-variable - I don’t know if that changes things. All I say is that as a hobbyist who doesn’t need the best possible image the convenience of a variableND is important (to me). I leave it on the lens and try to use it instead of (or, at least, in combination with) aperture. If I had to swop it’d take me too long, I’d drop it, I’d get dust on the lens etc etc. In short, the fun and enjoyment factor would decrease. But those are my flaws and my short-comings so shouldn’t be generalised!

I like my Heliopan (on BM micro). But the qualification to that is that as a hobbyist with possibly greater tolerance of sub-optimal performance than some of the professionals here, it’s all about convenience. Image quality or convenience... definitely something to think about...

I win! Managed 18! (Excuse - used an iPhone in the light of the Arctic night...)

All music at soundimage.org is now free for commercial use
Snowfun replied to Eric Matyas's topic in Cameras
Once again (yet too rarely stated) thank you. -
Is there such a thing as “perfect” colour? Scientifically, I suppose, yes (the correct wavelength). But artistically? Isn’t it inevitably subjective? To what extent will the colour as reproduced by a calibrated monitor be the “same” as that on the viewer’s TV or phone screen or iPad etc? Not an issue if the content is for self consumption but is it an issue more generally?

“If”? This is JJ we’re talking about... (do you cover cricket in your work?)

Interesting to see how many different interpretations there are here. Not just in the like/dislike stakes (which would be expected) but in the technical stuff too.

Just a quick thank you for supporting EOSHD over the years
Snowfun replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
“Without” adverts even! My contribution is next to zero but thank you for your generous words. Raise a glass to EOSHD! Tim -
I certainly wouldn’t object to inviting him back (he had interesting and useful stuff to say) but possibly with a request to stay on topic and less of the pseudoscience? Wasn’t there also an issue with him selling stuff (“skin tones”?) for Canon on here?

If you want to contact jcs (John Schultz) you can reach him directly at Brightland.com. Context: “As we enter into the Aquarian age we are waking up to the truth. That we are in control of our thoughts, moods, and success. Many times we get stuck in negative emotion loops. We can break through these loops and find happiness through meditation, hypnotherapy, exercise, detoxification, and optimal nutrition. Our whole planet is going through a shift into higher consciousness: it’s time to flourish and we’ll show you how!” Advertised talk with Jacqui Holland http://www.consciouslifeexpo.com/-2017-lectures/jaque-holland.html But as stated above he also knows more than just a thing or two about the C300!

I for one value your posts (here and on BM’s own fora) based as they are on extensive experience in a genuine professional environment. I hope this experience won’t dissuade you from posting. Let’s hope the delivery schedule is still realistic for September - any idea when official footage might be available?

H4Vuser.net is supposed to be going live early this week I think. It’s not yet possible to register an account.

Surely not... Isn’t it disciples only? I like the optimism about the opportunities for the 2d stuff. A genuine “pocket” cinema camera isn’t too much of a leap of faith? (Although possibly deep rather than just big pockets might be required). I dread the day when you post that you’ve picked up an H1 in the O2 store for 299...

Reading the accounts on reduser of those who did attend, the verdict seems to be heading to “good but below expectations” territory. Except the audio which is getting very positive reviews (although how accurately this could be evaluated in a crowded, presumably noisy, space is anyone’s guess). So far there seems to be little additional information about the 2d camera and “cinema” modules/lens mounts. Interesting too that the “toy boys” are being “thrown off” reduser and into a different space (h4vuser.net). JJ did comment that the devices on display were very much “prototypes” - is that likely given the impending delivery and public viewings by the carriers? I’m not cancelling my preorder - but perhaps I didn’t really expect projected life size holograms to appear...

“What I do support is the freedom of the filmmaker to make a film of his choosing without censorship.” The danger here is that this statement is difficult to distinguish from: ”...is the freedom of the person to behave in a way of his choosing without censorship.” That is anarchy. In a JCSesque happy psycho-utopia it might work but in practice there is no evidence that it can or does or has. In a civilised society there are - and must be - certain moral standards and rules which govern the behaviour and actions of individuals. Those who break those rules are liable to sanctions. And that, in my opinion, has to apply to “filmmakers” just as much as a school teacher or any other occupation or label. Yes, “creative types” push, bend and test the rules - but that is an entirely different statement than to suggest that a filmmaker should be allowed to operate entirely out-with any moral boundary. No one individual or category of individuals deserves to be exempt from the moral control which “society” - broadly understood and interpreted and not even necessarily universal - deems appropriate. Remember Zach? I’m sure he described himself as a “filmmaker”. He wasn’t allowed to express his creativity in the way he thought appropriate because he “breached” the “rules” of a “community”. Note that, as far as I am aware, no one proposed that he should have been stopped before making the film. He had the “freedom” to make it - society retains an assumed moral authority and freedom to respond in whatever way it seems appropriate. Freedom - the key word here possibly - is never unrestrained or unqualified or independent of a given framework. ”He is here to trouble us and to prod, to get us out of our comfort zone and possibly even to give a few of us nightmares.” Would that justification also apply to a terrorist? Once the statement is qualified then it inevitably acquires an unresolved ambiguity and “dies the death of a thousand qualifications”. An interesting and thought-provoking article.

New music video for British legends "The Damned", shot on GH5
Snowfun replied to Oliver Daniel's topic in Cameras
Quite a contrast to their ‘76 official video of New Rose. Great production and fitted the song and character of the band (insofar as I perceive it) perfectly. Thank you for posting this. -
Don’t worry, I’ll give you a 3D call to place my order! Back to Eurovision... (when I preordered the Pocket I was almost tempted to cancel the Hydrogen. But didn’t)
-
Yes, definitely interested - to the point that I’m sitting here with cash in hand. Fabulous work.

It’s back to the nets for you! I only got there with an unplanned edge which third man fumbled.

Of course, it depends on the purpose. I do travel stuff (“moving postcards”) so I take what’s given to me as and when I find it. Telling a story or making a documentary would be a totally different proposition (and much much harder I guess).
