In that case, I'd highly recommend ITV Studio's Shetland as shown by BBC.

Big companies could promote one-off "as used by Ebrahim Saadawi" versions...

I'm impressed by those (such as yourself) who are able to spot these things. The ability to detect what are (presumably) minor differences must be a skill learnt with years of experience. I can't see it in the footage even tho' I'm now looking! I just get sucked into watching the immersive experience. Thanks for the detail.

Just for interest, which shots?

Would an ipad provide sufficient light if the brightness is turned up and you've got one lying around?

Thanks. Yes, all realtime. Mix of 25/40k iso at 25fps (a7s, shogun, samyang 24mm). The two on vimeo marked "javri" show most of the best display we had. One has the rapid, dancing movement (as in this 5x5), the other is a slow burner - the sky just gradually turns green. Biggest problem was with my "cheap" manfrotto head freezing so hence the jerky movement. To be replaced by a Miller Airhead (ok to -40 apparently). Sony found a niche market...

I have the original A7S plus a Shogun for the 4k. Works well (touch of Neat Video if required). Focus not really an issue as it can be fixed on a star and left (indeed with a Samyang, I could even tape it!). But as noticed, getting guests to use a Sony wouldn't be fun. Simplicity is important in this context. Seems that it'll have to be two A7Sii unless the 5d4 ships with similar performance... Miller AirHeads will function at -35 (my manfrotto freezes...) Not my cabin Jimmy, otherwise no problem! Where do you go to shoot aurora (this is north Finland). tim

Does anyone know whether any Canon can match the Sony A7S at high ISO (at least 25k)? I want to put together a couple of kits for lodge guests to film aurora in Scandinavia. The Sony is the obvious choice as it produces great results and is relatively cheap (paired with Samyang 24mm). But it isn't the best build quality, is awkward to use and lacks weather sealing etc. HD/4k isn't too important. Might one responsebe to wait to see what the 5d4 can do? Thanks, Tim

Beautiful.

Played with some footage and tried to build a story in a 5x5 sequence. Music by Eric Matyas "Arctic Sunrise" (soundimage.org)

What's the UK training programme involve? I assume a mix of theory and practice? I've thought about it but it seems expensive (no commercial flying in my case so notcompulsory).

http://www.eda-egypt.org/Default.aspx Egyptian Dental Association - likely to take a dim view of this... and will be bound to investigate. At least several more sleepless nights or possibly even suspension of his ability to practice. No violence or threats of violence. Simply a clearly stated submission of documented suspicions and the associated evidence. If ES isn't a dentist or perhaps even ES, then the alternative approaches remain available.

http://deltauniv.edu.eg/new/dentistry/?page_id=1163 Would we expect to find him on the faculty lists of the Delta University dental hospital? Should we email them to check?

@ES: Response to Inazuma (see above)? Easy to post requests for extensions (fair enough) and be grateful for Ed's agreement (fair enough) but it might also be worth addressing the other questions? Shows some willing - why not even change the info at the bottom of your posts to better reflect the current state of play?

If you're genuine, why not stay involved here (with Andrew's permission)? There's a lot to learn and one lesson might be for you to realise that you CAN contribute from your experience not merely fabrication. You live in a fascinating part of the world - potentially a useful contact! Realise that from now, trust has to be earned. Respect has to be earned. But both are worth working for. Good to see this step forward. There must be a film in this sorry episode. Creatio ex nihilo...

If, indeed, this chap holds a degree in dentistry and is practising then there is arguably an obligation for us (presumably the victims or A as owner of the site) to inform the governing body as to our suspicions. Participation in prima facie criminal activity might at least merit a suspension subject to investigation (after all, why should any legally incorporated body believe what we say here). It saddens me to say that last year an acquaintance of mine was suspended by the UK medical authorities (GMC) and she is going to have to make a real effort to get back on track. She'll do it but it won't be easy (and nor should it be). Perhaps in the longer term this is what ES needs? If, of course, the whole "I'm a dentist" thing is also a fabrication then this constitutes another potential serious offence? What do you think ES?

I'm not talented enough to offer my services unfortunately but an excellent project which merits every success. MADE is a new name to me - will investigate! Local to London only? Tim

Forgive the change of pace but I think it is unfortunate that Zach's behaviour resulted in a ban. Yes, of course, he - or, at least, his contributions - were more than occasionally bizarre but I always got the impression that he was trying his best to learn. He was obviously keen albeit that enthusiasm often manifested itself in unusual ways and it would be reasonable to assume that his ideas were not always well grounded. But he clearly got a lot out of this space and well, better he was talking to us than a myriad of less educational activities. As someone mentioned previously on this thread - filmakers are insane (a ghastly generalisation and clearly untrue but it makes a point). Personally I never felt remotely irritated by his participation (easily ignored if nothing else) - significantly less offensive than the subject of this thread. But, of course, perhaps I am Zach!

This thread and the events in Nice both, in different ways, make a depressing statement about human nature. LEF.

Can't complain about a double win! Thanks for thoughts. Time to look for a decent deal...

Hi, I currently have a BMCC and a Pocket. The Pocket I purchased quite recently and I have to admit I am taking it places where I'd never dream of carrying the 2.5k. Indeed, the BMCC invariably remains at home... I'm thinking - should I sell the BMCC and purchase another Pocket (or a Micro?) I doubt one of the UK stores would give me a lot for trade-in but if I came out of any deal with a "free" Pocket or Micro I would at least have a camera I use. The loss of Resolve wouldn't really be an issue as the free version would be sufficient. I do like playing with the raw from the Pocket but Prores and FCX are more than enough for my humble requirements. Lenses - I have a Samyang 7mm (only used on my Steadicam Solo), an SLR 12mm, Voigtlander 35mm and various Nikon zooms if required. I'd be happy to use the SLR on a second Pocket I think with the 35mm for those rare occasions I'd like a "100mm". Pocket or Micro? Thoughts? Tim

Worth sending a pm to Eric Matyas who posts here (in Shooting) on a regular basis? He makes his stuff free to use so if he did a one-off piece it must be worth supporting. (I don't know Eric so I am only speculating)

Ed, save your money for when the Trump dollar crashes.

Very enjoyable. Not sure why but it reminds me of an encounter I had with a piste (track cutting) machine whilst XC skiing in Saariselka...
